Iran to hold missile defense exercise on Yom Kippur
Revolutionary Guards: Goal of drill is to raise 'deterrence capability' of Iranian armed forces.
By Reuters and Haaretz Service Tags: Yom Kippur Iran Israel newsIran's elite Revolutionary Guards will hold missile defense exercises on the upcoming Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, Iranian media reported on Saturday.
The announcement of the war games coincided with increased tension in Iran's nuclear dispute with the West, after the Islamic Republic disclosed that it is building a second uranium enrichment plant.
The reports did not say what kind of missiles would be used in the war games, which will start on Sunday, the eve of Yom Kippur. In May, Iran said it had tested a missile that defense analysts said could hit Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf.
A statement quoted by Iranian news agencies said the goal of the exercises by the Revolutionary Guards' air force, was "to raise the deterrence capability of the Iranian armed forces."
On Yom Kippur in 1973, a coalition of Arab states launched a surprise attack on Israel. The ensuing conflict, the Yom Kippur War, was particularly costly and traumatic for Israel.
General Hossein Salami, head of the Guards' air force, said that the drill would include simultaneous firings of missiles at targets. The exercises, which will begin Sunday, will last several days and take place in various locations.
Israeli leaders have repeatedly expressed alarm over Iran's nuclear ambitions and refused to rule out pre-emptive military action to stop Iran developing an atomic weapon.
Israel considers Iran a strategic threat due to its nuclear program, missile development and repeated references by Ahmadinejad to Israel's destruction.

all activity and observe your holy days? Ahmadinajeh is trying to insult our holliest day You -Lola I am sure that Israel does not respect the muslim holy days or sites. I am not going to change my activities for Jewish,Muslim, Hindu or Bhuddists holy days.
How would u react then if Hezballah get these missile near the border?, last war u cuold not do any thing for lower level ones, these time, may be threating, no?.. ohh .. but u r doing it on daily bases.
to prove Iranian masters they are well trained Iranian lapdogs that are ready to die for Ahmadinejad dream of the ME without Israel.
Nobody is pushing Iran into anything. It wants nuclear weapons, it signed the non proliferation treaty, it breaches its commitments. Iran does this all by itself. Sadly, when its population voted and there was a decisive split, the ruling government cracked down. 'We' are responding to actions not initiating them. This is geo politics. As it always was. And as it always will be.
And if not by the IDF, that's even better.
I see to recall a lot of country carrying out similar exercises in recent years, including Israel yet i see no declaration of war from everyone. If Iran farts then does that count as an act of war also? IT seems far too many WANT war instead of trying to avoid it here. It seems Israel (or at least the settlers and those in powere)are becoming a blood thirst nation.
I will be not surprised that Iran will create a conflict this weekend, to have a reason to stop inspections and talks with the west. If I were an israeli I will put the forces on alert, specially those anti rocket system. The same in the gulf and Saudi Arabia.
Iran taking care of its citizens, being a real democracy, with elections & leaders that really represent the people of Iran and not a lunatic religious minority. Iran has the choice to stop wanting to send the world into a 3rd WW, stop denying the holocaust, stop fomenting hate against Israel, stop threatening Israel of destruction. Iran can concentrate on making their economy healthier with all their oil revenues for their population benefit. As for Israel & Kippour, Israel is not a sitting duck, even on Kippour. The lessons from the Kippour war were well learned. Ahmadinajeh is trying to insult our holliest day, but even on Kippour the duty to protect lives is higher than observing it.
Yom Kippur is a Jewish holiday. It's not a holiday for the rest of the world.
Chris, that is just silly. Firstly, Iran is not pushed into a corner by Western intelligence acknowledging information they held back after Iran itself publishes it in correspondence with international non-proliferation officials. Secondly, Iran is not going to fire anything on any Israeli target because if it engaged in such an action it would not be considered a provocation, or letting off stream, or a sign of psychological distress but as a causus belli. Iran would suffer an immediate and massive retaliatory response.
While much of the globe braces for a possible Israeli strike on Iranian soil, the possibility of reverse expectations could result. Perhaps Iran allied with Russia and many others may decide in the interest of preserving their alliance that a pre-emptive attack on Israel is needed. Their remains much at stake if Israel is successful in an Iranian strike including trade in natural gas, petroleum, and weapons for both defensive and offensive operations. Russia would be severely crippled in their lucrative arms trade by revealing their anti-missile defense systems as ineffective. Yom Kippur would be the perfect scenario for such an attack unfortunately.
It is disgusting to see how childish and brutish the Iranians respond when they are caught red-handed with their pants down below their knees. What do they do? They hold military maneuvers during a Jewish high holiday. These vulgur low-class people don't endear themselves to the world with their childish behavior. Such boors. But what goes round, will come round and bite them in the arse good and hard. It is time to completely isolate Iran and help bring their economy to collapse so as to rid the world of their Nazi-religious regime.
Regardless of what you think about the Arab-Israeli conflict...regardless if you feel that Israel has committed some very serious incidents with unwarranted violence.....regardless of all this......the Iranian regime is proving everyday that it is a true rogue regime and even more....a decidedly foolish one. they are leading their nation and people to a catastrophe. The buffoonery of Achmad and others like Chavez, Nasrallah et al is proof of their lack of interest in peace or any type of reconciliation. Playing perfectly into the hand of Israeli rejectionists.
Who would believe that a peace-loving nation like Israel could be provoked into war against its neighbors? How can that happen? Well, if Iran is to stage defensive tactics because the peaceful israeli government has threatened to bomb them, than what else can peace-loving Israel do?
They made us destroy Tel Aviv. You must meet a lot of people who appear standing on their heads?
With or without Hashem, with or without anti-missile capabilities, the People of Israel, the «People of Priests», 4000 years old, eternal, invincible and indestructible, will survive this new breed of monsters, just as it survived all the previous monsters that swore to wipe Israel off the face of the earth
You have a very strange sense of logic. And of course this is the west's fault.
Peter There is a Jewish saying Hashem helps he who helps himself! That is the Jewish story!
Iran Is Provoking A War. . . Let there be know doubt.. I doubt you know whether or not. Let there be no doubt. I also doubt you remember this article from a week back http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1115703.html It seems the Iranians are just puffing up their chest and hooting like the USA and Israel. Chimpanzee politics.
Israel and US announce missile war games. Then Iran announces missile war games. Anyone think that when they grow up they will stop acting like children?
we are pushing Iran into a corner where firing missiles at Israel may seem the only way out.
Pete - It's all about balancing Hishtadlut and Bitahon. All of life is a narrow bridge... Peace out brother!
Perfect diversion to pull his citizens together. Test their patriotism. That should provide the cover he needs to uproot his weeds.
Interesting decision. How long will it take for an 'official' change to that planned exercise
If these missile's are according to what you state nothing but scrap metal, then why all the fuss and outrage?after all they are nothing..right??And according to your own statement's you have ..what was his name?..Oh yes..Hashem on your side who will protect you(does he also have anti missile capabilities?)
Let there be know doubt. God Bless Israel!
