Bennett's wife takes a Facebook swipe at Lapid
Gilat Bennett, wife of Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, accuses Finance Minister of taking credit for her husband's achievements.
Gilat Bennett, wife of Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, has taken to social media in her husband's defense, with a number of Facebook comments critical of Finance Minister Yair Lapid.
Commenting on Lapid's Facebook page, Gilat Bennett accused the finance minister of taking credit for her husband's achievements and asked which of her husband's other "amazing reforms … [does Lapid] intend taking credit for tomorrow?"
"What makes you get up in the morning and say to yourself, 'today I intend taking credit for someone else's work?'" she asked. "It's just unbelievable."
In subsequent comments, Bennett described Lapid as "a plastic shell, empty, shallow, populist and false – Lapidopedia," and wished him well with his "super-left" political opinions.
She was somewhat kinder to her husband, who she described as "efficient, smart, enterprising and courageous."
The comments were deleted soon after they appeared, but screenshots of the Facebook pages were revealed by journalist Raviv Druker on Channel 10 TV.
Bennett's bureau acknowledged on Monday that the Facebook posts were from the minister's wife, but declined to comment on them. Lapid's bureau also declined to comment.
Bennett and Lapid were regarded as close allies immediately after the 2013 elections, but relations between the two appear to have deteriorated of late.
