Habayit Hayehudi Drops Push to Amend Law on Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi’s Term

MK Zvulun Kalfa withdraws proposed legislation that sought to allow Rabbi Yaakov Ariel, who is 76 and is therefore over the age limit, to contend for chief rabbi, evidently due to lack of ministerial support.

Legislation to allow Rabbi Yaakov Ariel to run for chief rabbi and Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar to serve another term was dropped on Sunday, when Habayit Hayehudi withdrew the bill because it apparently lacked sufficient ministerial support.
