Former Israeli Chief Rabbi Yisrael Lau Poised to Run for Second Term

Lau, who already served in the post for a decade until 2003, needs the government to pass an amendment to the law allowing for chief rabbis to hold more than one term; if he does run he will be a strong front-runner; if he joins the race, his son will drop out.

Former Israeli Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau is poised to join the race for chief rabbi, if an amendment allowing chief rabbis to serve more than one term passes as planned, Haaretz has learned.
