Obama: Osama bin Laden killed in Pakistan by U.S. forces

"Justice has been made," Obama said in a heartfelt address from the White House, as he remembered the close to 3,000 people victims of the 2001 attacks.
The United States first discovered a lead on bin Laden's whereabouts in August 2010, and Obama recounted his meeting with CIA head Leon Panetta, in which he said the capture of the al-Qaida leader was to be a top priority.
Obama said that he and his national security team had met tirelessly for months, until last week when there was enough intelligence to take action.
The U.S. president authorized the operation on the compound where bin Laden was hiding. No civilians or Americans were harmed in the strike, the president said.
Calling this an historic day for both Pakistan and the United States, Obama said that the two countries had in the operation, and that they must also cooperate going forward.
A senior U.S. counterterrorism official said bin Laden had been killed in a ground operation in Islamabad, Pakistan, not by a Predator drone. A senior Pakistani intelligence official also confirmed that bin Laden was killed in Pakistan.
This is a major accomplishment for Obama and his national security team. Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush, had repeatedly vowed to bring to justice the mastermind of the September 11, attacks, but never did before leaving office in early 2009.
Bush lauded the capture of the al-Qaida mastermind, calling it a "momentous achievement."
U.S. officials said that after searching in vain for the al-Qaida leader since he disappeared in Afghanistan in late 2001, the Saudi-born extremist is now dead and his body has been recovered.
He had been the subject of a search since he eluded U.S. soldiers and Afghan militia forces in a large-scale assault on the Tora Bora mountains in 2001. The trail quickly went cold after he disappeared and many intelligence officials believed he had been hiding in Pakistan.
While in hiding, bin Laden had taunted the West and advocated his militant Islamist views in videotapes spirited from his hideaway.
Besides September 11, Washington has also linked bin Laden to a string of attacks - including the 1998 bombings of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and the 2000 bombing of the warship USS Cole in Yemen.

While I have some speculations about "what is Osama bin Laden" I tend to think of him as Saddam Hussein. He is Made in USA terrorist and mastermind who was created to pollute the face of Islam in the west and in the world. Most importantly, Bin Laden has given excuses to the US and its western allies to attack Islamic countries e.g., Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and others for the sake of controlling resources. As a Muslim I am happy to see Bin Laden dead not because the US has killed him but because now we will no longer see his provocative speeches about being the Imam of Muslims. At least, over time, the world will forget his face and his terrorism. My assumption that he is made in USA are derived from common sense. Osama bin Laden has been a very useful tool for the US in many ways including attacking and controlling Muslim countries, spreading anti-Islamism in the whole world, controlling Muslim resources, the manifestation of power and arrogance, etc. He was made by them and then terminated by them, which is good. Muslims now should work hard to clean the legacy of bin Laden and provide a brighter picture of Islam that denounces attacking others in anyway. Perhaps the Arab youth revolutions and the changing political atmosphere in the Arab world could be a timely start for that.

At about 1:20 a.m. local time a Pakistani helicopter was shot down by unknown people in the Sikandarabad area of Abbotabad, China's Xinhua news agency reported, quoting the Geo News. The Pakistani forces launched a search operation in the nearby area and encountered with a group of unknown armed people. A fire exchange followed between the two sides. When the fire exchange ended, the Pakistani forces arrested some Arab women and kids as well as some other armed people who later confessed to the Pakistani forces they were with Osama Bin laden when the fire was exchanged and Bin Laden was killed in the firing. Local media reported that after the dead body of Bin Laden was recovered, two US helicopter flew to the site and carried away the dead body of Bin Laden. Initial reports said that at least one was killed and two others were injured in the crash. At least two houses were engulfed by the huge fire caused by the crashed chopper. Rescue team rushed to the site shortly after the crash was reported and the armed forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation there. Sources of Xinhua said they tried to enter the area after the incident took place, but no media people were allowed inside. "No one knows in that helicopter crash Bin Laden was killed," said the sources.
The news brought a feeling of relief then disbelief when I saw people celebrating like rabid sports fans (the analogy works well - the Military is the team, while the civilians are the fans that go crazy for them). So it appears we shot down a Pakistani helicopter that got too close, then after the operation asked them if they wanted to pretend they were in on it from the start.
