IDF reservist killed in gunbattles in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza
Five other soldiers hurt in West Bank and Gaza, one seriously; Hamas gunman killed in Khan Yunis clashes.
Israel Defense Forces troops clashed with Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on Monday, leaving one soldier dead and five more wounded. At least one Hamas gunman was also killed in the clashes.
IDF reservist First Sergeant Major Ehud Efrati, 34, of Beit Yehoshua, was killed early Monday in a gunbattle with Hamas forces in the southern Gaza Strip area of Khan Yunis. Two other soldiers were lightly wounded in the clashes.
A Hamas gunman was shot dead during the gunbattle in Khan Yunis, Palestinian officials said. The gunman was named as Mohammed Abu-Tahoon, 22. The IDF said forces in the town shot two gunmen but did not give details of their condition.
Another IDF soldier suffered moderate wounds when a piece of shrapnel struck him in the neck during a gunbattle with Palestinian militants in the West Bank city of Nablus. He was evacuated to the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva for treatment.
Two other IDF soldiers were wounded Monday, one of them seriously, during a battle with militants in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun.
IDF tanks and helicopters shelled the northern Gaza Strip on Monday, killing one gunman and wounding at least 10 other people, hospital officials said. The IDF confirmed that its forces were fighting Palestinian gunmen in Beit Hanun, but did not elaborate.
Meanwhile, IDF troops arrested 20 wanted Palestinian militants throughout the West Bank overnight Monday.
Two soldiers from the IDF's Golani Brigade were lightly wounded on Friday during clashes with Hamas forces in the northern Gaza Strip. During the clashes, IDF troops killed Hamas militant, Yusef al-Walida.
Also Friday, four militants were killed in three separate clashes with Israel Defense Forces troops in the Gaza Strip.
Seven Qassam rockets struck the western Negev on Friday. No injuries were caused, but one rocket struck a textile factory in Sderot, causing a fire.
