IDF soldiers kill Israeli Arab who tried to ram into checkpoint

Soldier lightly hurt by car; troops opened fire after car broke through checkpoint, striking soldier.

Israel Defense Forces troops on Tuesday morning shot and killed an Israeli Arab who tried to ram his car into a soldier at a checkpoint outside the West Bank settlement of Beitar Ilit, Army Radio reported Tuesday.

One soldier was lightly hurt when he was hit by the man's car at the checkpoint south of Jerusalem. After the man hit the soldier, troops opened fire on his car killing the man.

Magen David Adom paramedics were summoned to the scene, but were not able to revive the driver, who died at the scene.

The IDF Central Command has opened an investigation into the incident.

Despite talk over a construction freeze in the West Bank, the ultra-Orthodox Betar Ilit in recent weeks has begun advance infrastructure work of what appears to be the creation of a new neighborhood.

While the construction site falls within the municipal boundaries of the settlement, it is on a hill outside the current built-up area of the town.

It appears that at least several dozen housing units are to be built on the site.

After the 1st couple of people attempting to run a check point that issue should bring them to a total end. They should not have to chase down criminals. Imagine if it was Iraq and an American naming the check point. I bet that you would have a hard time identifying the car let alone the person afterwards.

what his ethnicity was, that couldn't be determined since he was INSIDE the car He got what anyone would have gotten, instant retaliation for attempted murder Racism, hardly, let's just call it what it was, an act of Self Defense against attempted murder by the driver

No dear fellow, not even a smidgeon of truth in your statement, just your usual Israel bashing However, if you wish, feel free to make the trip, rent a car, and try repeating the Arab's stunt, then you'll have what to comment on (If you survive the expereience)

Forget the old cowboy movies that you're used to, where the good guy shot the gun out of the bad guy's hand, that's fantasy In real life, a soldier is trained to KILL his enemy, not to tickle him Reaction to threats are instantaneous, it's kill or be killed Poor sap tried to kill an IDF soldier and got what he intended for others, let's just call it "Suicide by soldier"

Swiss(Dingo) The car had yellow plates, The Soldiers had no way to know if he was an Arab, a Muslim, a Christian, a Druze or a Jew! In other words if it were a Jew, he would be shot, and if the soldier in the checkpoint has a telescope you can be sure he would be killed just with one bullet from a distance of 300m. In General the probability of a driver of a car carrying yellow plates being Jewish is more then 80%, lucky for us, Jews are more patient then our cousins, and don`t try intentionally to ram into soldiers with guns, even if they have a bad day! Have I answered your question Swiss?

After the man hit the soldier with his car and rammed through the checkpoint. I am not aware of IDF soldiers have sensors implanted in their bodies to detect which car belongs to a Jew or a non Jew. The IDF would have responded in the same way under any situation. Unfortunately, this incident feeds into what many in the far right are saying about the Israeli Arab community within Israel. Some of the bleeding hearts here are race baiting!

Even if they survive and are transported to a military hospital. Not even Talibs, the wounded allied Afghani soldiers are allowed to die if thir wounds are deemed to lead to "deteririation of their quality of life after recovery". Source : Danish newspapers ,quoting Danish military doctors in Afghanistan defending their practice of doing everything to nurse wounded NATO soldiers but not doing the same for Afghani soldiers ,let alone Talibs. No longer than about 3 weeks ago. So stop playing Mother Theresa ,Israel is much more humane than GB.

Swiss you are quite right. Next time I go to Switzerland I will ram my car into a policeman and see what happens. You will be able to collect the flowers from my grave, you fool. Isn't it amazing how dim witted the Pal supporters are?

Sam:"I am just wondering if these solders are very scared and incompetent manning these check points or just look for any reason to kill unarmed civilians?which happen to be Arabs or Palestinians all the time." If someone rams a checkpoint with their vehicle you kill them. Why? Because a car is a lethal weapon, you take them out before they take out you. What if the car had rammed the checkpoint then blown up killing many other people? Do you think the soldiers should just wait to see if that would happen?

    • 13:07

When arab approach a check point, they should take into account that their lifes can be switched off, depending on the mode of the soldiers. The soldiers have not to worry about the consequences: they have to just to say: he looks like/ or going to be a terrorist. To ensue a probe is unrealistic and too expensive, not even when 1500 arabs, like in Gasa, are killed.

They should have asked Judge(sic) Goldstone for permission to shoot. Alternatively, they should have sat him down, offered him coffee and negotiated a peace treaty with him. After all, what damage can a 2 ton car do to a soldier?

It seems to be very rare in such incidents for the Pal to be just wounded and incapacitated. They always seem to be very dead. Which is generally unusual, since in combat the proportion of dead to wounded is generally about 1 to 2. I just wondered how many bullets they used on him, and whether they fired into him afterwards to make sure he was dead, like with that girl.

He either would have been manning the checkpoint (since so many of us serve our country and our nation as soldiers) or we would have waited our turn, as we do every single day as we go through checkpoints. But you know that already. We will not tolerate Arab terror.
