IDF to seal off West Bank for the duration of Passover

Closure is in keeping with the Israeli practice of securing West Bank ahead of Jewish festivals.

Israel will close off the West Bank from Midnight Sunday until midnight, April 6, for the duration of Passover holiday, the Israeli military spokesman announced Sunday morning.

However, persons needing medical attention will be allowed to enter Israel, and humanitarian aid, as well as doctors, NGO workers and lawyers will can enter the West Bank.

The closure is in keeping with the Israeli practice of sealing off the West Bank ahead of Jewish festivals, fearing militants might try to launch attacks to disrupt the festivities.

On March 27, 2002 a Hamas suicide bomber killed 30 people and injured 140 more, when he blew himself up in an Israeli hotel at the beginning of the traditional Passover feast.

Passover, which commemorates the Exodus of the Israelis from Egypt, begins this year at sundown Monday, and ends at Sundown, Tuesday April 6.

I am not learned as i should be. But Israel should take every safety consideration and put them in place to protect Israeli citizens who are celebrating their passover. This is a perfect time to do much damage by Israels enemys. Make every measure you feel needed to insure safety for your citizens. I would. I love you Israel and Pray for you often and your Holy city Jeresalem. Again, you have my prayers to the God of Abraham Issac and Jacob. Thank you.

So a fellow Muslim assassinated King Abdallah. A fellow Jew assassinated Rabin. And what does a war have to do with one terrorist's action upon a group of innocent people? I was trying to respond to your post that not only Palestinians committed terrorist acts on Jews during a holiday, so did Jews upon Palestinians. Stick to the point. Do not jump all over the map. It makes you look as if you were suffering from ADHD.

February 25 1994, during Purim and Ramadan, Baruch Goldstein killed 29 worshippers and wounded 150. There is a plaque near his grave, a site of veneration, reading: "To the holy Baruch Goldstein, who gave his life for the Jewish people, the Torah and the nation of Israel." During Purim 2000 admirers gathered at his grave dressed as Goldstein, wearing lab coats, false beards and armed with guns. So who likes to massacre celebrants during holidays?

"I`ve a question: is the border with Jordan closed down during the period too? If not, then why use the term "sealed"?" - Mike from Brno where ever that is. And what do you imply Mike since there is no rational basis for your question? Jordan is NOT territory occupied by Israel. Jordan is a nation which has a peace treaty with Israel and normal diplomatic relations. Jordan is not an enemy of Israel because Israel and Jordan have agreed to recognize each other and treat each other as sovereign nations. Israel continues to occupy - brutally - the West Bank. Thus Israel has to fear that some in the West Bank might at any chance strike back against their oppressors. Do you not understand why Israel need NOT close the border with Jordan by has every reason to fear not closing it's border with the West Bank? I think you do not have a clue about realty Mike. Does 'Brno' have any borders with any nation in the real world? Does it oppress any people who might resist it's domination?

I doubt if there was any thought given to the religious practices of Arab Christians.

The PA sent someone to murder an entire room of people at the Park Hotel during the Seder and then declared him a hero. So now they are being kept away from civilized people during the holidays. No sane person would be surprised or offended to hear that, but then anti-semites are not sane.

Which major religion marks it's holidays with murderous attacks? Which major religion celebrates OTHER religions' holidays by attacking those non-co-religionists? Which major religion is the source of ALL of international terrorism? And piracy on the high seas? And slavery? And trading women? Israel protects itself from murdering, genocidal, racist terrorists when they are most prone to strike innocents. This should not surprise anyone. The astounding thing is that Israel ALLOWS members of that religion into Israel pretty freely most every day of the year! Israel does so much more freely than the USA or EU states do at airports on ANY day of the year. That should be the headline!

Settlers can abuse ... "pay check" and attack villagers while the IDF helps... but of-course we are told that west bank is free and not annexed... Guess what its sealed and controlled and anything that gets angry and hits back is criminal ... any settler that kills is legal.

When Palestinian Christians ally themselves with Muslim's and also engage in rock throwing & rioting, it's sort of hard to differentiate between those Christians that throw rocks and riot and those that don't It seems that Palestinian's saw fit to commemmorate one of our Holidays, in the following manner, that's why Israel enforces strict security Maybe one day, you'll come over in person, instead of just pretending expertise from behind your keyboard? "On March 27, 2002 a Hamas suicide bomber killed 30 people and injured 140 more, when he blew himself up in an Israeli hotel at the beginning of the traditional Passover feast." "

Israel is treating the population of the occupied territories like prisoners. They seal off the West Bank, but they don't hamper the settlers to steal palestinian land and mistreat the indigenious population. Israel must be aware that teh world is watching and will no longer tolreate the disregard of international laws and human rights.
