Sharon's coffin to lie in state in Knesset; funeral to be held Monday
Knesset to hold official memorial service Monday for late Israeli prime minister. He is to be buried in his Negev Sycamore Ranch, beside his late wife Lily.
The late Ariel Sharon's coffin will lie in state Sunday between 12:00 and 6:00 P.M. in the Knesset Plaza so that the public can pay its last respects.
Sharon's military funeral is scheduled to take place on Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Anemone Hill, where his wife Lily is buried, overlooking his home, Sycamore Ranch.
The Knesset's plenum sessions and committee meetings were postponed until after the funeral.
Members of the public wishing to pay their respects in the Knesset on Sunday should note that private vehicles will not be allowed into the compound. Special buses will ferry the public from Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem and from Latrun, starting at 11:00 A.M.
On Monday morning, before the funeral, an official laying to rest ceremony will be held at the Knesset. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, and President Shimon Peres, among others, will address the plenum.
Leaders from around the world are expected to attend Sharon's funeral, including U.S. Vice President Biden and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Czech Prime Minister Jiří Rusnok will also attend.
Former U.S. President George W. Bush, whose term in office coincided with Sharon's premiership, is not expected to attend the funeral because he is taking care of his elderly mother and former First Lady Barbara Bush.
The funeral service will be open to the public, but the Prime Minister's Office has requested those wishing to attend to arrive early, due to expected heavy traffic.
