22-year-old IDF Officer Dies After Mysterious Collapse

Member of the elite Maglan unit pronounced dead shortly after he suddenly collapses at IAF's Tel Nof base; IDF sources believe officer died as a result of a medical problem.

An Israel Defense Forces officer with the rank of captain collapsed and died Sunday in the Israel Air Force base of Tel Nof.

The 22-year-old officer, who served in the elite Maglan unit, is believed to have died as a result of medical complications and not due to military reasons.

The officer arrived at the base in his car on Sunday afternoon and according to soldiers' testimonies, he complained of a headache. He subsequently collapsed and was taken to the Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The IDF has launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death. Military sources said that to their knowledge the officer was not training or engaged in strenuous physical activity prior to his sudden death.
