IDF soldier and cop hurt in East Jerusalem clashes

Soldier moderately wounded after stabbed during bus check in Shoafat; officer hurt as youth hurl rocks.

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was stabbed in his neck and moderately wounded on Monday when he boarded a bus for a routine checkup near the Shoafat checkpoint in East Jerusalem.

Paramedics evacuated the soldier to the Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem, with the knife still lodged in his neck.

The soldier had just begun to inspect the bus when one of the passengers suddenly rose from his seat and attacked him with the knife.

The suspect was immediately detained for questioning.

Shortly after the incident, Palestinian youth began hurling rocks and burning cartons and trash in the streets of Shoafat. One Israeli officer was lightly wounded in the incident, and seven suspects were detained for questioning.

The violence spread to the outskirts of Ramallah, where about 50 Palestinian teenagers took cover behind trucks and cars while hurling rocks at Israeli soldiers, who reporters saw responding by firing tear gas and rubber bullets.

Five months ago, an IDF soldier was stabbed on a bus in the central Israeli city of Ramat Gan.

In that incident, the soldier told emergency rescue personnel at the scene that an Arab had stabbed him and fled. The soldier was taken to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv where he was described as being in moderate condition.

Most of these types of attacks have taken place over the past year in the West Bank and Jerusalem. There are many thousands of illegal residents from the West Bank inside the Green Line, and on occasion, they have been involved in such incidents.

Pressure exerted by the IDF on the Palestinian Authority and Hamas in the West Bank has led to reduced involvement of the latter in attacks, but more such acts being perpetrated by lone assailants.

Security officials have said such attacks are on the rise and are acts of revenge for the killing of more than 1,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip during Operation Cast Lead.

which all of the politicians fell over themselves to accomodate. Police were injured there too. I do not think either are right--but why would they not be handled in the same way.

You obviously have your own little definition of the word terrorism. To most, it means attacks on civilian noncombatants, but you seem to extend it to the killing of a soldier in enemy territory during time of war. What are your criteria? Is it terror whenever a Jew is attacked? whenever the Palestinians are doing the attacking? whenever you dont like what happened? Your apparent definition renders the term meaningless. Please enlighten us as to the meaning of the word "terrorism" and how it applies to an attack on a soldier on duty during time of war!!? Do you deny that the Palestinians have the right to fight back while Israel is starving, harassing, threatening and attacking Palestinians while illegally occupying Palestinian territory?

No one is going to be fooled by official Israeli hasbara over this. Fanatic Jews should not be allowed any where near the Mosque compound since we all know what they are up to. It`s quite astonishing to read here the many comments by die hard deluded Zionists who keep refering to the Mosque as `mount`. Well, let me tell you something you never read in official Zionist narrative. The handful of Jews or so who had lived in the old city of Jerusalem since the Arab conquest in the 7th century A.D never bothered with the area until the late 16th century. Previous generations of Jews who visited or resided in the city had never made any attempt at praying near the Mosque. Until the 1920`s, Jews never prayed near the site and only started demanding access after the arrival of the British in 1918 to the part of the wall of the Mosque where the current Western Wall stands. The entire history of a Jewish link to the city is a fabrication. Jerusalem is as Arab as Paris is F

TC. I think ur going a bit too far on this one. no need for a massive assault to cost more lives of my soldiers. Just need to employ a zero tolerance policy and jail the attacker on the spot for 30 years - no parole and no trial. now i know ppl will go mad with me for being extreme but when they are caught they get 10 months in jail and released before that so thats why they do it.. jail them on the spot and u will see it will stop. Same applies to the little kids in England who think knives are cool

I can already hear the echoes of Zionist apologists bemoaning this horrible act of "terrorism." In fact, it is not terrorism at all, but an attack on a legitimate military target. If an IDF wants to live in peace, he should stay in his own country, even if it means being jailed for refusing to follow orders. The IDF routinely attacks and kills Palestinians it suspects are combatants. The Palestinians have the right to reciprocate. The IDF even denies it has engaged in terrorism when it kills civilian noncombatants, yet declares all attacks on Israelis - including IDF - as terrorism. The essential element of terrorism is not that the targets are Jews but that they are civilian noncombatants. In this regard, the IDF is a much worse terrorist organization than any Palestinian group. In Cast Lead alone, it killed more Palestinian civilians than the total number of Israelis killed during the second intifada.

This dastardly terrorist attack must be avenged with a major assault on the West Bank. Terror must be responded to.
