Iran activists cancel Gaza aid flotilla 'due to Israeli threats'

Separate Iranian ship preparing to set sail after Egypt denies Israel request to prevent vessels crossing Suez Canal.

One of the organizers of an Iranian aid flotilla that was to said to Gaza in efforts to break Israel's naval blockade on the territory, announced Thursday that the event has been cancelled due to "Israeli threats."

Iranian aid ship

Iranian ship heading for Gaza from Bandar-Abbas.

A separate Iranian ship carrying 60 Iranian activists was being prepared to sail to Gaza, according to Army Radio. This after the Lebanese media reported several days ago that Egypt has denied Israel's request to prevent Iranian ships from passing through the Suez Canal toward Egypt.

Meanwhile Thursday, the U.S. State Department issued a statement calling the aid flotillas to Gaza irresponsible.

"Mechanisms exist for the transfer of humanitarian assistance to Gaza by member states and groups that want to do so," the U.S. State Department said regarding Lebanese plans to ship aid to Gaza. "Direct delivery by sea is neither appropriate nor responsible, and certainly not effective, under the circumstances."

The Lebanese and Iranian efforts come after a tragic incident aboard a Turkish aid ship, part of an eight-ship Turkish flotilla, which was headed for Gaza on May 31. Israeli navy commandos, intent on preventing the ship from reaching Gaza's shore, boarded the ship, and were met by a violent mob wielding sticks and knives. The clash that ensued resulted in the deaths of nine Turkish activists.

Great news that theyll take the Caspian Sea!

They should send the entire Navy via Caspian sea and never abandon the mission until they find their way to Israel via this smart route. The Iranian Navy at their best. While their brilliant Navigators are busy figuring out how to reach Israel through the Caspian Sea, we can take out their Nuke facilities.

Not a surprise at all, Iran is not as crazy as they claim. Despite all the hype, their militancy is usually directed towards their own citizens. Unlike Israel which is a complete loose canon.

Except as a political statement as the article clearly states: "Mechanisms exist for the transfer of humanitarian assistance to Gaza by member states and groups that want to do so," the U.S. State Department said " So the reality is anybody can send anything that is humanitarian i.e. medicine, medical equipment, food etc., into Gaza as often as they like because a system is in place to deliver it over land into Gaza. But as we all know that isn't the purpose or goal of these "humanitarian" activists, is it? They are have two reasons for their tactics first to give Israel a PR black-eye and secondly to create more access for weapons smuggling. Why people have such a hard time understanding this is bizarre.

    Volga-Don Ship Canal [Volgo-Donskoy Imeni Vladimira Illicha Lenina, or Volgo-Donskoy Sudokhodny Kanal] Volga-Don canal is a part of the United Deep-Water System of Waterways. This canal connects the Volga and the Don and reduced twofold distances between ports of northern and southern seas of the European part of Russia in comparison with the earlier existing way round Europe. The Volga-Don Canal crowned the joining of the five seas: the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the White Sea, the Sea of Azov and the Caspian Sea;

Amid all these discussions, again the absurdity is once again the fact that Israel is so obsessive and paranoid to believe that it is not a simple act of humanitarian aid delivered to the people of Gaza, but as if the sovereignty of the state of Israel ... Hey Israel, it is time to be serious. If you wouldn't let other countries to involve in the process, then do it yourself...

The last thing Hamas needs is an Iranian Invasion. Those 60 "activists" will surely be arrested and sent to prison. Of course Israel does not execute offenders as in Tehran. Let it be clear that any Iranian Regime Ship that approaches Israeli waters will be met by extreme force. The above regime is a declared enemy of the State of Israel. The fiddler regime better find another PR Campaign, the best being, give the people of Iran back their votes and their FREEDOM.

Good job Israel not standing by idle and flexing some muscle.. The next time a TERRORIST flotila come close to your shores, torpedo it and save the lives of our soldiers.

Wel the twist of diplomacy. We were thinking after Mawi Marmara, they was some hope. The change in the stance of Israel. World opinion was against them. They mellowed. We may see some cjhange after 60 tears and after countless deaths on both sides.. You buid we destroy nthat was the motto of every Israeli goverment to date. You give birth we kill that was the other motto.. The Lebanese and the Iranians, despite their obvious animosity towards the enemy state of Israel wanted to jump onto the wagon not wanting to be left behind as champions of the cause and to keep the momentum going now seems to have second thoughts. The resons are not being told, not in explicit language. And they too hide behind diplomatic languages. Not meaning what they really mean. Again we are duped..When will this charade end.Dont anybody speaks the truth anymore.

You can sail from the Caspian to the Black sea through Russia's canals and rivers
    • bronxite10
    • 25.06.10
    • 03:31

Per Wikipedia, the Volga-Don waterway links the Black and Caspian seas The western anchor of the Volga-Don system is the port of Rostov, located near the mouth of the Don River. Roughly 350 kilometers upstream from Rostov lies the Volga-Don Canal, a 60 kilometer-long waterway which links the Don and Volga rivers. The canal joins the Volga near Volgograd. The eastern anchor is the port of Astrakhan, 400 kilometers downstream from Volgograd, near where the Volga enters the Caspian.. Article 5 of the Russian Inland Waterways Act passed by Stalin in 1936 prevents all foreign vessels from using inland waterways. Moscow imposed specific restrictions in 1994 on foreign vessels sailing the Volga-Don Canal. So, the question is not whether you can sail from the Caspian sea to Gaza but rather whether Russia would allow its inland waters to be used for that purpose. It is never a good idea to assume that your adversaries are simply stupid.

Yes, they can threaten by words, but when it comes to action they run away with their tails between their legs. They may be stupid but they're not to the degree that they don't appreciate the hell Israel can unleash upon them if they so provoked it. And with all they trouble the Iranian regime has at home, it will be double trouble. They understood that their actions would be declaration of war and Israel already stated that to the UN.

    • 25.06.10
    • 00:31

This is too hard to believe!!! Could it be that Iran is actually concerned about a massive Naval group passing through the Suez Canal for the Persian Gulf? Could it be that the "massive" buildup of U.S. and Israeli "interests" in Azerbaijian are a source of concern to Iran?? Or could it simply be that Israel and Iran is flanking Iran on its Northern border and on the Persian Gulf side and could lay waste to it from both sides?? Sure Hizballah, Syria, and Gaza based Hamas could launch missiles but that would surely be suicide and they all know it. Have the tables turned on the Terrorist supporters Iran, Syria, and their proxies, Hizballah and Hamas??

If the mighty Iranian regime is not already a laughing stock in Gaza it's because the people there are more consumed watching the football matches in S. Africa. What an international embarrassment for boisterous Dr. of Death Ahmadinejad who sees Gazan children being named after a Turk of all peoples (and not after him) especially when Iranians despise the Turks and speak of them in derogatory terms as lower class people.
