Iran executes two people over post-election unrest
Tehran sentences 11 to death on charges of waging 'war against God' and trying to overthrow the regime.
By Reuters Tags: Iran election 2009 Israel newsIran executed two people on Thursday over widespread street unrest that erupted after the Islamic Republic's disputed presidential election in June, an Iranian news agency reported.
The two were among 11 people who had been sentenced to death over post-election incidents, the ISNA agency said.
The prisoners were being charged with offenses including moharebeh (waging war against God), efforts to overthrow the Islamic establishment and membership of armed groups, the ISNA students agency said.
The presidential election plunged Iran into its deepest internal crisis since the 1979 Islamic revolution. Dozens of people were killed in clashes between security forces and opposition supporters across Iran since the elections, including a nephew of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi.
A fierce government crackdown had all but crushed mass street protests, which the opposition says President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won by fraud.
But the protests regained momentum in December and large turnouts at rallies showed months of arrests and intimidation have failed to stamp out the movement.

not to try to do something to save`probably innocent people, just because they do not accept this middle age gouvernment. How many will die with unfair trial and false accusations? our government stay still, nobody cares
...hard pressed sanctions are inevitable. This country is not a country: it is a ganster territory that want to have nukes. I hope that the world will stand against them asap. No wonder they are best friends with China, same sh...
For various charges to create a state of fear and intimidation. Got news for you regime: Ain't gonna work......we are here....we are countless....and we are GREEN.
-"Democracy is illegal" -"voicing your opinion publically is illegal" -"Disagreeing with the government is illegal" -"peacefull protests are illegal (unless they agree with the government)" -Heck, "Everything is illegal, unless tated otherwise by the government!"
Big difference if your seeking 'human rights'. Iran is executing legitimate protesters. State sanctioned murder. It speaks for itself, in volumes. Israel sent aid to Haiti, Iran, Saudi's, Syria, etc. did not. Not a dime, not a penny. They spend their money on death and terror. Israel spends money on others to save lives. This, basically, is the crux of the matter and of the vast differences between Israel and her Islamic Repugnant counterparts.
I am but a simple soul, non intellectual, not in a position to set the world straight like the self annointed moral giants who trawl here preaching human rights when it suits their agenda.

I don't like the Iran policies and I don't like their clerical republic. But theirs was an authentic revolution and yes they have a democracy it is obvious for me. What I saw after their last election remembers me about the american inspired ans financed color revolutions. It seems that the US$ 400 milLions voted by Bush administration to promote "democracy" (regime change) in Irn were put to good use. One ca be against Iran policies but doesn't necessary have to be naive or idiot. Let us fight them for the true reasons and not for "democracy" or "human rights".
To be executed for "war against God"?? Actually it's war against politicians but it seems to equate to the same thing in the eyes of the Iranian regime. BTW PETER - you realize one can be critical of Israel AND Iran for their mistreatment of their respective populations, right? Do you think that the Iranian revolutionaries applaud Israel's destruction of 100 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem over the past three months?
That you're not?
Yes....strange to see how quiet this talkback is......lack of the usual suspects voicing their disgust.....but then of course, it's Israel that's behind all the unrest in "free" and democratic Iran.
I certainly do. Shame on these thugs running Iran, killing their citizens, and even assassinating their own academics (and blaming Israel for it).
unequivocally? Call for arrests in Britain? How many will offer some lame excuse or mild condemnation? How many will just go ground as in reality they have no interest in human rights, just bashing Israel at every opportunity.
