The Iraqi government will demand compensation from Israel for the 1981 bombing of the nuclear reactor at Osirak, according to an Iraqi newspaper.

A member of the Iraqi parliament, Mohammed Naji Mohammed, was quoted as saying in newspaper Al-Sabah that the Iraqi prime minister and Foreign Ministry have approached the United Nations with a demand for compensation.

The paper said that in November Iraq's cabinet approved a move to seek compensation.

Mohammed said the demand was based on a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel's action.
