IDF patrol kills 2 Palestinian gunmen in West Bank skirmish

Troops operating in Nablus kill militants in shootout; 7 wanted militants arrested in West Bank overnight.

By Reuters and Haaretz Service

A Palestinian militant group reported Tuesday that Israel Defense Forces troops had killed two Palestinian gunmen during a raid in the West Bank.

Israel Radio reported that a Golani infantry patrol operating in the Nablus Kasbah encountered several groups of gunmen and gunfights erupted as a result.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, part of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction, announced the deaths over loudspeakers in the city of Nablus, a militant stronghold in which Israeli security forces often mount operations to detain wanted men.

Security forces later identified the gunmen as Fatah-linked activists who were involved in shooting attacks and in laying explosive devices against IDF forces.

A local hospital reported it had received the bodies of two Palestinians killed in the incident.

No soldiers were hurt in the skirmish and the force continued to operate in Nablus after the incident.

The radio said also that IDF forces arrested seven wanted Palestinian militants overnight in the West Bank.

Clickfool skipped over the part of the article that said that Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade announced the death of its own members. Israel didn't announce the deaths. No mention by the Brigades of innocent civilians. Now I suppose the Martyrs Brigade is part of the Mossad plot to cast unarmed civilians as gunmen. I'm beginning to suspect that Clicky makes his outlandish claims just so we'll talk about him, and not about what the terrorists are actually doing. Nice tactic. Can't resist it.

Haaretz is a great paper, much more balanced than others in Israel, but how about a little more care with biased langauge? In a recent story about settlers planning to use a Hebron building as a memorial for IDF soldiers you used the terms: "...IDF *troops* killed in the area during *fighting* with Islamic Jihad militants.." However in this story, when the subjects are dead Palestinians it is a "skirmish" and the fighters are "gunmen." Assigning words like 'fighting' and 'troops' to IDF implies some sort of greater legitimacy or noble cause, where as 'skirmish' and 'gunmen' imply the opposite - barefoot, chaotic and irrational. As un-kosher as it may sound, and even though these movements aren't recognized as organized and legitimately representative of Palestinian discontent in Israel's political arena, they should be in its press. If the fourth estate perpetuates biased views, it becomes one of the other three.

He plead guilty to spying on British and Americans. He will serve his time in an Australian prison. They will take into account his time served. I believe that is part of his plea agreement. I know you will be happy to hear the little Muslim converted radical got justice after all.

Your military certainly can use some help. Even more so in the light of the latest NAVEL incident with 15 of your sailorboys being captured. I recall after our brilliant "blitzkrieg" VICTORY in the SIX day War in June 67 your people offered us 3 Generals; Electric, Motors & Foods in exchange for one of ours, General Moshe Dayan....just to "keep an eye" on things for you in Ireland!!!

When the "legitimately well armed adversarial" armies of Syria, Egypt and Jordan attempted to destroy Israel in June 1967, Israel defended herself. As a result, Syria, Egypt and Jordan lost the Golan Heights, Sinai, and the West Bank respectively to the "Cream Puffs". The "legitimately well armed adversarial" armies of Syria and Egypt attacked the "Cream Puffs" again in 1973. Israel won handily again then, and in every major battle since. Sadly, perhaps England's military could learn a thing or two from the Israelis.

It seems that every time the Mossad murders innocent Palestinians, the Israeli press is obliged to preface it with "armed Palestinians" or "Palestinian gunmen/terrorists". Heaven forbid that the Israelis would target innocents in efforts to solidify its land grab, and terrorize the Palestinian population. Israeli soldiers are so very heroic when facing an unarmed civilian population. They have proven to be nothing but cream puffs when faced with a legitimately well armed adversary.
