Israel to White House: Stop anti-Israel Palestinian incitement

Netanyahu adviser complains over dedication honoring female terrorist who killed dozens of Israelis.

By Barak Ravid Tags: Mahmoud Abbas Israel news

The Prime Minister's Office issued a complaint to the White House several days ago lamenting ongoing incitement against Israel by Palestinian leaders.

In the complaint, senior officials in the Prime Minister's Office urged their American counterparts to demand that Palestinians President Mahmoud Abbas cease to glorify the memory of terrorists who murdered Israelis. The complaint went on to insist that the Palestinians live alongside Israelis peacefully and spread peace.

This complaint is the first of its kind ? against Palestinian incitement ? to gain media attention in Israel, after many years during which Israel largely refrained from making official complaints, or delivered these complaints discreetly to the Palestinian president.

Until one year ago, a special committee operated in Israel under the guidelines of the Annapolis peace summit to promote peace education and prevention of incitement. The committee was disbanded when Israeli-Palestinian peace talks broke down shortly before the 2009 elections in Israel.

The complaint was drafted by the prime minister's political adviser, Ron Dermer, who complained of three specific incidents which he described as severe defiance of Israel. The first incident was a recent ceremony in Ramallah, at which Abbas inaugurated a town square named in honor of Dalal Mougrabi, a female terrorist responsible for the deaths of dozens of Israelis aboard a bus in 1978.

The second issue Dermer complained about was the fact that the Palestinian Authority failed to condemn the most recent terror attack in which Israeli settler Meir Chai was killed in a drive-by shooting in the West Bank two weeks ago by Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades operatives, the armed wing of Abbas' Fatah party. Dermer stressed that the Palestinian Authority habitually refrains from condemning attacks that occur outside the Green Line and those in which settlers are killed.

Dermer further complained that senior officials within the Palestinian Authority visited the homes of those who carried out the attack that killed Chai, who were later killed by the Israel Defense Forces, and deemed them Shahids, or martyrs. "This is glorification of killers," Dermer argued.

He also lamented a recent Fatah Website posting containing anti-Israel slogans.

Israel's plans were frozen in stone in 1250 BCE when Joshua crossed the Jordan, brought down the walls of Jericho with a trumpet blast, and invaded Canaan. It was a great victory, so why change? As it was written, so let it be done - yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Bark! Bark! Bark! Toot! Toot! Toot!

"they [the palestinians] are irretrievably divided and have no consensus position from which to negotiate." On the contrary, the PLO has a solid proposal for peace, are even willing to swap land with Israel to achieve peace. But Israel is not willing to listen. Israel's position is that she presented a peace plan years ago which essentailly says: we take, you give. No negotiations. What Palestinins are waiting for is an indication that Israel is willing to talk peace. But who can talk peace with Israel while their settlers steal more and more land? Hence the requirement that Israel freeze their settlement program. When Israel does that, then peace talks can begin. It is all up to Netanyahu's lassitudinous peace-pipe-smoking government.

Add these more recent victims to your list: The Dar yousef family (8 persons, including three children, mother and father, two grandfathers, and one great grand uncle). Khalid and Mahdi Mustafa, all of whom were killed and whose properties were seized to make possible the Israeli drive from East Jerusalem to Jericho; plus Emad and Ali (last name unknown) who lived east of Ariel, and, most of all, Aluf Albert Sternberg who revealed all of the above, who was involved in all of the above; but whose Zionist training was eventually overpowered by his humanity. May he rest in peace. Amen.

went on to insist that the Palestinians live alongside Israelis peacefully and spread peace." Israel lives alongside Palestine and provokes unpeace by supporting their settlers' seizure of Palestinian land, illegally build apartment houses in Palestinian East Jerusalem, and guarding their entire operation with armed occupation forces. And they want the USA to stop anti-Israel Palestinian incitement? Huh! Israeli politicos should stop their useless chatter and settle their own wars!

The stones that you are talking about might hurt badly and even kill. Would you like to stand in front of me and let me throw you a stone to demonstrate? Of corse not. In fact In Turkey those stone throwing Kurdish teenagers are being caught jailed and often subjet to torture even as I am writing this, every day in Mardin, Tunceli, Gaziantep etc. I have been supporting a 2 state solution as Pres Clinted had offered at Camp David, accepted by the Israeli Knesset but rejected by Arafat. The only solution is to make some compromises and live side by side in peace. However as long as on both sides there are those who would deamonizing the other side there can not be a real peace. First thing is for both parties to start understanding and respecting each oter and accept that there will be a Jweish and an Arab state sidebyside

It's about time the American government realizes that both Israel and AIPAC has been B.S.ing everyone and now it is time to say to Israel, NO MORE!!! It's about time that Americans realize that the terror infilicted on it's soldiers and citizens in the middle East is the result of America's blind support of Israel's war crimes and this has to stop as well. Good post Hank.

Many of the posters have responded to this article by criticizing Israeli settlement policies and past actions of Israeli leaders considered by some to be terrorists. I think this evades the question. The Palestinians have, justifiably, protested Israeli policies which they believe are inconsistent with the Roadmap. Glorifying individuals who commit murder against civilians (and settlers are civilians), is incitement and is a violation of the Roadmap. The Israelis have every right to protest such incitement. In addition, I do feel that making complaints to the United States and other members of the Quartet which are overseeing the Roadmap is a far preferable course of action to killing each other. Perhaps, if they get into the habit of talking out their problems, they might actually start to negotiate toward a solution.

The goal in Israel is to spin away the facts of their long term expansion project and, somehow, make Israel out to be perpetual victims. This routine does not play well anymore, and resorting to it actually can have a definite backlash affect. Israel is a modern superpower with a nuclear arsenal and a huge air force. The Palestinians have almost nothing and haven't managed to kill an Israeli in quite some time. If Israel was really interested in peace, they would not be continuing to expand beyond their borders. It is Americas job to curb their dog, who they have allowed to become the terror of the neighborhood.

Israel has been remiss in allowing incidents of official incitement to go without complaint. Stopping incitement, after all, was a Phase I condition of Roadmap, a condition that has never been met as Palestinian institutions continued to whip up hatred.

This sounds extremely unserious. Israel talks about a settler who was killed. Whose land was the settler on? Which Palestinian lost his land, so he could live there? I am not saying the man was an evil man, but this is ridiculous. Palestinians are allowed under international law to fight occupiers just as Polish Jews and Catholics were entitled to fight the Germans. This is so ridiculous. Israel has no moral standing as an occupying power to complain about incitement. It's the same country that destroyed over 5,000 Gazan homes, has troops that execute unarmed Palestinians etc.. As far as the guy who said that Palestinian American committed terrorism in the U.S., that's not factual since he killed soldier, but he was a traitor. He committed treason, not terrorism. There is a difference.

I don't like Arafat. But I think Sadat is alright. See? Israel needs to have a sitdown and make some agreements on what is appropriate or not appropriate for both sides. It's not Obama's problem.

... I wonder how the Obama administration will respond to this request. They refuse to call the Ft. Hood attack, terrorism. They spend days pussy footing about the Christmas day attempt. With Iran building Nukes, North Korea thumbing it's nose, Russia and China flexing their muscles, Abbas won't return to the table and the BOA is dismayed at Israeli building in Jerusalem and already built settlements. Palestinian incitement is as beyond Political correctness as there is. What will the BOA do? Probably be "dismayed" at something Israel does.

...........how is it possible for any type of a peace to take hold when the Palestinians are "marketed" hatred and unrealistic expectations constantly. The Paliwood industrial complex of death and destruction only harms the Palestinians. I do not know what event Netenyahu attended that the posters above are referencing. However, the Palestinian violent and hate media and mosques are Relentless. (Oh yeah, watch that movie). Israel can be accused of many things, I don't agree with the vast majority but I acknowledge that I am very partisan Zionist. I know that there ae other viewpoints. But, I never have seen the type of systematic hate mongering that the Palestinian and Arab media and mosques overwhelm their citizens with. It is off the charts and a much bigger detriment to peace than some new apartments in Jerusalem or the existing settlements in the West Bank. Hate, especially a campaign of unrelenting and sophosticated hate, is a very strong weapon....

    ATTACK ON KING DAVID
    • JONATHAN GRANT
    • 08.01.10
    • 02:33

First, the King David was the headquarters of, and only filled with, the British Military, which was arming the Arabs. Second, Menachem Begin and the Stern gang phoned the hotel & the Military, warning that there was going to be an explosion in the Hotel, and to evacuate the hotel. The snotty British Officer replied, "We don't take orders from Jews." As to the comment about Sharon, he never intentionally killed civilians; however, the gutless Arab terrorists often place their military forces in civilian areas. The Arabs, by contrast, intentionally target civilians in Israel. Now, do all of you anti-Semites and self hating Jews get it?

The Palestinians endlessly bleat that an Israeli settlement freeze is required under the 2003 Road Map. Under the Road Map, the Pals "at the outset of Phase 1" must first comply with the following: "All official Palestinian institutions end incitement against Israel." Hasn't happened. The reality is that the Pals are making excuses to avoid recommencing negotiations because they are irretrievably divided and have no consensus position from which to negotiate.

The PM's office was offering what should be a commonplace observation to civilized people that intentionally killing civilians is murder and you don't glorify people who do it. You don't name squares after them. You don't call them martyrs. In fact, the respect for individuals and for peoples that makes (or should make) this commonplace is essential for a two state solution to work. Yet the Israel bashers find this unusual, outrageous and hypocritical. They are ok with the PA celebrating communal violence: that's when anyone from my tribe is praised for killing anyone in your tribe. PA praise for Dalal Mougrabi is the moral equivalent of Serb praise for the perpetrators of the massacre at Srebenecia in Bosnia. The numbers don't matter, it's the thought that counts, and the thought is: "Our side got lots of their folk and put them in the ground and G-d be praised for it". It's horrible and degenerate, and it stands in the way of a two state solution.
