The thing is you israelies donnot understand that we are people asking for our rights. It is our right to get our prisoners and it is our right to have our land back which both you are rejecting to give us. To solve the problem of Hizbollah in Lebanon, although i dont call it a problem, you should give us our rights. No peace can be built on surrender because people with pride and people who aren't afraid to die will stand one day and fight no matter what are the sacrifices. This is why i advice you israelians give us our rights and things would be better for you, and if u constantly reject to give us our rights the end will be soon to your country and be sure of that.
So in a few days we will have the Prime Minister of Israel holding up a piece of paper and saying "peace in our time". But it will be a false peace. Hezbollah will remain armed to the teeth. The Katushas will be replaced by longer range rockets N of the Litani where there will be no "observers". Its just a matter of time before war breaks out again at a much greater cost. Israel will pay a high price for this appeasment. Lets just hope and pray for new leaders with courage in Isreal.

The problem with stopping "this" war is that we are stopping a war that has never ended since 1982. After Hezbollah has been preparing for war with Israel for six years, Lebanon has been complicit with the terriorist entity inside it's borders. The world is poised to initiate a new peace between Israel and a terrorist entity (in the name of Lebanon) before the mandate of UN resolution 1559 has not been enforced. If 1559 had been enforced by the "host country", 700 Lebanese lives would have been saved. Lebanon must be held accountable to act like a responsible nation of the world and cease relying on a terrorist organization within its borders to provide for the needs of its people. Israel should not accept any new UN structured peace agreement until 1559 is enforced, arms from Syria and Iran are no longer distributed within Lebanon, and Lebanon takes responsibility for its sovereignty.
To Jack and Andy: Your total incapability to grasp the situation in Israel and Lebanon is frightening! In addition to that, I cannot imagine someone, in a forum such as this, denegrating their own leadership! Shame on you Jack for that one and you Andy for your arrogance. If you cannot realise that this situation today is the result of one government's lack of ability to police its own and two other governments' desire to bring about the downfall of another entirely different government. Israel, to defend itself, has done what it has to do to safeguard the lives of its people. Death and destruction come about during a war, but peace is the result of it and that's what everyone wants. When objectives are achieved, that peace will be more fruitful than if it were forced right now. Every day I switch on the television and I see that innocent people is dieing in this conflict. This is simply not possible to stand any more. The international community is sleeping again! One day prevail the French vision, the following day the American one, and in Lebanon and Israel people keep on dieing. The "bigs" of the world are meeting, they discuss about how many days, or hours or months this conflict has to continue and people, again, keep on loosing their life. Please stop it! Please! I hope that after an immediate ceasefire Israel, Hezbollah, the Lebanese government, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Giordania, the Palestine Authotity, the Us and all the other actors involved int the Middle East Chrisis will sit down (this time without people dieing during the discussion) and start to work seriously for a wide spread peace in the interest of everybody. If this won't happen nobody will prevail in a long term. I pray for peace everyday.

I'm taking a chance by posting to an israeli board because it is acrime in Syria to contact the enemy but I's a chance worth taking. I want to say to the people of israel that it is time that you think about making REAL peace. Ending the conflict with the Arabs is within reach and has been since 1948. Give the land back, come to accept taht you can never have everything and you can never drive the palis out of the west bank and Gaza. What is the point in contining to occupy Gaza, the west bank and the Golan? The Arabs have made a very generous offer some years back in Beirut simply return the lan and be recognized by all arab states. Please ask yourself how can ever think that the state of israel can continue to surivie if your army kills people every single day in the occupied lands? This ongoing killing lays the foundation for more future wars. End the occupation and live in peace. Live in peace so that you can drive on a weekend to have a cup of coffee in downtown damascus.

The arab media is very objective and reflects the conflict from both sides, when rockets hit Haifa or Beirut the arabic media reports both rocket targets. But when I read Israeli journals or follow their channels I'm surprised. They don't mention the massacres in Lebanon and they don't report that over 900 lebanese civilians-among them 300 children and 300 women- have died since the war started. They only report the israeli losses, maybe they talk little about Lebanon but not much. Why are the israeli journals and channels hiding the truth from its own people?? I hope the israeli people turn on the arabic newschannels for more objectivity.

It is obvious to the world that Hizballah is a murderer. They pose as civilians in order to kill innocent Lebanese. Nasrallah is the SATAN of humanity his purposes in life is to destroy...hopefully he will be destryoed. he is using innocent civilians to recruit more murderers like himself and to promote anti-Israeli sentiment. i don't know about you, but i strongly doubt that israel will achieve any victory, and im not only talking about the military side. what the israreli govt only succeeded in doing is to further isolate the state from its surronding neighbours. you may have the cover of the actual regimes in the region but these are doomed to go , people stay and those never forget.

Israel is doing all it can to return their hostages safely home and to end the rain of missles being sent to Israel each day from civilian houses in souther Lebannon. Every target planned by Israel is connected to Hizbollah. There's a lot to discuss...but even though, who can argue self-defense out of its territory? who can argue 'errors' after bombing a UN peace mission deliberatedly (10 UN warnings answered by the IDF during 6 hours)? is that UN soldiers are human shields? after so many years of selective murders in Palestine... so many 'errors'? Hezbollah is a terrorist group and a danger but, does it give permission to Israel to kill civilians, whatsoever if its true or not they are used as human shields? if IDF cannot fight Hezbollah without so many 'errors', may still be considered as a defense force? The answer is obviously NO to all those questions. Please, don't be stoburn and if need help from international community, ask BEFORE. There's no excuse to kill civilians. I am an American, beginning the process to convert to Judaism. And I have been watching with interest the war AND the cause for the current hostilities. How many people here who are opposed to the Israeli action, if your family member was taken by a kidnapper, would stand back and do nothing? Should Israel merely do nothing and allow the illegal activities of Hezbollah to continue? From the beginning, if Hezbollah had returned the soldiers they kidnapped, there would be no continued war. Israel acted in defense. And there is nothing wrong with defending ones self or ones citizens/family. As stated in a previous post by another, Israel is the only nation ever to attack AFTER warning the citizens where they would be bombing, allowing them time to leave. Those who fail to heed the warning could have left. If Hezbollah laid down its weapons there would be peace. If israel laid down its weapons, there would be no Israel.

We need to make a distinction between cease-fire and peace. A cease fire means both sides stop shooting, and peace means shooting will not start. These are two distinct concepts with thier own distinct requirements. At this moment, the requirements for a cease fire appear to be impossible. Isreal demands return of the soldiers and hebollah to withdraw. hezobollah demands Israel withdraw first. If niether side will acquiesce, then there will be no cease fire. In the future, the requirement for cease fire can, and probably will change. With enough of hezbollah disarmed and pushed back a resonable distance from the border, Israel will scale back thier major offensive. Although there will still be small arms confrontations. This situation will have to suffice for a "cease fire". Israel will scale back the major offensive, and hezbollah will continue to attack in it's reduced capacity. Israel has all the right in the world to defend itself from attacks. However, they should be proportional to the attacks. Many innocent civilians has been killed during this latest conflict starting with the capture of 2 IDF soldiers. Was it worth it? Several hundred died for two soldiers. A proportional attack would have been to capture Hisbollah fighters and to use them for bargaining a release of the soldiers. Even the pounding of Hisbollah strong holds is understandable. But not the indiscriminate bombing of all of Lebanon. It looks to me that Israel becomes more isolated and Hisbollah gains popularity as the bombing continues.

I dont like that israel is destroying lebanon, but they are a country that was attacked, and hizbollah attacked them, trying to kill civilians. they droped leaflets on us, warned us to leave, and only targets hizbollah areas. those who know history know that no other army does that or has done that. As A Christian, we were always accused that we are supporting israili. i would like to note that i feel shame that someone being lebanese is supporting the israili while they are destroying the country without any mercy. and i would say to Ahmad that Hizboullah is not a terrorist organization, and shame on you again. those people have dedicated their life to a noble cause and they have created an equilibrium with the israili state, that the israili bythem self admited it. as for the israili, am sure that we can live together. jews were always living in peace in the muslims and arab countries, and were always existing here and living among us. My doctor is a jewish Lebanese and he uses to be my neighbors in Lebanon. but the jeish state keep on forgeting that the jewish community has suffered in Europe under the christian era more that they have suffered under the muslims and the arab states.
By the way, just because you draw those conclusions does not mean that you are correct, only that those are your conclusions, so don't think to highly of them. Also, do not forget that the Hizallah has killed innocent people, destroyed infrastruture,etc. as well. Israel is not fighting the Lebonese people but the terrorist organization that has held it capitive, ie Hizballah. How deeply can you look inside a story when it is highly unlikely you are even familiar with the entire situation. Only a fool would draw conclusion in isolation. First of all, I am neither desperate nor Jewish, I have plenty of friends (amongst whom are jewish and muslim) and any cause that I have is to hopefully lend some objectivity to the topic. That is great that you read both sides' paper, etc. however articles from both sides may in fact be bias to their respective sides. It seems to me that there can be no permanent resolution to the matter as long when terrorist actions are taken by a group that operates on the false pretense of expelling Israel from land, since Israel has withdrawn to the Internationally recognized border, a border with Hizballah violated to kidnap soldiers in an effort to release criminals. The unfortunate aspect is that civilians have been killed. But how can Israel be held accountable when the Hizballah hides among and blends in with civilians. Hizballah violates ALL codes of war and in doing so is responsible for their deaths. Hizballah is dead wrong!!!

Did you feel threatened or terrorized when you lived in Israel? Of course not since you probably have never been there. Why is it that Israel is the most liberal society in the middle east and has upheld its peace aggreements (ie. Egypt and Jordan) while other governments in the middle east oppress their own people and fund terrorism and yet you claim that they are terrorists?... Since you have likely never been to Israel and only believe what you see on TV and read on the internet, why don't you quit conjecturing on a subject you know nothing about.
Perhaps you should get your facts straight. Israel attacked the Hizballah who were lauching attacks from the UN Post in the same way those cowards launch attacks from densly populated villages knowing that a justified retalliation from Israel will result in the unfortunate deaths of innocent civilians. the UN observers were powerless to stop the Hizballah, nor did they have the authority to. Far from Brazil, we clearly see the radicals from Hezbollah and Hamas manipulating its own people and using them as a shield to theier sick policy. Reading your comments without naming the two societies tells me this: The Lebanese people (especially in southern Lebanon) have fought occupiers since the Crusaders, Ottoman empire, Colonial France and recently Israel, and yet they are still there... They want to live freely. Israel on the other hand, is a "state of terror" that terrorizes civilians in the north, destructs their infrastructures, hospitals, schools and kills innocent people "civilly" (...). True, Hizballah is running amock in Lebanon, but don't forget that this isn't an isolated issue -- it's a war for land and life and rights that began in the early 20th Century and was catalyzed by the founding of the state of Israel without consideration of the others for whom that land was home. Deep issues have not been addressed and as long as there are frustrations in Palestine, there will be problems in the entire region. Nothing new here. And you also forget that Lebanon has its fair share of internal problems, Hizballah (with its massive popular support, I should add) being only one of them. All this factors into the very complicated algorithm that keeps the violence cycling. God help us overcome it.

I pray that more people could see your point of view and truth. I am glad you spoke out, and are sharing it with us .I am thrilled to see that there are people out there that do not let hate into their world. I wish you and your family best of health. I hope that Israel can free your country from this terror, and I am deeply sorry for the pain, hurt, suffering you are all going through. Keep on praying for peace, and stay positive. My country is being destroyed...not by Israel...but by my own government. My government failed to keep Hezbollah out and failed to keep weapons used for terrorism out. My government pulled the wool over its people's eyes. We were all set up for doom with the Israelis. Israel is surrounded by enemies...what are they supposed to do? And let's say Israel agreed to the original prisoner exchange. That exchange does not get rid of Hezbollah or its weapons. So, this was going to happen now or down the road. Wake up people. Radical Muslims are the ones to blame...not the Muslims who follow the real Koran.

Whatever the outcome of this whole war which ever side declares victory whether Huzbola or Israel at the end of it all Lebanon as a country as a people turns out to be the biggest loser. The death, destruction and misery of many caused by the whole war is a massive blow to Lebanon as whole. To those who are cheering on Huzbolla, just remember one thing due to Huzbolla actions Lebanon has been reduced to rubble. Huzbola has been humiliated, just by the fact that Israeli soldiers have taken up positions in Lebanon AGAIN. To those who are cheering on the Israeli offensive, till now the IDF have been humiliated. At the end of the war even if the 400 prisoners are swapped for the 2 Israeli soldiers, nothing will ever replace the 400 already dead Lebanese innocent civilians. Nothing will replace the homes and memories of the many displaced Lebanese.
If you base your judgments on facial looks, then i advise you to take a look at the israeli "soldiers"( if you consider those kids as soldiers)facial expressions after ground combats. After 14 days of heavy bombardment and air strikes on every inch in the south of lebanon, your army is still unable to declare victory in any of those small towns.If i were you i would start praying for a seize fire, before they start calling the reserves that range from 12 to 17 years old.
