IDF soldier lightly hurt as tank overturns in Golan training accident
Accident occurs at training field near Katzrin; Other soldiers emerge from tank unharmed.
By Amos Harel and Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Golan Heights Israel news IDFA soldier from Brigade 188 of the Armored Corps was injured lightly Monday in a training accident in the Golan Heights.
The accident occurred at a training field near Katzrin after a Merkava tank entered a ditch and rolled over onto its side.
One of the soldiers was injured in the accident, while the rest of the soldiers inside got out of the tank unharmed.
The Israel Defense Forces said its Northern Command would investigate the incident.
In November last year, two soldiers were killed in separate accidents involving army vehicles.
Staff Sergeant Yariv Amitai was killed when his army vehicle overturned near the Gaza border.
Sergeant-Major Asaf Waxman was killed when he was crushed to death while driving an armored personnel carrier. A military police probe found that Waxman had received no training on driving such a vehicle, nor did four other soldiers who were lightly to moderately injured when the APC overturned.
