Iran: We'll 'blow up the heart' of Israel if attacked

Revolutionary Guard official says Iran will destroy Israel if hit by a single U.S. or Israeli missile.

By Reuters Tags: Iran Iran Revolutionary Guard Iran nuclear Israel news

Iran would "blow up the heart" of Israel if the Israel or the United States attacked the Islamic Republic, a Revolutionary Guards official said in comments published on Friday.

"Even if one American or Zionist missile hits our country, before the dust settles, Iranian missiles will blow up the heart of Israel," the official IRNA news agency quoted Mojtaba Zolnour as saying.

He is a deputy representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the elite Guards force. Iranian officials have also in the past said the country would retaliate in case of any Israeli or U.S attack on it.

Earlier this year, a senior commander said Iranian missiles could reach Israeli nuclear sites. Israel is believed to be the only nuclear-armed Middle East state.

Irael has not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to end a dispute over Iran's nuclear ambitions, echoing U.S. policy, although Washington is engaged in a drive to resolve the issue through direct talks with Iran.

The West suspects the Islamic state is covertly seeking to develop nuclear weapons, which Iran denies.

"The Zionist regime and the United States cannot risk attacking Iran," Zolnour said in the holy Shi'ite city of Qom on Thursday, citing Iranian military and technological advances, IRNA reported.

At talks in Geneva on Oct. 1, Iran agreed with six world powers - the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany -to give U.N. experts access to a newly-disclosed uranium enrichment plant south of Tehran.

Iran and Western powers described talks as constructive and a step forward.

However, underlying tension was highlighted before the meeting when Iran test-fired missiles with ranges that could put Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf region within reach.

On Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that some states - including France - had offered to provide his country with uranium enriched to 20 percent for use as nuclear reactor fuel, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Iran has always insisted on its right to carry out its own enrichment of uranium for a nuclear program which it says is for purely peaceful purposes, mainly to generate electricity. It rejects Western suspicions its real aim is to build an atomic bomb, which would require uranium enriched to around 90 percent.

"There have been some proposals by individual countries and groups of countries. We are ready to hold talks with anyone interested. Our experts will soon start talks with those sellers," Ahmadinejad said.

He said Iran could also buy nuclear fuel from the United States, its old enemy. "We want to buy fuel. We can buy it from anywhere and America can be a seller," ISNA news agency quoted him as saying.

Regardless of your lecture on the said subject. Pacifism is not generally defined by sponsoring of a war in Pakistan nor by fulfilling a pledge to expand the war in Afghanistan having already escalated the same war by some margin. What you are seemingly so upset about is Obamas's 'hesitance' in yet 'further' expansion in Afghanistan beyond already elevated levels despite numerous American concerns about unlearned lessons from Vietnam. Your lack of comprehension on 'pacifism' is matched by your desire for bloodletting on yet greater scales. People like you should be made to fight in the wars they crave. You might fare better with a gun than a keyboard at any rate.

repeating second rate neo con bilge like 'Iran permits al-Queda top commanders to live in the lap of luxury in Tehran. Who BTW, have had operational responsibility for killing US servicemen in Iraq.' Got that off Fox News or Washington Times I dare say. Iran were the first muslim nation to condemn 9/11. Hardly surprising considering they are diametrically opposed to sunni al Queda. Please don't make your nonsense even sillier by mentioning that dumb arse story about one of Bin Ladens 150 sons who was reported killed in Pakistan not Iran just recently. If you knew anything you would know Iran supports Shia extremists not sunni. what passes for intelligent on here is not much, that i can see. As for Iraq, another pile of schoolboy errors from you sir. WHO stood down tha Mahdi army in Iraq when M.al Sadr was flexing his muscles? IRAN. They were ideological supporters of Maliki the current PM and all they are concerned about is having a friendly Iraq-which thanks to the US they now have, with or without Maliki. It is almost entirely Sunni groups and al Queda who attacked the US in Iraq( with whom Iran have little influence) until the US started paying them(Sons of Iraq) a stipend. It is the same Iran who fought against the Taliban supporting the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan by the way. You really ought to leave these issues to someone more knowledgeable than a bozo! They are far too complex for a dimwitted blogger. As for Israel only massacring a thousand plus in Gaza and wrecking the infrastructure because of twelve deaths in 7 years in Sderot (fair enough then?) whilst they are going to be real careful about Iran (the existential threat!) oh yes I see your logic! The logic of a bozo. I am being a little unfair of course, even your last President didn?t find Iraq on a map without help so a blogger from California a can hardly be faulted.

condemn and punish all of those who are not Islamic. Islam is a very primitive and bigoted philosophy, meting out severe punishment to those who do not adhere to their beliefs. So, Iran is just another example of what happens when an Islamic nation is feeling powerful in the face of frightened nations like Israel and the US.

Iran does not understand new world order. They are old-fashioned and still believe in ancient laws. In the more enlighened and modern new world order identity is important, not behaviour. From an Islamic Republic we expect, that they should love their enemies and turn the other cheek, when attacked. As good Judeo-Christians, we think, it is okay, if we (this applies only to us) threaten and attack others - especially if we feel afraid, or if we need more ressources or land or whatever - and this also includes nuclear first strikes according to our NATO doctrine. Killing civilians is okay, as long as the victims do not belong to the U.S., Israel and friends, and it should be done with Western equipment, which is too expensive for the evil Muslims. All our activities are good, because of our identity, because we are from the West, because we are Judeo-Christian, enlightened etc.

Menem.... All the rubbish you posted are references to obscure speeches taken out of context. It's absolutely meaningless... period. In the 2006 Lebanese war, Israel retaliated to an act of war. The kidnaping of soldiers from Israeli territory. Same exact situation in Gaza, firing rocket into population centers for years. Let me simply point out actions speak louder then words. Israel never attacked Iran, but for past few years Tehran has been sending so called armed Hezbollah commanders into Gaza. Which fire Qassam rockets into Israel proper to this day. Tehran pays dollar compensation to terrorist families, who preformed crimes against civilians in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. Iran permits al-Queda top commanders to live in the lap of luxury in Tehran. Who BTW, have had operational responsibility for killing US servicemen in Iraq. You may like to overlook these facts... but in reality the Bozo is you.

CJ # 51 - Iran Occupies Arab Territory
    • Benjamin
    • 10.10.09
    • 01:12

Iran occupies Abu Musa and the Lesser and Greater Tunbs, islands located near key shipping lanes in the Persian Gulf. But these islands are claimed by the United Arab Emirates. (See, for example, article in Haaretz dated August 21, 2008.) Iran, therefore, is in no position to criticize Israel for "occupying" Arab land. Besides, occupation of land captured in defensive war is not illegal. Anyway, why is "occupation" used only when Israel takes Arab territory? Why were there no claims of occupation voiced when Egypt controlled Gaza and Jordan annexed the West Bank between 1949 and 1967? Just think objectively about this.

Persia was proud and never a real problem (except maybe for some 300 loony-tunes Spartans) untill it was humbled and only then it became Iran and a problem in our days. That deep psychological wound still rotting is core of this problem. This problem however would become as minor as having forgotten the chicken for a summer picknick compared to the problems for the WORLD that would arise from an Israeli attack. The heart of Israel is perfectly safe from the Iranian problem as long as Israel does not screw up, so to say. Solution? Not immediatly, but all true solutions for (threat of) war start with conviction and realisation in wounded grudgers that there is too much too loose with that and too much to win the other way. Woo them, invite them, bring them in, seduce them (economically, technologically), humble them with respectfull behaviour towards them, make them see themselves as primitive and hatefull peasants if they do not chance. Be not like them, do not shout and threaten back.

What an astonishing statement. In reality, the Palestinians were the ones who rejected the Partition and it was them who illegally grabbed territories assigned to the Jewish State by the UN. If you think that Israel "grabbed lands illegally" back in 1948, it is clear that you reject the very establishment and existence of the State of Israel.

If Israel attacks Iran then Iran has the right to attack aswell. Iran has not threatened Israel, israel is the one making threats. The chances of Iran attacking Israel is very low since its military is not capable of that just yet.It would also be the end of Iran.Israel is much superior in all senses but Israel should understand one thing...Iran will eventually get the bomb, one way or the other. They have pretty much mastered the technology and an attack can only delay it by a few years. Its going to happen eventually and Israel will have to accept a nuclear Iran. Iran is not an existential threat, as Ehud Barak has said.

First, Iran says it will attack Israel if the U.S. attacks. Based on this "logic", why shouldn't Israel attack Iran given that it is being attacked by Pals and, indeed, Hezbollah who does Iran's bidding in Lebanon? The other point was made earlier. Iran says it will wipe out Israel and if Israel defends itself it will wipe out Israel. Huh? Completely nuts these mullas and their little empty headed robots.

Re your comment that Israel shouldn't attack other countries, your right except when Israel does so, as it always, without exception, has IN SELF DEFENCE. When it is attacked or its citizens attacked it has every right to fight back. And there should be a cost to every country that is the aggressor as all the Arab countries and the Pals have been. As to Iran. Poof, its gone, if Israel wills it so. But it won't unless attacked.

"Is Iran prepared to lose its major cities in a counterstrike?" Why can't you understand what the man said? He was warning Israel that Iran would hit it in a counterstrike if Israel or the US fired first. This is called 'deterrence'. And just consider this. If Iranian cities were destroyed, such a war would destroy most of Israel and the survivors would be on the refugee trail back to the US or Europe, never to return. MAD now rules the Middle East.

It was only when Israel decided to keep the Palestinian territories it had illegally acquired by war, by 1949, that Iran decided Israel wasn't doing the right thing. If Iran is sponsoring Hamas, it's a response to Israel's illegal activities. This 'threat' of retaliation is dependent on Israel again not doing the right thing and attacking Iran.

Folks, time to grow up and live in a global community. Spirituality is about bringing humanity together and it is really sad that religion seems to be doing the opposite. G-D Bless Humanity and our incredible capacity to love even those who are different from ourselves. G-D bless those sane people in Iran who want a healtier government and want to be part of the global community. To the Muslim world, Israel will not be destroyed and to Israel, let the Palestinians live with dignity and a sense of fairness. This will stop the spread of these violent, religious groups.

Although Israel has atomic bombs, they have not deterred any wars. Atomic bombs could not prevent terrorism in Iran and could not prevent civil war. Atomic bombs may be a tool of terrorism. They were used in conventional war. Today it is more likely a terrorist could launch a nuclear terrorist attack. If Iran is trying to scare away the enemies from attacking, why did Lebanon War II happen. I don't think it should have, but how did it happen when even the Ayatollah didn't want it to happen.

SHOULD the Iranians decided to shoot a nuclear head missile (HUH? I thought they were using nuclear technology for peaceful purposes?), the outcome would be devastating for the Arabs, not Israel. Look at experience: Saddam fired rockets at Israel in '91....they struck and killed Jordanians and Palestinians when shot down! If Iran fires, Israel has, through missile protection and IAF pilots, the ability to destroy them over Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Saudi, and the Gulf States.RESULTS: Incineration of Allah's best! Additionally, the winds blow west to east, which means the fallout will drift AWAY from the Jewish State and back over the Islamist states. So, for the record, permit me to state that Mecca, Amman, Dubai, and the others are NOT "the heart" of the Jewish State. Or better yet, can the allies of the Iranian terrorists to whom Obama is reaching out say "let's bend over and kiss our butts good-bye?"

Recently, Haniyeh and his gang were eagerly waiting for the IDF with some surprises ...He had to fire his commanders -- wrong again. Yesterday, Ahmadino" Israel is incapable to launch anything against us"--- Today,"if the Jews attack,we will pulverize them" we will blow up their heart(including Gaza, Jordan,Lebanon, Syria ????). Of course Iran will then attack Israel and will provide a much sterner test for the IDF(who are good for targeting civilians and not much else at the minute). Don't want bombs dropping in TA? One thing we have learned from history, if some country continues to say "we will destroy your country" at some point they will try to keep their promise. Iran, in this case, is simply scared of an attack. They lie about their true motives(to build a A-bomb) on the nuclear issue and need to stall for time. So they scream at the top of their lungs hoping to intimidate the people who could destroy the infrastructure they need to have nuclear weapons. Western powers must ignore the rants from Iran. They will not attack Israel. Their own people do NOT want to be drawn into a war that would devastate their country. They saw the pictures of Lebanon. Iran doesn't mind Hezbo doing its bidding because Iran doesn't have to pay the price (although the Lebanese people did). Do what must be done to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons, that's the bottom line. If they want to play chicken, let the game begin, Iran will blink.

"The population of Tehran is about 7,800,000. One neutron bomb would kill most of them. What is he trying to achieve with his stupid comments?" Seems to be, if Israel or the US attacks Iran first, Iran will retaliate. When the Palestinians attack Israel, it retaliates. Is there one rule for Israel and another for everyone else? "The message to Israel from Iran would appear to be this: We are planning to kill you, but if you try to stop us, we will kill you." All your own work? Cute....

These loud and bombastic threats grow in direct proportion to Iran'sr realization that they are being isolated on the world scene. Israel's silence in the wake of these threats is encouraging. When Israel get's bombastic (occcasionally) nothing really occurs. When Israel is silent (The Egytpian airforce in 1967; Entebbe in the late 70s, Osirak in 1981, the Syrian reactor site in 2008 and the Russian arms freighter this year) it often means something stunning is coming.

Iran has neither a heart nor brains. Meanwhile, with all of Iran's "technological advances" they would likely incorrectly set their missiles' coordinates to Palestine, Texas and the missiles would end up destroying a pig farm in France!

Iran would not launch a missle attack against Israel for this would set of a nuclear holocaust, and they know it. On the other hand there's the story about the Scorpion and The Frog. "The story is about a scorpion asking a frog to carry him across a river. The frog is afraid of being stung, but the scorpion reassures him that if it stung the frog, the frog would sink and the scorpion would drown as well. The frog then agrees; nevertheless, in mid-river, the scorpion stings him, dooming the two of them. When asked why, the scorpion explains, "This is the Middle East." Oy!

The likelyhood of the manic-depressive Zolnour's threat becoming reality has as much chance as the revival of the Dodo. Israel might be big in achievements but very small geographically, thus to miss it from Iran is a possibility, in whic case the bombs will destroy Lourdan, Egypt, Gaza and the Suez Canal. That will hurt lots of not so friendly people to Iran: the Sunnis. What a jojo this Mojtaba, and he is a deputy?!

The Iranians really don't do themselves any favours when it comes to influencing world oppinion. They always fall into the same old trap of giving their potential adversaries ammo to throw back at them on the world stage. They also tend to state the obvious. I really don't think any country in a constant readiness for war such as Iran or Isreal should continue to 'talk up' the prospect of millitary action or it may just become self fullfilling. Also, to those talking of destroying Iran - have you really thought it through? Have you looked at the US and Russian 'projections' and 'potential outcomes' of an attack on Iran? If you had you would realise that it would be nonsensicle and unafordable (both financially and in lives lost).

The population of Tehran is some where between 12-15 milllion. Get your facts straigh before you talk. Besides of that, the israelis know better than you that should there be any attack on iran their lovely holy land would be turned into dust by iranian missiles showering on them. And just to make it clear for you, saddams missiles were nothing compared to what iran has in its arsenal. So if I were you,I would take the generals word serious. Getting caught up in arrogance is the worst thing that could happen while planning a fight.

Sadam Husain promised to burn half of Israel if attacked, but the Western powers plus some Arabs were able to bring him to the gallow. I prefer physical signals to rhetorics. The Iranian revolution is beseiged by numerous powerful ennemies including internal opposition. Opressed Arab and Muslim nations see in Iran a serious challenger to imperialism and zionism.

There's an old expression "don't wish for something too much because you could get it for yourself". Iran seems to forget that Israel has 400+ nuclear weapons and the Jericho III missles to deliver them. Anything that's left the Us would obliterate.

So if the US sends a missle Iran blows up Israel and not the US, interesting. Chances are if the US does go into Iran, which they wont they won't have a chance to respond or attact anything right away. Iran talks alot, but without Hez doing there dirty work they are really nothing but a high school bully thay gets knocked out by the freshman squirt. Pound your chest all you want Iran, when push comes to shove, even your Muslim brothers will run from you and hide.
