Israel rejects bill allocating equal land to Jews and Arabs
MK Ahmed Tibi: Israel proving it avoids civil equality, hasn't approved single new Arab village since 1948.
By Jonathan Lis Tags: Israel newsThe Ministerial Committee for Legislation on Sunday rejected a bill proposed by MK Ahmed Tibi (Ra'am-Ta'al) proposing that the state enforce equal allocation of land to Jews and Arabs.
"Yet again, the Israeli government has proven that it is avoiding the principle of civil equality," Tibi said in response to the ruling. "The same government which approved the selection bill of [Jewish] MKs David Rotem and Israel Hasson, ignores Arabs' rights, and hasn't approved the building of a new Arab village since 1948. The government failed at the challenge I placed before it, and that saddens me."
The bill's authors stressed the importance of it in an explanation to the committee.
"Since the foundation of the state, the Israel Lands Administration is solely used as Jewish land administration. The director of the Israel Lands Administration has used all the tactics, with the help of the Jewish Agency, to allocate state land only to Jews. Despite the bitter attempt over the decades, not even one Arab town has been established since the state's foundation. Therefore a bill must be passed which stipulates that the Israel Lands Administration will serve all the state's citizens without discrimination on religion or nationality, and will promise an equal allocation of land to better the Arab population of Israel."
Tibi's proposal was intended to counter a bill passed two weeks ago which states that reception committees of Israeli communities can decide who will reside in their towns. One consequence of that bill is that Israeli Arabs would not be able to live in those towns if the reception committees decide so.

NOT ONE MORE INCH, EVER!!
"Also how do you justify taking all the land held by the ILA and dividing it so that 50% is allocated for around 5 million jews but the other 50% is allocated for 1.2 million arabs?" You can't be that stupid can you? No one is talking about a 50-50 split of the land. It's about equality in the distribution of state land. If you get your head out of your backside you might be able to see something. " The arabs are demanding they are given the Galilee triangle which would be a fully autonomous from Israel. They are the growing threat to Israel not the palestinians." So just declare them enemies of the state and expel them all.
Any attempt to deny that jewish Israelis are racists dissolves before these all too common acts. what do you expect the world to believe, your bullsh*t or their lying eyes? A government that does not treat all its citizens equally is a tyranny, undeserving of loyalty or international acceptance. Every passing day makes it harder for the diaspora to defend Israel. Soon Tel Aviv will make antisemitism more than attractive, it will make it a moral imperative. No excuse can justify this clear, unambiguous racism.
Then we ask ourselves why do the World hate us. If tomorrow an unforseen catastophy happen to Israel, would anybody surprize if the world community say" well they deserve it, don't they?, after all what they did to the poor defenceless Arabs?" Mr PM Nathanyahu Why can't we negociate PEACE,NOW, and let us live a happy life as everybody. SHALOM
against the minority, 2nd class Israeli MUSLIMS and CHRISTIANS, when will all ends for these unfortunate people. Like to know what the WORLD SILENT COMMUNITIES going to do about this?
is showing the world about its true Democracy, where only Jews are counted as citizens. Something Palestinians should learn so that they can apply the same criteria, when are in charge of the State of Palestine. The Government always say when we are in charge of the Whole of Jerusalem city, we will be unbiased, and fair to all religions and ethnicity., Why not prove it NOW.
but no one should be surprised that this bill failed. it's consistent with israel's policies regarding palestinians going back to its inception; which are ALL oriented toward ethnic cleansing. the "abandoned property law", the denial of re-entry to any who leave, denial of building permits, home demolitions, building settlements on palestinian land, destruction of orchards, vineyards, and farms for "security" reasons, and the list goes on, and on, and ON! "ethnic cleansing", brad! only difference is that israel is doing it in a quiet, less conspicuous way; one that's extremely devious and hypocritical...especially as it touts itself as a democracy to the rest of the world. and your defense of its sinister methods says alot about YOUR human morals, brad.
where virtually 100% percent of settler permit requests are approved...and 94% of palestinian requests are denied. and then the whiners whine about their natural growth(which is actually a continuous influx of of settlers), and complain about lack of enforcement against the palestinians who are systematically denied the ability to accomodate their own REAL "natural growth"...even on land that they own! where exactly they're expected to live? i read somewhere that for every "one" of those extremely few permits authorized for palestinians; there are "fifty-one" demolitions of palestinian structures that lack them. oh but MY GOD!...it's so "anti-semitic" of us to criticize what goes on!
The Olmert government recently passed a bill to build a brand new arab town for thousands. Also how do you justify taking all the land held by the ILA and dividing it so that 50% is allocated for around 5 million jews but the other 50% is allocated for 1.2 million arabs? The arabs are demanding they are given the Galilee triangle which would be a fully autonomous from Israel. They are the growing threat to Israel not the palestinians.
...while it is something to learn from. An old truth says: no justice, no peace. What wasn't good for South Africa shouldn't be good for Israel as well.
"Arabs don`t make up 50% of the Israeli citizens. So what gives them the right to 50% of the land?" Paul. Listen. Never ever ever comment without reading the article. If you are not a downright white Jewish suprematist, the below quote must answer your question: "[the govn't] hasn't approved the building of a new Arab village since 1948" For thse hard to read the article reiterates: "Despite the bitter attempt over the decades, not even one Arab town has been established since the state's foundation." And you called the futile attempt of MK Tibi to change this 100% Jewish urban land allocation into anything less a "Arab Land Grab Attempt". Are you not one of those guys who in the next forum scream their heads off about Israeli Democracy?
Arabs make up a third of Israeli society yet not a single Arab village has been built since Israel's foundation, while land is perpetually being taken from Arab Israelis and allotted to Jewish Israelis, not to mention the blatant land theft in the West Bank. Also - you sound like the same person...
SA got over apartheid thanks to international pressure/boycot and the extraordinary leadership of N.Mandela and FW Deklerk. They had the vision of the future and could lead their people away from fear. How to help Israel to go over this curse of apartheid and survive ? How long can Israel continue to be nice face with a rotting soul ? Immorality from what proclaims to be the most moral area in the world cannot be tolerated. International opinion is moving away from the goodwill fueled by historic guilt and will start to increase pressure to a level that will affect voters and domestic opinion. I hope Hamas/Fatah can inspire themselves from the Mandelas, Gandhi.. and pick their leader well, and that together with a true jewish leader they can help with the rebirth of Israel/Palestine, a modern state, earning worldwide respect. South Africa is doing it.
Israel's critics, of course, won't let it win. Seperate Arab and Jewish communities would be apartheid and the failure to approve of such seperate commmunities is aparthed. Of course, the true aparthed is found running rampant in the Arab world, include Gaza and the West Banks where Jews are not welcome to live in any environment, whether part of a Pal community or serperately.
Equal land for Arabs and Jews, within the Jewish state. Nevermind that "Palestine" is to be split into a Jewish and an Arab nation, but the Jewish nation must also be split with the Arabs. Furthermore, Arabs don't make up 50% of the Israeli citizens. So what gives them the right to 50% of the land? Open your eyes hippies. The main ones trying to make a land grab are the Arabs. You all have it backwards.
looks like lots of people ought to apologize to Jimmy Carter. Or criticize him for uding the term "apartheid" only in regard to the West Bank.
Here in the US, we are beginning to see the true face of Israel, they are not the shining example of peace, prosperity and democracy in the middle east. They are just another apartheid state that deserves niether our respect or our support. Sadly, they cannot see that this segretion and racism will erode their state from within.
This is the 'democracy' America so shamelessly supports.
Israel is a Jewish apartheid state . Hafradah or separation is the official policy . You can't expect equality in such a state
Every day brings news of another blatant injustice committed by Israel. It appears Israelis are prepared to abandon any semblance of our Jewish values for free land. I am saddened by this brand of Judaism which is an offense to all of us. If we cannot influence Israel to be a haven for all Jews but still respect diversity of all peoples, what have we accomplished? Today I believe I have a greater bond with the peacemakers of the world than with an Israeli nation that devours other peoples land and lives.
