Israel to release 30 Palestinian prisoners from Gaza on Tuesday
Israel frees 57 Palestinian prisoners from the West Bank in bid to boost Abbas; none of prisoners are from Hamas.
By News Agencies and Jonathan Lis Haaretz Service Tags: Mahmoud Abbas FatahIsrael will release 30 Palestinian prisoners who reside in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, one day after the release of 57 prisoners from the West Bank.
The Israel Prisons Service freed the 57 West Bank residents from the Ketziot prison in the Negev late Monday morning, as part of an effort to bolster the government of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Another 30 prisoners from the Gaza Strip were expected to be freed Monday as well, but their release was delayed due to procedural and legal questions.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said the prisoners from Gaza would be released on Tuesday. A statement said President Shimon Peres signed all of the Gaza pardons.
Security officials said IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi had sent Peres a letter expressing reservation about the prisoner release, saying it was immoral to free prisoners to Gaza while militants there continue to hold abducted IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Ashkenazi did, however, give the necessary approval to the release despite his reservations.
Peres, as president, has to authorize sentence commutations, and did not sign off until late in the day. Peres spokesman Yoram Dori refused to comment on the defense officials' report or discuss the delay.
Peres' signature was not required for the release of West Bank-based prisoners because the area is under the authority of the Israel Defense Forces and the men were freed in accordance with an order signed by an IDF general.
The 87 prisoners are mostly members of Fatah, along with several who are members of smaller Palestinian factions. None belong to Hamas.
Israel holds around 11,000 Palestinian prisoners, and their release has long been a central Palestinian demand.
Meanwhile, IDF troops shot and injured a Palestinian teen who was waiting with hundreds of Palestinians at a Gaza Strip crossing for their relatives to be released, medics and witnesses said. The boy, 14, was moderately injured, the medics said. The IDF troops began firing from watchtowers at the Erez crossing when the Palestinians began approaching a no-man's zone separating Gaza from Israel, the witnesses said.
The army said troops opened fire at Palestinians who approached army positions at Erez and ignored warning shots. The soldiers aimed for their legs to avoid fatal injuries, the military said
Waiting in GazaAfter their release on Monday, the freed prisoners arrived at the army's Beituniya checkpoint, near the West Bank city of Ramallah, after a two-hour journey from Ketziot. The prisoners got off Israeli buses and kissed the ground before boarding a Palestinian bus. An ecstatic crowd of waiting relatives clapped and waved Palestinian flags.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced the prisoner release, the second since July, last month as part of his strategy to support Abbas in his power struggle with Hamas. While many of those released Monday were serving time for militant activity, none was convicted of killing or injuring Israelis.
In Gaza City, a group of Palestinians with relatives in Israeli prisons gathered at the Red Cross offices, holding photographs of their imprisoned loved ones. One mother, Fatima Kaisi, said her 24-year-old son Mohammed is serving a 250-year sentence for his involvement in the radical militant group Islamic Jihad.
"I'm happy for the mothers who are getting their sons back today, but the leaders have to know that there are hundreds of mothers and families still waiting to meet with their loved ones," Kaisi said.

..the next part...you got to the reason why the Arabs didn't accept the partition, and then stopped. I've got the maps printed out in colour, no less... Did you know that during the invasion of Normandy on D-Day one complete lot of those amphibious landing crafts dropped off the Americans on the wrong beach?? I bet when Germans read about that, years later, they wondered how on earth we managed to win...
It's way past time to start looking at and studying them. If were planning the invasion of Europe in WW2, the Allies would still be in their home countries sleeping..
Ottoman Palestine, before and after WW1 Here are the maps under discussion... Please hold onto them.. http://www.masada2000.org/bmand.gif http://www.masada2000.org/transj.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Israel Because if so I just got them from another thread and copied and pasted them to a document..I wrote a post telling you which of these I'd seen, but I don't know what thread it was in...I read about this: May 15, 1947 UN partition plan, which I asked you about, why didn't they accept it, and you explained why...thought they'd have the entire lot...didn't get any state as a result
I gave you a map link, did you ever look at it?? If not, why not??
these "scum of their flat earth". They will go back to their old job. And what is that? i think you know the answer, they will shout " Akbar allah hu he! he! he! kills some more! MOomooh likes it.
.....in reply to your question as to whether I have any work to do... not that I'd call it work, it's more like a pleasure - watching the pro-Palestinian posters get the better of you every single time!
"You still haven`t answered the question" What question was that?
They'll be issued guns and explosives again... Captured or killed in the next go-around... They're fully rested and eager to return to what they know best...If you were to look at their hands, you would be hard pressed to find a callous...
Your use of the word "Junta" is totally out of place and shows ignorance...All you had to do was see what it meant...Same holds true for "Apartheidic", it doesn't exist.... Now, as for the rest of your letter, shame of those women and children tht committed crimes that caused them to be imprisoned... junta Definition junta (hn′tə, jun′tə, jn′tə) noun an assembly or council; esp., a Spanish or Latin American legislative or administrative body a group of political intriguers; esp., such a group, of military men in power after a coup d'état
I've already replied...This is redundant..
Never claimed they were all terrorists...Just a cross section of society...Includes pickpockets, car thieves, robbers, prostitutes, terrorist's and the usual denizens of jails world wide..Also, juvenille delinquents.. You still haven't answered the question..
Israel strip yourself of all your defenses so that you will be easily defeated and driven into the sea. There you go. Said in a few words.
He's been visiting those anti Israel idiot pages again. You can see his grubby fingerprints all over them. He has no idea how to choose the grains of truth from among the lies or to understand what is really happening. For him this is all a sideshow chosen because of his Irish and German antiSemitic background to fill his empty life. The best thing for him is for his bosses to find out that he's spent all his time on a newspaper forum and to kick him out so that he does some productive work at the pub in future.
There were no Palestinians. We didn't choose them. They happened along recently
You don't say where you live or where you get your 'knowledge' from. Is it your opinion that Israel deliberately wants to feed shelter and do dental work for all the Arabs in the area? Is that why they're picked up and held in prison? Can't your brain encompass the fact that there might be arab criminals? The jails in Arab countries are not empty though they do practise the death penalty quite liberally and they empty their jails that way. I suppose it's a thought. But Israel doesn't do things like that.
Was released, promised to go and sin no more and went on to plan and be complicit in the murders of hundreds and the wounding of thousands of Israelis. He was executed to prevent further Israeli deaths and what was the sentimental reaction of talkbackers? 'poor old blind crippled man'. Whereas the truth was that he was a multiple murderer: half blind and in a wheelchair, true. But without my specs I'm half blind too and I don't use that as an excuse to kill people. Reaching the age of 68? is that a reason to forgive his murders? Perhaps it's the sports accident in his youth that gave him permission to kill. It's not clear.
Israël gave back Gaza, with an infrastructure for cultivating the earth, see the chaos now and the quassams everyday, recognition from the arabs state only more mess
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE ADVANTAGE FOR ISREAL TO RELEASE PALS. PRISONERS ONLY TO HAVE THEM STRAP ON BOMBS AND GO BLOW THEMSELVES AND ISREAL CILVILANS UP. WHERES THE LOGIC?I THOUGHT IT WAS A QUICK PRO QO I DO FOR YOU AND YOU DO FOR ME. WHAT DOES ISREAL GET OUT OF THIS DEAL? CAN ANYONE ANSEWER ME THIS QUESTION? I'LL BE WAITING FOR SOME RESPONSE.
one of the subjects abbas studiously avoids are the arab terrorists in israels jails ? can you explain that ? even arafat avoided it ?
"For a beginning, stop building settlements" Where?in lands that are historically Jewish? "Dismantle settlements and lift the seige on Gaza" What seige? They can get everything through Egypt-even freshly trained terrorists.... "Return the Golan Heights to Syria" Syria had the Golan and used it to launch artillery against Israel. Can you guarrantee that such thing will not be repeated? "and Shaba Farms to Lebanon" Lebanon says they're Syrian and Syria says they're Lebanese. Can you provide a solution to this dispute? "Gain recognition from the Arab countries in return" Is that you the person who will decide this?
one of the remarkable things in life is that the less people know the more crap they spout !! arab terror has a 90 year history so how do explain your post is not twaddle ??/
As far as is known,Shalit,Regev and Goldwasser are not visited by the Red Cross. We don't even know whether they are alive. Any comment on this,Mr.Lab-rat? And the fact that there are entries in the internet about "Palestinians tortured in Israelis jails" does not mean much. They may well have been made by Palestinian sources.
"Just what are you saying, that all 11,000 must be freed before Shalit is let go???" Not at all. I am reminding you or anyone else of the enormous amount of Palestinians in jail in Israel.
Israel currently has 11,000 Palestinians in her jails. Surely you don't expect anyone to believe that they are all terrorists??
Probably because they've got so many prisoners, 11,000, in relation to the size of the country's population, 6 million.
The Israeli government released these Palestinians. Not me. I am praising Israel for being fair, and you don't like it. Incredible. I've told you before...please don't give me this "terrorists in CT" line...I've lived through the IRA bombing campaign in London, seen buildings destroyed, cars bombed, streets and shops evacuated, for many years. So I know all about domestic terrorism. Unlike many who post here, I've lived through it. And it was bad. So I don't need any flippant "CT terrorists" lines..they aren't frightening when you've lived through domestic terrorism.
Try lifting the occupation and returning to the Green line before preaching against terror.
Hello Labhras...nice to see you too, several of us have given up and left, I think! Johnboy for one... There are over 11,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails now. Does Israel honestly think that we are going to believe that all of these are terrorists? The answer: yes! because they do...
Now you don't even like it when I praise something that Israel has done! Israel's government released these Palestinians. They must have thought they were not terrorists.
Isn't Shalit an IDF member? You are surely not expecting anyone to believe that all of the 11,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails as of this moment are all terrorists??
Israel has 11,000 Palestinians currently in its prisons. Not all of them are terrorists and suicide bombers, as Israel claims.
"how many Israelis have the Arabs tried to kill" Again, Peter, "tried" is the important word here. Just look at the Palestinian death rate; several each week these days.
Every single picture from the press of prisoners that have been released show them all to be in pretty good health. I can just imagine the treatment of jewish prisoners held captive where the red cross is not even allowed to see them. Ya the arabs have some humanity
As it happens, my bachelor's degree is in English Literature, and I am a published author (McGraw Hill). That having been said, to my knowledge there was no adjective relating to apartheid until he created one (your void).
among the most closely scrutinized in the world. One reason is the govt. has allowed representatives of the red cross and other groups to inspect them regularly.
Ravi, you state: At this rate how many years will it take to release 11000, plus the new additions? Sorry to disappoint you Ravi, but I?ve got bad news for you. Many of your Palestinian friends in prison will never be released as many have blood on their hands. As a matter of fact, don?t be surprised if this figure gets greater and greater if your friends continue to commit crimes of every sort.
Let me answer your question. For a beginning, stop building settlements. Dismantle settlements and lift the seige on Gaza. Return the Golan Heights to Syria and Shaba Farms to Lebanon. Gain recognition from the Arab countries in return and make peace.
Good that leaves about 9970.
Just what are you saying, that all 11,000 must be freed before Shalit is let go???
Israel has released quite a few in the past 2 days...I'll give it a "Well Done" when they free Shalit, who is only one man...Untill then, more have been freed than should have been.
You might like this idea of letting terrorists run loose...but I for one do not. On the lighter side maybe they will make their way to CT where you reside and then I would like to know your opinion after they attack the citizens of CT. I think you will be humming a different tune.
how ridiculous.I am happy for those few Palestinians.but does Israel really think they can fool EVERYBODY, releasing just a few Palestinians in order to use them as sort of candy? They can kidnap them (as everybody else) anytime they want again. www.youtube.com/luxcretia2
Steve in hi post stated that Israel is violating international Law--ChannahS asked - what international law?" Fourth Geneva Convention Article 49.Forbids the mass transfer of it,s Occupier,s citizens to the "Occupied Territory.Regardless of who won the war or started it.That is what Law.
For those who might be misled by ChannahS who is not to be trusted. TEL AVIV - Palestinians detained by Israeli security forces are routinely tortured and ill-treated, according to a new report published by Israeli human rights groups yesterday. The ill-treatment, which includes beatings, sensory deprivation, back-bending, back-stretching and other forms of physical abuse, contravenes international law and Israeli law, the report says. The Centre for the Defence of the Individual and B?Tselem, an Israeli human rights group, compiled the report after interviewing 73 Palestinians who had been arrested in 2005 and 2006. The report found that almost 50% of detainees who were arrested in raids or at random were beaten by the army or police before they were handed over to the Shin Bet security agency for interrogation. The prisoners were interrogated for an average of 35 days and spent most of their time in tiny cells in solitary confinement. They were interrogated from five to 10 hours a day. More than half did not see a lawyer or representative of the Red Cross for the whole period of interrogation. The report found that prisoners were effectively starved by being offered food designed to appear rotten or unappetising. Their only exercise was the walk from the cell to the interrogation room during which they were shackled, handcuffed and blindfolded. In some cases more extreme treatment was used. One in five detainees were deprived of sleep for up to three days and a quarter were beaten by their interrogators. Out of more than 500 complaints against Shin Bet since 2001, not a single one has been upheld. Israel?s justice ministry said Shin Bet interrogations were carried out in accordance with the law, although it declined to comment on the ?interrogation techniques? detailed in the report. In 1999, the supreme court banned the torture of suspects but left several loopholes which allowed it to continue.
gentlemen wars of the nineteenth century.fight and rest for two weeks.listen gabi ashkenazi if you cant do the job let us get someone who can. we do not want an invasion but we want smart beatings administered to the gazans.continuously and at a fast tempo.
when did you march for peace. Why would you give up on it.Are you not a seeker of peace.
the gazans over the last few days.why is israel letting them gather strength? you have to hit them in a sustainable fashion. day and night.air strikes and special forces.
PALESTINIAN PRISONERS when Shalit is still a Captive. Tell this to Prime Minister Olmert who should not be sitting in the PM's Chair.....and to President Peres who should be home with his Grand-children around him.
Hi Silvienne, very glad to see you are still here. I agree that credit should be given where it is due,but I hate to be cynical, but Israel will arrest 30 more to replace those/ if indeed not the 30 within the next few days. They will be just reported as new arrests.5 here/6 there etc.To satisfy your self, keep an eye on mid east news media.A simple google will do it. It is all a game. A revovling door behind which are the spin doctors, churning out lies, for the unsuspecting.Since the last 250 were released the number of prisoners has gone up by 500. Again glad you are still on board. Regards
Shalit is a normal person. The pals keep in Israeli jails are terrorists. Others were already released and are being caught when they were about to commit terrorist attacks. There is another important difference. Those pals are prisoners. Shalit was kidnapped. Terrorists who attack other people and the security forces who defend the attacked are not equal.
What is the point of the release. If someone has committed a crime;it doesn't matter if they are Hamas or Fatah. They both hate Israel.
Not one of these rats should be released,if Shallit remains a prisoner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S THE EQUIVALENT OF A SURRENDER!!!!!!!!!
haaretz why dont you publish the names and records of these criminals !
So you will protest when those people are caught again or killed when they are about to commit more attacks. You are cheering at terrorists who will go back to their job.
This is outrageous; a pal terrorist can hug his father, whereas Shalit cannot hug his. I can only imagine how Shalit?s parents can feel.
Margie wrote---"As far as is known the prisoners get good medical attention and they are all visited by the Red Cross which would have much to say if they weren`t being cared for." You are right Margie. As far as is known. They certainly have not taken you too far on the road to the truth. As usual Margie,s Israel is perfect and can do no wrong. If you have the intellectual courage, google "Palestinians tortured in Israelis jails".You might have your eyes opened, but you do not have the guts do you.It would make your "Raison Detre" a lie.
Gee thanx Uncle Olmert! Thanx for the wonderful holiday gift! YOU are some great leader (NOT). If we elected a blind chimpanzee he could do a better job.
Israel need not make any concessions at all to Mahmoud Abbas concerning prisoner releases. No Palestinian prisoner, whether from Hamas or Fatah - is there a difference? - should be released until ALL our three IDF soldiers are released from Gaza and Lebanon in good health, and ALL Kassam rockets are no longer fired from Gaza. Full stop. Once again Ehud Olmert is making a wrong decision which is not understood by the Palestinians as a 'goodwill gesture' but rather another indication of the weakness and resolve of the present Israeli government. We are in a terrible crises situation and Israel desparately needs NOW new experienced leadership to see us through the next few years and beyond. Can you imagine the present government trying to deal with a multi-front war situation which very well might include Iran, and sooner than later. I hope that our submarines are primed with 'you know what' and lurking deep below the waves in any other sea than the Mediterranean. We may need them.
How many this, and how many that... Clickfool asks how may Palestinians have been arrested in the last two weeks. I'm afraid the Jewish people is going to be disappointed once again. The problem is to huge and to complex for this token of good will to have much impact.
One tning I can say to you silly little man is that as far as South Africa is concerned I know a whole lot more than you about every single aspect of that country - during its apartheid days and thereafter. You think you are very smart, but the fact is that I have no reason to be ashamed of being a SOuth African. I love that country as much as I love Israel. The apartheid system was a terribly sinister and evil one, but the country is beautiful. You have no idea what either South Africa or Israel is all about, but you regard yourself qualified to make banal and silly remarks about both. You're an ignorant fool and most pathetic because you don't even realise it.
1) There are more than 10.000 detainees illegally arrested by Israel - Illegally? on what do you base your claim?. 2) facing death due to medical negligence - How do you know this? Can you prove it? 3) All the Palestinians who dies in Israel prisons (where are your numbers from) died of torture, abuse and medical negligence? _ can you show proof? 4) Israel is violating international law - what international law? 5) Occupation is a war crime - Who said? Do you also think an unprovolked attack on a country is a war crime? Or is that okay if it's Israel being attacked?
Actually most of the Palestinians migrated into what is now Israel to seek work when the Jewish pioneers started building the country.
Been there, done that.
I can't even imagine how horrible the Shalit family must feel with all these prisoners being released while their son rots in jail. This country makes me sick. And we're supposed to send our sons and daughters to the army. If they god forbid are taken hostage, Israel will do nothing. Sickening and immoral.
At college I wrote a comprehensive paper on neologisms in the English language (BE and AE)so I know all about them. Usually they are created to fill a void in the language, not to replace already existing words.(;
It is only about 0,5 % of the Arab prisoners detained in Israel. Why make such a fuss about a token gesture ?
Silvienne, Look at clickfools question in #3 . That's where to begin to see if Israel is just playing with numbers and this is just a wash. It often is. Dutch
Ravi please, what is a JUST peace for you , how would you do????
If we release dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of palestinian prisoners then surely we will get another message from Shalit and who knows maybe they will use their goodwill to ask hezbollah to give us some sign on Goldwasser and Regev. Appeals to the heart always works, especially with Arabs.
in the last two weeks with daily missile bombardments? Aren't they just a bunch of peace loving innocents?
This is why most of the Arabs are in jail. The Haifa Magistrate's Court on Friday extended the remand of a father and son, aged 37 and 16, arrested late Thursday night on suspicion of murdering Khaled Ranaim, 27. The incident in question occurred Thursday evening when two masked men entered a cafe in Fureidis owned by Ranaim and opened fire, wounding Ranaim and a customer. Police suspect the shooting was part of an ongoing feud between criminal elements in the city. https://www.haaretz.co.il/hasen/spages/908008.html
So you must have received your information 2nd hand. Where do you get the information that 10 000 detainees were illegally arrested. Have you investigated each case? As far as is known the prisoners get good medical attention and they are all visited by the Red Cross which would have much to say if they weren't being cared for. On the other hand Israeli prisoners in the hands of our neighbours and enemies have no such privilege of being visited by health professionals or by the Red Cross, contrary to the Geneva Convention. In the one broadcast permitted him Gilad Shalit told us that he is very ill and needs hospitalisation urgently. It's clear that his health is being grievously neglected. I do hope that your concern includes both sides and that you will do your best for the freedom of Gilad Shalit, Ron Arad (30 years imprisoned without Red Cross or letters home) Regev, Goldwasser and the prisoners of the Syrians: all had none of the privileges enjoyed by the Pal prisoners.
it seems like, the israelis did a good job in taking care of them in prison,he looks well-fed and healthy.I wonder, how's shalit gilad doing so far.hopefully,he's well.
Shalit's prison.
Shalit is one person. Israel has 11,000 Palestinians in prison in Israel.
I've read there are 11,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israel. At least now there are 30 less. Well done Israel for freeing these at least.
Will Israelis look this well ? Who cares amongst the leftwing self annointed humanitarian conscience of the world? Do they care about anybody anywhere other than Palestinians?
criminals of the world.these women and children are not innocent-they're suicide bombers[who needed money to support their families]money, money, blinded them.
in the last 2 weeks.the british had been arrested were not suicide bombers.but in israel,a lot of suicide bombers, destroyed.what do you want israel to do?what do you want british to do with their criminals?to you palestinian terrorists are not murderers.
Channah wrote--"There is o such word in English as apartheidic" Come on Channah, as Margie is not here, you can enlighten us.After all you would know. What did you call it when you were in South Africa as part of that Apartheid System.
Israel wouldnt have to feed them and couldn?t be extorted over them.
There are more than 10.000 detainees illegally arrested by Israel, among them hundreds of women, children, and sick detainees who are facing death due to medical negligence, all detainees should be freed. Nearly 200 Palestinians died in Israeli prisons since 1967, they died of torture, abuse and medical negligence. And there are more than 500 underage detainees imprisoned by Israel. Israel is violating the international law, occupation is a war crime, peace and occupation cannot go together.
Here we go again....just like a boom a rang...they will be back causing havoc and G-d forbid much worse. In case Olmert does not know it...peace is a two way parternship..one side does not continually give and the othe side continually take. Olmert..where is Gilad Shalit? Where is your strength? Where is your capability to make a rational decision or has the sickness of the left that inflicts your wife and family spread to you? Have you forgotten Mr.Goldwasser and Mr. Regev? What in the world are you doing?
ravi couldn't care less about health problems and in fact any other problems in his own country, because he is busy on a larger scale:taking care of his Moslem brothers all over the world
to Tina #31. Palestinians didnt choose them as a neighbours. Israelis did.
WHERE IS SHALIT
Why not get out on the streets of Israel and march for peace.Your present methods do not seem to work.
and where is shalit?
One of the nice things about English (at least American English) is that we have no academy to define our language, and everyone is free to make up neologisms. If they are accepted, they become the new English.
It would be very hard to disagree with that sentiment. What you don't mention, though, is that there is no way of knowing how many of the prisoners actually are terrorists. If they had been tried in a court of law land found guilty, it would be one thing. As it is, they are picked up off the streets with no charges and held with no trial.
Israel wouldnt have to feed them and couldn?t be extorted over them.
Israel needs to learn from the Lebanese how to deal with them
Thank you Tina - I'm sorry too that we have to spend so mmuch time and energy protecting ourselves from a sea of haters and sabre-rattling nations.
Or be sent to heavens. What are you celebrating? Is your cell also being released?
My opinion is that they shouldnt be jailed again.
The Israeli government is releasing terrorists while they are keeping Shalit who knows where and in which condition.
Israel cannot believe they will be good from now on. I think this move is wrong.
especially when dealing with a people who see appeasement as a sign of weakness and not Strength. Consequently, instead of appreciating these gestures, some Palestinian may look upon it in a different light and demand even more! It will be then that these goodwill deeds may well turn out to be a calculated risk and an unwarranted and dangerous gamble..
Olmert seems to have fogotten about them with 'Peace, Palestinians and Four Convictions' on his mind. He has a lot to think about these days in addition to clinging to his Post as Prime Minister for dear life! Another such as he would have resigned or been pushed out of government a long while ago. The only credit Olmert can claim today is that he has managed to stay PM despite it all.
the number of dead Palistinian militants was way, way up. Perhaps that is the best way for Israel to deal with the situation? Why capture, feed and contain prisoners when killing them outright is far less expensive. They do not differentiate between killing soldiers and civilians when they fire Kassams, so they are obviously war criminals and deserve to be executed.
I mean even tht miniscule amount they have is totaly removed
you got that right ravi. thanks for your advice now may i give you some in return.200 million indians do not have clean drinking water.what are you doing about it?
Referring to Israel as being "apartheidic" is like referring to Gaza as being a peace loving entity. There is no racial segregation in Israel. The truth is that Muslims in Israel have more rights than Muslims have in other Middle Eastern countries.
"They should have never been imprisonned in the first place" Are you suggesting that they should have been executed on the spot?
this is the first time i have heard a refrence to israels neigbours by an israeli supporter/israeli. look around you israel, youre in the middle of a not so congenial neigbourhood.... wisdom demands that you calm the situation, and create a just peace as fast as possible.... and dont be greedy. this will not be an act of weakness, but wisdom. outnumbered 50 to 1, your only friend slipping fast, arrogance has become israels biggest weakness
how many will be back in Israeli jails ?
Dear Prime Minister. Free more terrorists so you can make more space for all those Jewish heroes you will need to jail in the future. Oh yes. How about handing out medals of Valor and Meritorious Service to your constituency of draft dodgers and emigrants. Your Sons included!
To bolster the government of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas? By releasing terrorists? Sorry, but I don't see the connection. These men engaged in terrorism on behalf of the PA, on behalf of Abbas. What is the meaning of freeing them but to say that Israel does not see fatah terrorists as doing anything wrong. And of course, if you're a terrorist from the right palestinian faction you stand a very good chance of being freed without serving your jail term. Of course, hamas terrorists who do the same thing are terrible, right? Can't Israel find some other gesture except to release terrorists? If terrorism and terrorists are the defining symbol of the PA then what good is it?
Fully rested, fed & housed at Israeli Government expense, they're ready, willing and fully able and quite to embark on their next round of terror attacks...R&R and back to basics. R&R = Rest & Relaxation
you give them the hand and they want your arm, for those people it never going to be enough, they want free electricity free food the are totally dependants, and ignorant i am sorry for Israël to have such neighbourgh
You could read the Guardian with them and go on boycott marches or stand outside M&S in Manchester protesting about the Israeli occupation........
Aaron is apparently more concerned about the safety of Israelis than the Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert. Prime Minister Olmert is well-protected, and probably does not go into Tel Aviv niteclubs. As for both of Olmert's sons, they do not even live in Israel.
I think Talkbackers are a little too eager in their desire to punish any Palestinians that cross their path. None of the prisoners being released are guilty of murder. Those ones are still inside, and rightly so. Please check your facts.
And Shalit? What about him? He is a prisoner of our schmiegege politicians and Chmolmert.
Quite a demand comming from a supporter of terrorists who can't even release a single lone Israeli who was in fact abducted in an act of war.
Considering the condition of prisoners in Indian jails, the fact that many are there for years without any charges, the fact that in your country there are 25,000 children dying daily due to your caste system, the indiscriminate slaughter of Muslims, etc, aren't you ashamed to show your face here day after day with your ridiculous and highly uneducated and unintelligent coments?
There is o such word in English as apartheidic. You also do not know the meaning of junta and know nothing about Israel. All in all you're one ignorant person.
in india's prison system.we have 11000.well?
ravi it depends how long it takes them to stop the terrorism.
ravi as you well know innocent indians when charged spend from three to 15 years in prison WITHOUT BEING CHARGED simply because your law courts are so decrepit.ravi fix that and then you would be welcome to comment.
I just can not stop thinking this is a set up to end this once and for all. Waiting for an excuse maybe?
evicting Jews from their G-d given Land. The Promised Land. The Holy Land.
THE SAKE OF PEACE. The government of is Israel is insane.
As soon as they arrive home they will receive instruction to carry out the next attack on Jewish citizens. Whose life will be lost due to this gesture of Israeli government I can't help wondering.
so tim tell us that amodern thriving country growing by leaps and bounds wants constant attrition ? like so many of the brain dead who post here you look in the wrong directions for progress ! let us see the muslim world reach lets say the 15th century at least !
Israeli's really want Palestinians to have that Slave mentality..you know, where you show appreciation to your master for pausing in his abuse of you.
Let the apartheidic junta release all Palestinian children and women. Hundreds and hundreds are in jails for months and even years. Shame on apartheidic israel.
Hundreds and hundreds of Palestinians are kidnapped and illegally detained at checkpoints on a daily basis for no reasons. This move from Israel is sick and wicked aimed at scoring a mediatic coup. SICK!
How many Kassam rockets have been fired in last 2 weeks? How many times have arabs launched mortars towards the check points they complain are allways closed because of these mortars for last 2 weeks? to gain PR How many shotings have taken place at Israelis for last 2 weeks? How many Israelis injured from younr Arabs throwing rocks at Israelis in last 2 weeks?] How many, how many? You rationalization is that os a piss ant. I personaly along with most the world do not care about your feelings of these arrests as long as they are criminal arrests. What have the GAza and West bank refugies from Jordan and Egypt done for Israel? What have they done for themselves? Nothing there simple minded beggers. So bugger off Clickfool your and Arab you are not English. Although, you dream you are.
at this rate how many years will it take to release 11000, plus the new additions? 3 idf men are captured by the palestinians... it becomes a major crime. israels treatment of palestinians as less than human will eventually pull the rug from under israels feet
Israel releases prisoners, removes checkpoints, evacuates settlements etc., all in the name of making gestures for peace. They are greeted in return by the Arab League denying that Israel has done anything for peace and is not interested in seeking peace. At this point, I have seen nothing from the Arab side to indicate that they even acknowledge the steps Israel is making. Make the prisoners a reward for concrete steps on the Arab side. No more unreciprocated concessions.
Click Fool (being the fool) got it wrong again. As long as there is even one Palestinian planning a terror attack that is free there is one space for that terrorist either in a prison or the grave. As far as I am concerned as long as there is one Palestinian terrorist free, that is one too many.May all Arab terrorist be killed or imprisoned forever! Amen!
First I must correct the article because it refers to Abbas' government of "moderates". What is "moderate" about his government? That they are willing to receive money and land from everyone with out giving or doing anything? I prefer to Hamas for at least you know where you stand with them (hint:does not smell good). Secondly, Already about 200 additional Jews and Arabs have been killed by Palestinian Arab freed from Israeli prisons. Does Olmert and Peres want 200 more dead innocents because of these freed terrorist roaming free? Do not make this very big mistake AGAIN!. Thank you!
Release the most evil, violent arabs, who would, given half a chance, gladly eliminate every Jew in Eretz Yisrael, and at the same time arrest young Jewish boys and girls who desire nothing more than building and settling their sacred Land.
..Israel should keep track of them and if any is found to participate in some attack against Israeli citizens,he should be condemned to death.Or,if the attack is a suicide one,his family should be arrested and condemned to death. And this should be clearly explained to them before they are released....
