Autumn flowers bloom in the Negev, water or not
Bulbous plants drink up water stored over the past year, and even the endangered Asian wild ass plays a role.
The flowers in the Negev are in full bloom, even though the ground is very dry after the summer, notes Ori Fragman-Sapir, head scientist at Hebrew University's Jerusalem Botanical Gardens. The species in bloom are bulbous plants that have stored water and nutrients over the past year.
