Report: Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to quit White House

Washington insiders say top adviser has reached an understanding with the president that he will serve only half the full four-year term.

Raham Emanuel, chief of staff to Barack Obama, is expected to quit his job later this year in growing frustration at the U.S. president's "idealist" policies, a British newspaper reported on Monday.

Although White House chief enjoys a good relationship with Obama, Washington insiders say they have reached an understanding that differences over style mean Emanuel, who is known for his blunt language and combative style, he will serve only half the full four-year term, according to the Daily Telegraph.

"The consensus is he'll go," a leading Democratic consultant in Washington told the paper."I would bet he will go after the mid-terms."

Emanuel, who has an Israeli father and speaks Hebrew, last month traveled to Israel for his son's bar mitzvah, taking time out from his holiday to invite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to talks with Obama in Washington.

The consultant said that while there was a consensus in the White House that Emanuel had reached a dead end, Obama could not be seen to dismiss him and that the chief of staff would likely wait until after November's mid-term congressional elections before leaving.

Emanuel has privately expressed a readiness to run for mayor of Chicago, his home town, the Telegraph said.

It's about Rahm Emanuel pushing through a financial regulartory reform and establishing its new center of operations in Chicago. Then Emanuel announces his candidacy for Mayor of Chicago. If you suspect or don't know why Chicago has been chosen than you should get all your investments out of NYC and Wall Street before the end of this year cause the siphoning sounds Rahm Emanuel,Timothy Geitner and Ben Bernacke will be making on behalf of Obama will not be the Winds Chicago has been accustomed, but rather a cyclonic sucking sound of despair coming from around the world Chicago Time. Not EST,PST, it will be CST. Hosted by the new Mayor himself; the Dishonorable Rahm Emanuel And Democrat. The Dread Machine. AC/ DC Style.

double allegiance in the president's office is unworkable : he is useless or counterproductive if considered a traitor by both sides.

rahm emanuel thinks he can beat richard daley, a 21 year incumbant that everyone loves, with the highest of ties to the mafia, and gets elected by more than 70% of the city in every election since 1989??? a dead richard daley would still beat him. rham emanuel couldn't get elected to anything, even if he were the only one running...what a putz.

A Jew would have a hard time winning because of the antisemitism in Chicago. Any candidate would have a hard time running against Daley. haha - I was thinking about the mafia the other day. I took a course on the mafia and read some good books about the Russian, Italian mafias and the Chicago mafia. Everyone should read these books - quite informing. Also, criminals and the govt. often work parallelly, sometimes against each other, sometimes in coordination, and sometimes they run the govt.

That before Emanuel was named Chief of Staff for President Obama he was a US Representative in Congress right? Elected with 67% support in 2002, re-elected in 2004, 2006, and 2008 at 76%, 78%, and 74%. Seems you're the putz.

    Rahm was always overvalued

There is a difference between pragmatism and political appeasement. Rahm was always for the latter. You don't have to acquiesce to the liberal base, but you should never castigate it and make it seem worthless. Rahm was always after the mythical center and pushed away many of the natural supporters of Obama. No matter what the situation was, even if there was a majority in the House or 60 votes in the Senate, somehow a popular president couldn't push an agenda. That either speaks to the impotence of Obama or the ineptness of his chief of staff.

reformation of U.S. Health Care policy with passing of the bill and during the time of upheaval within the U.S. financial institutions at the start of the administration. It's understandably frustrating that there's been less progress with the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and Mr. Emanuel has taken some of the heat unfairly, perhaps because of his diligence and impatience with some of the players of the region. There remains a period of possible breakthroughs nevertheless in the interim.
