Israel relieved as Goldstone Report scantly mentioned at UN
Ahmadinejad's controversial antics have deflected attention away from Israel at UN General Assembly.
By Natasha Mozgovaya Tags: Goldstone report Iran UN Israel newsFollowing the release last week of the Goldstone commission findings which accused Israel of committing war crimes during its offensive in the Gaza Strip, diplomatic officials feared that the report would weigh heavily on the agenda of this week's United Nations General Assembly meeting.
Israel's fears proved to have no basis in fact as the report was cited by just a few world leaders.
The country that has thus far attracted the most attention is Iran. After accusing Israel of committing war crimes against the Palestinians, Iran itself was the object of criticism. Argentina President Cristina Fernandez blasted Iran for its involvement in the bloody terrorist attacks in Buenos Aires in 1992 and 1994.
On March 17, 1992, a suicide truck bomber rammed his vehicle into the Israeli embassy in the Argentine capital, killing 29 people and wounding 242. Two years later, terrorists struck the AMIA building, a Jewish community center, in the deadliest bombing in the country's history. Eighty-five people were killed and hundreds were wounded.
France also took a forceful stand against Iran. "If the Iranians do not accede to the demands of the international community this will be a critical mistake," French President Nicolas Sarkozy told the UN Security Council.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown told the Security Council that the world should consider "far tougher sanctions" against Iran if its continues to seek a nuclear bomb.
"As evidence of its breach of international agreements grows, we must now consider far tougher sanctions together," Brown said.

Well, that the politicians ignored the issues that Goldstone highlighted is not a surprise. They also ignored the reports about South Africa too. The ignoring of the issues by politicians did nothing to stop the people of the world from raising the issue, in fact, it drove them to take action when their politicians failed.
Israel has been around a verrrrrrry long time, indeed she has. What has changed by God's direction are those who inhabit the Holy Land; a very large/important distinction Israelis fail to recognize. God has emptied out that land periodically at any time the wickedness of its inhabitants 'extends to the heavens'. When will that be? Who know, but bets are we are pretty close if the Bible can be believed.
NOT to work with, talk to, explain, blah, blah their side of the story. The fact they chose their usual route strongly suggests to the international community that Goldstone accurately portrayed Israel's side of the story. Pity for you that Mr. Goldstone is a muckity muck at your Hebrew University, is Jewish and a Zionist and he called you on what you did. That he is 'biased' is patently ridiculous and you guys know it. You have failed to justify the occupation and the failure of justification is why the international community demands you guys give the Palestinians their land. 40+ years is enough. Pity that you guys suffered the Holocaust and then turn around and treat the Palestinians in such a fashion. It cannot be justified. Sounds like Isiah's prophecy and the reasons for his prophecy are once again evident. It's a pity that "victims" cannot foresee or recognize when they become the oppressor.
"It is exactly the distorted, upside- down, hollow, self-righteous blindness of people" describes very accurately Bibi, those who support and, of course, you. It fits you guys to a T. Stand before your mirror. Problem is nobody buys the victim syndrome any more. Get over it. Stop harrassing and murdering the Palestinians, give them their land and capital and stop pretending that Israel's actions are moral and that she is somehow a victim, they are not and she is not. Pity for you that international consensus now recognizes that.
It is exactly the distorted, upside- down, hollow, self-righteous blindness of people like yourself that Netanyahu's speech was directed at. Get off your phony high-horse and stop your nonsense- it goes nowhere.
To all Antisemites and Arabs: Get real, Israel is here to stay!
Because the report is in the public eye. The fact that it was hardly mentioned does NOT negate its truthfulness. Israel has committed crimes against humanity. You can't get away from that truth. So, all of you who are now "happy" and believe that the issue has gone away. Think again. It hasn't and it won't! This burden for Israel is here to stay and no amount of excuses will ever make Israel whole again. Not anymore.
because essentially, that is what they are doing. Everyone agrees that war is morally challenging. An unbiased report would look at every single conflict taking place right now, and compare them, not for the sake of seeing who is more moral by comparison, but to remove the fact that there is bias in the UN against Israel, and if it was not for America there probably would not be an Israel to speak of, they would already have been drowned and destroyed by resolutions and 'international laws'. Is Israel's battle really less moral than any other battle fought in history, this century, or even the past decade? I'll believe that when Hamas calls citizens and Sederot and warns them of incoming Kassam rockets.
an upstanding credible Jewish Zionist with acknowledged impeccable credentials wrote it versus a not so upstanding, non credible Netanyahoo trying to discredit what his distinguished Jewish compatriot wrote. What is there to discuss? To the Court with the report. Remember Bush's banner on the Navy ship saying "Mission Accomplished" and how that nonsense later took a very large bite out of the US' credibility ass? I rest my case. For gosh sakes, your own soldiers said the same thing. Do you folks ever acknowlege truth? I think not. By the way, did anybody notice how few UN people listened to your PM's speech? I guess they know him for the charlatan he is.
The report is written on paper, signed and stamped and still could have legal implications. the state of Israel and the people with blood on their hands could still be brought to the Hague.
Ahmednijad is a God send for the Israelis, whenever he opens his mouth, it seems like all of Israeli's political problems go away. But they will not go away, for one EVERYTHING that the Iranian president was spot on read transcript here http://politicaltheatrics.org/2009/09/24/full-text-of-ahmadinejads-speech-to-the-un-general-assembly/ The UN is pointless considering the few who advocate war crimes aren't held accountable AKA US and Israel
the usa would be more vulnerable then israel.just think about it for a few moments.the americans are fighting terrorism everywhere.tens of thousands of civilians were killed.
If the UN Charter means anything at all it is high time to expel the Iranian dictatorship from the UN and give its place to representatives of democratic Iranian. Enough is enough!
