Turkey PM calls on Mubarak to listen to demands of his people
Erdogan tells Egypt president to 'listen to people's outcries and extremely humanistic demands,' says solution to political problems lay in the ballot box.
By News Agencies and Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news TurkeyTurkey's Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should listen to the demands of his people, in an address to his Islamic-oriented AK party in the Turkish parliament.
Erdogan's comments came on the cusp of the much anticipated "million man march", a protest due to take place later in the day Tuesday in Cairo's Tahrir Square to mark a week of anti-government demonstrations in Egypt.

Demonstrations and violent riots have continued in Egypt for seven straight days, with protesters refusing to leave the streets until Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak leaves the government.
"Listen to people's outcries and extremely humanistic demands," Erdogan said in the televised address to members of the ruling AK Party. "Meet the freedom demands of people without a doubt."
Erdogan, whose country is often held up as a model for democracy in Muslim nations, went on to say the solution to political problems lay in the ballot box.
Turkey's diplomatic clout in the Middle East has risen in the past few years, as its past friendship with Israel has dwindled, particularly after Israeli naval commanders boarded the Mavi Marmara, the flagship of the Turkish-sponsored Gaza-bound aid flotilla, on May 31, 2010. The activists on board the boat resisted, and nine people were killed.
Last month, Turkey rejected Israel's probe into the incident, led by the Turkel Commission, that concluded that the IDF soldiers acted in self-defense when they killed nine Turkish citizens on board the ship.
According to Erdogan, the report had "no value or credibility" and Turkey's own panel of inquiry had concluded that Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip and its raid on the Turkish-led Gaza flotilla were in violation of international law.

Islamic Revolution"Our Revolution was the explosion of Light". can u tell, who had that said?
Amazing how this guy always makes these comments from his chair in his nice office. Erdogan is like a baby that lacks attention, so he makes these comments hoping that the world will look at him... like he keeps wining for an apology from Israel, even though he knows damn well there were terrorists on that boat. Can't stand seeing this guys' coward face.
Erdogan came on TV and announced that he is canceling his trip to Egypt that was planned for today. He said he will go when things settle down a bit. I guess hes trying to wait to see what happens before he picks sides...
Erdogan is not different than Mubarak. Erdogan is the biggest ally of the US and Erdogan has dictatorial policies. The funny thing is some in the Arab world see him as sultan, but Erdogan has always been a very passionate supporter of Iraqi war and G.W.Bush's policies. Erdogan also planned to sell a large part of Turkiye's land to Israel right after his clash with Peres in Davos. Erdogan's priority is his power and financial benefits. Erdogan is a good actor and he uses religion, Israeli-Palestinian conflict and democracy for his own aims and benefits. Erdogan is identical to all the other Middle Eastern dictators.
Erdogan comes first, then comes Islamic Turkey.

Looks like Egypt will become the only democracy in the Middle East at peace with its neighbors.
Which Kurds do you mean and what, exactly, are their aspirations?
Not totally but almost. Kurds have their own tv, schools and their identities was recognized first by erdogan's government.
The Arab world's sleeping giant has finally woken from its slumbers after years of being drugged and mugged by the West.
Listen who's talking , it's a Joke
I'm looking for the moment to say goodbye Hüsnü.
i hope Mubarak sees the new kind of models in middle east democracy. Otherwise, Hussein Saddam models outbreaks..
... he is always right in his words. He is always by the oppressed people and against the oppressors. No matter what you write, give him some credits in your thoughts.
Well, you might be intrigued to learn that it was actually Erdogan's AKP that improved the situation of Kurds significantly. If you kept informed, you would know that being a Kurd in Turkey hasn't been as pleasant as it is nowadays for roughly 90 years. As for the "occupied Cypriots" - if you look back in history, you will discover that Turkey invaded in the 1970s to protect the Turkish Cypriots against Greek oppression. Also in recent years Turkey and the Turkish part of Cyprus had accepted Annan's plan of reuniting the country, which was rejected by the Greek side.
erdogan better keep quietand wait as such a situation will arrive soon in turkey to remove you
These moves in Tunusia and Egypt will open way to more Islamic models I guess. Erdogan is already Islamic, I don't think a more progressive movement will take place in Turkey. But not sure if more Islamic demands (headscarfs in goverment offices etc.) will be accepted in Turkey, possible.
In democracies we vote our opinions.
he has been elected. if he must be "removed "as you say, it will be through elections. it is up to turkish to decide who the best leader is for them not you. comparing situations in Egypt and Turkey is nonsensical. do you know any of those countries?
a template for a democracy which we would like to see in Egypt is told to shut up. But it is perfectley alright for Netanyahu to beg the west to prop Mubarak up and keep the Egyptian people in bondage? Seems Israelis have a warped sense of justice.
Erdogan has found the right tone & words,- at the right time. I watched a part of his speech on CNN-Türk. He has found the right tone! He is only giving his opinion, whilst Israel is actively trying to support a corrupt & unconstitutional 'Puppet Régime', that doesn't represent the 'will of the Egyptian People'! Israel should instead keep quiet & stop meddling in the internal political Affairs of other Countries! This also includes the political Affairs of the U.S.!!
It very pitty to answer this talkback but its amazing UNLOGICAL You are out of this world. He is elected 2 times with very hi-scored election results I do not like him but he is not Dictator. He is elected. Peace
