Ahmadinejad: Israel is too weak to attack Iran's nuclear facilities

In an interview with Al-Jazeera, Iranian president says the U.S. is not interested in sparking an all-out military confrontation with Iran.

Israel is too weak to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, the French AFP news agency quoted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as telling the Al-Jazeera network on Sunday, adding that Iran would act decisively against anyone who dared attempt a military strike against it.

Ahmadinejad's comments came a day after Iranian and Russian engineers began the weeklong operation of loading uranium fuel into the Bushehr nuclear power plant, a major milestone as Tehran forges ahead with its atomic program, despite UN sanctions.

Speaking to the Qatari-based satellite network in an interview translated from Farsi, Ahmadinejad reiterated the warning against a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, saying he rejected the "possibility of an attack by Israel."

"Israel is too weak to face up to Iran militarily," the Iranian president said, adding that Jerusalem did not have "the courage to do it... and I do not think its threat is serious."

Referring to the possibility of a U.S.-led strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, Ahmadinejad claimed "America is not interested in sparking a military confrontation," but vowed "decisive response" if Washington indeed went ahead with its threats military action.

"There are no logical reasons for the United States to carry out such an act,"   Ahmadinejad told Al-Jazeera.

"Do you believe an army that has been defeated by a small army in Iraq can enter into a war with a large and well trained army like the Iranian army?" he asked, referring to the insurgents in Iraq.

"The friendship of Iran is much better than its hostility," he said.

The Al-Jazeera interview came hours after a high-ranking officer in Iran's Revolutionary Guards told the semi-official Fars news agency that Iran's reaction to a possible U.S. military strike against its nuclear facilities would target American interests beyond the Middle East.

Speculating on the possibility of a U.S. strike against Iran's developing nuclear program, Deputy Revolutionary Guards Commander for Political Affairs Brigadier General Yadollah Javani said earlier Sunday that "if Americans make a strategic mistake and choose the military option against the Islamic Republic and our nation's interests, Iran will not confine its defense to the region."

"In case of any illogical move, the Islamic Republic's hands and advocates will be powerfully activated against the interests of the hegemonic system and U.S. bases outside the region," Javani told Fars.

Earlier this month, Javani had commented on the possibility of a U.S. strike of its nuclear facilities, saying that Iran would "give a crushing response to its enemies."

Turning his attention to Israel, Javani had that Iran did not believe its enemy was capable of attacking. Nonetheless, he said, Iran would be prepared in case that equation should change. "Iran never ignores its enemies. Hence, we have been increasing our defense and deterrence capabilities."

This new long trange Drone bomber has a range of 620 miles. Not far enough to hit ISrael which means it must be transported. It has a payload of 500 pounds. It is reputed to be able to carry four stealth cruise missiles. Well any cruise missile In know is well over 500 pounds. It does loojkm alot like teh old German Ww2 Buzz Bombs. It does not appear to be solid fuel buyt who knows. It needs a booster to staqrt off. This is another iranian piece of bluster and rhetoric. to make the Infiodels shake in tehir boots. Long range indeed. 520 miles is not long range.

    • 22.08.10
    • 20:47

I don't see a US military strike in the cards. The US is more concerned about nuclear weapons in Pakistan than in Iran. Besides an attack against a third Muslim country would bolster insurgent claims that America not only hates Muslims in America but intend to wipe Muslims off the face of the earth one country at a time A resurgent militaristic Iran is a result of the war in Iraq. When the US invaded Iraq, the message it sent to Iran was clear. Develop nuclear weapons as fast as you can. You are next. The invasion allowed them to do just that. Prior to US removal of Sadaam Hussien, Iraq and Iran were mortal enemies having fought an 8 year war against each other that depleted the cash reserves of both countries. After Sadaam's ouster, Iraq's Shiites , now in control, reunited with their Iranian brothers across the border. The result. With no enemy at it's doorstep Iran reaped a huge peace dividend. They've used the savings to build up an impressive military capability. Had the US not toppled Sadaam, Iran would still be devoting huge portions of their military budget to countering a conventional threat from Iraq rather than building a nuclear arsenal and other weapons of mass destruction. With Iraq out of the picture, Iran will soon be another nuclear state ...and the advantage will go to Iran.

When u ask moderate iranians where they come from, they all say that they are from Persia. they clearly feel uneasy with the policies of their own country and they want to be a part of modern world. (on the other hand, Persian king Cyrus had saved jews from slavery. so historically there is no obstacle for jews to be a friend of Iran. :) ) So it is time for Iran to be Persia again which is in peace with all its neighbours. And of course if Israel wants to prevent Iran from being agressive, it should have a look to the mirror. Nuke free Middle-east is the only way for a consistent peace.

While the mainstream press seems to only write about this battle as if it is the U.S./Israel, against, countries like Iran, Syria or Hezbollak/Lebanon. The dirty little secret is the Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE etc., want the U.S. and Israel to bomb the crap out of Iran. They fear Iran as much if not more than Israel. They cannot however state this publicly, without incurring the wrath of their own "Arab street". But behind closed doors, it is well known, that these governments fear Iran, and want its nuke program halted.

Israel is tiny, far and ineffective to face Iran. What about the US? It is bankrupt. Morally broken for its defeat in Iraq and now in Afghanistan. The US can not and will not fight another war. If it does, it will be a suicide calling for its full disintegration and demise. The US mission or the US crusade against Islam has been cut short by Arabs in Iraq and by Muslims in Afghanistan. The US is now fighting for its survival and continuation economically and socially.

If a non nuclear Iran is threatening that they will retaliate beyond the Middle East think what an Iran armed with nukes and long range missiles could do. Already their missiles can hit some parts of western Europe and they are trying to develop ICBM capability so give it a couple of years they might have the potential to fire conventional and possibly even nuclear missiles at mainland America if they want revenge. Iran might even have enough weapons grade uranium to build a nuke because they have been enriching uranium in their increasing number of centrefuges for about 5 years now. The idea they are a year away is probably based more on White House facts rather than from what the intelligence agencies think because Obama is determined nothing is done except talk so if Iran is at least a year away from a nuke then plenty of time to keep talking without feeling under any pressure to use force. The US is capable of launching a massive ariel assult on Iran right now they could destroy Irans entire military as well as its nuclear sites meaning Irans no threat to anybody and make sure Iran is neither a nuclear or conventional military threat to anybody for the next 20 years.

Russia can solve the Iranian problem
    • Logios
    • 22.08.10
    • 19:05

There is something self-contradictory in Russia's behavior. On the one hand she objects to Iran enriching Uranium even to the low 3.5% level for power plants, and on the other hand supplies Iran with such processed product which allows Iran to keep her stock of Uranium. A good solution for the contradiction would be for Russia to demand from Iran partial payment "in kind" for future reactors it will build, that is, pay for the fuel bars by giving to Russia the enriched Uranium used to produce them. This should be acceptable to Iran, after all, they claim that their Uranium is enriched to serve as fuel. The fact is that Iran does not have enough Uranium to run many power plants, so they will run out of the stuff soon enough. Problem solved.

Iran has an aging air force , ironically they have American built planes that they can't get parts for them .. Their defenses even with the S300 are no match for US stealth technology and other goodies that would demolish Iran within a week , And those long range drones by a country who probably stole or bought the technology fro a 3rd world country ? would not get beyond Iranian airspace along with their useless speedboats that would be decimated SA missiles and the phalanx guns aboard Naval ships .. A-jad like Saddam talk the talk along with great propaganda skills, with exceptional false bravado , a trait that is all too common with muslim dictators ,,And finally ,The good people of Iran would turn on their Ayatollahs /government in an instant and help US forces defeat their government , The Majority of Iranians are fed up with their leaders , Iran is ripe for a regime change and if the events that followed the past elections are any indications , where A-Jad and the supreme ayatollah rigged the elections , the Iranian people would gladly help the US ..

As if Iran should be allowed nukes. ha! all I can say is, its wonderful that Israel has her nukes. It's precisely because Israel has had them and the arabs have not had them that until now WW3 has been avoided. Israel wisely attained nuclear power decades ago and should NEVER give hers up...However, if we can prevent further proliferation anywhere in the world, then at least were not creating MORE nukes and that's a good thing. Israel has proven over and over again that it is a completely responsible nation with her nuclear power...attacked how many times since the 50's and they still never used them or threatened to use them? What is MORE worrisome is North Korea, Pakistan, India, and some lesser former Russian states. But make no mistake, allowing iran nuclear weapons, is a recipe for global disaster as not seen before, and all of you who advocated for their right to have them will ALSO be paying the price. But as I have always said, your Jew hate is so strong that you would actually imperil yourselves if it meant you could get at Israel. Now I call that anti Semitism. No misapplied labels either. The shoe fits. Perfectly. THAT is reality and thanks to you, and many others, people and countries, it's all coming soon to a theatre near you. literally.

pertaining to Iran and involving the only country on Planet Earth Israel has a hope to manipulate into attacking Iran on their behalf on the assumption that Iran might, sometime in the future threaten Israel's nuclear monopoly in the Middle East. The day after Iran anwith the aid of Russia began to fire up Bushehr, making it an official nuclear site. Which under International Law makes it illegal to attack it. In the face of Netanyahu's promises to the Israeli electorate that Bushehr would never come online. Interesting times, and a hysterically funny Israeli response.

Iran attacked Iraq and was willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of its youth, ages 12+, in order to clear Iraqi mine fields, designed to keep the Iranians from taking over Iraqi territory. Also, Iran is one of the largest sponsors of state sponsored terrorism throughout the Middle East, and beyond. In addition, the Hitler of Iran has stated, on dozens of occasions, that he'd be willing to sacrifice half the population of Iran in order to eliminate Israel. I have a tendency to believe this Adolph Hitler protege, and the seventh century throwback mullahs who direct every move he makes or says.

Iran is the sponsor of worldwide terror. If you would pull off the burka and open your eyes, you would see that. Whether an aggressor by proxy or by self, IT'S STILL AN AGGRESSOR. The world knows this. The only ones who deny are the libs and west haters.

I can't honestly find much of any kind of provokations from Iran more than as reactions of threats made by USA and/or Israel. All i hear is a bunch of loudmouths from aswell Israel, USA and Iran. But there are only two nations that actually are threatening the third with a first strike. Those two countries are USA and Israel. So i must ask, from where does the real threat come from when it's obviously not from Iran? As someone said earlier; If you don't want another war, then don't start it. It's simple as that. Paranoia is not a valid reason for starting wars and killing civilians.

If Iran struck at the US, the Iranian nations would be competely destroyed. Everyone in Iran knows that. So shut the f# up Javanin, you'll be first to go.

Unnecessary provocation. Everybody already knows this. During the days leading up to the American invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi officials made similar claims. It is better for Iran to remain silent and remove the stigma of an attack on Iran having any similarity to the attack on Iraq.
