IDF denies reports it attacked northern Gaza

Palestinians say three militants killed in IAF strike on Strip; Gaza rocket hits Israel for fifth consecutive day.

By Haaretz Service Tags: Gaza rockets Gaza Israel news

The Israel Defense Forces denied Palestinian reports Monday that it killed three militants in a missile attack on the northern Gaza Strip.

Also Monday, a Qassam rocket fired by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip struck the Western Negev, for the fifth consecutive day. There were no casualties or damages reported in the incident.

On Sunday, the Israel Air Force confirmed that its assault killed three Islamic Jihad men posed at a launching ground in the coastal territory.

The IAF strike on Sunday came hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed a "powerful response" to recent rocket and mortar shell attacks from the coastal territory.

The strike targeted a cell as its members, which included a senior Jihad field commander, were launching rockets at Israel.

Four mortar shells were also fired at Israel from Gaza on Sunday, but they exploded on the Palestinian side of the border.

Addressing an increase of rocket fire into Israel from Gaza, Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Monday advised Gaza's Hamas rulers to "watch their step, and not to cry crocodile tears if they force [Israel] to take action."

The Palestinian people are victims of Israeli aggression, expansion, and occupation. As such, the Palestinian people have just cause for resistance. Israel, aided by American weapons and policies, can continue to kill Palestinian people by the hundreds and thousands, but Israel cannot kill the just cause of the Palestinian people. Israel can only add to the just cause they seek to eradicate.

What's this nonsense about giving excuses to Israelies to "to oppress Pals on the WB, avoid serious peace talks, strangle the Gaza economy and possibly attack Gaza again, killing hundreds of innocent Gazans." These rockets and murder squads, targeting Isralies, pre-dated any Israeli "RESPONSE" to the aggresive behaviour of Pals. Your reading in excuse but if you follow the time lines its much more credible to view it as a response. Even the occupation is a response to a uniltateral, unprovoked, attempt on the part of the Pals and their allies to liquidate Israel. And well before that is a long history of oppression of Jews and denial to them of the right to worship in their holiest site. The Pals even targeted the Jews of Europe by volunteering to serve with Hitler as his Arab brigade. Yah, this is "unfortunate", yah this hurts the Pals themselves but an awful lot of them aren't innocent. Even those that don't directly serve Hamas, or other terror groups, "knowingly" voted for Hamas.

As I understand 3 more militants were killed by IAF fire Monday evening. As Barak stated the Israeli government will not sit back and allow mortars to be fired without immediate response. It does not matter if the mortars cause no harm...it only means the Israeli populace has been lucky. Palestinian militants have every right to fight and the IDF has the same right to fight back. The difference is that the Palestinians can easily win their state once they decide to offer a hand of peace. Too bad their leadership ....Hamas ....is too obstinate to agree.

Why is it that only Jews are attacked in the media and bullied internationally, for defending their people?? Show me one country that has the same level of restraint as Israel. As an Arab, I condemn Hamas`s for its continued terror attacks that is also putting the lives of Palestinian civilians in danger.

For those who think that an Israeli response is inappropriate because the rockets, all 5 days of them did not yet kill, please have Hamas redirect them to the US and see the response. Remember, the Christmas Day bomber did not kill anyone either. Do you recall the response? Even Obama who prefers negotiating with terrorist countries had a stern look on his face. Israel wants another war and wants to wreck even more war crimes in Gaza. If they do, perhaps this will be the straw that breaks the camels back and they and their government of occupation will be personae non grata around the world and their military leaders and collaborating politicians will really be subject to arrest for war crimes in any EU country.

#7, Joe - Goldstone report still condemns rockets
    • Don Boston
    • 11.01.10
    • 22:34

Please read a report before you gripe about it. Goldstone stated unequivocally that the rockets are war crimes. This is as applicable today as when the report was released. The report never suggested that Israel had no right to defend itself; quite the contrary. What it did say is that Israel must not intentionally or recklessly and indiscriminantly kill civilians. Nor may it use prohibited weapons such as white phosphorus - particularly against UN compounds, civilian areas and refuges. The report found that Israel went far beyond defense, deliberately attacking and terrorizing the civilian population for electing Hamas years ago. This is no more acceptable than Pals attacking Israeli civilians for electing Netanyahu.

Now, all Don Boston has to figure out is that the Arabs in the region have been attacking the Jews in the region all the way back to 1920. The reason the Pals are, "oppressed," is because they have been attacking Jews steadily, even though Jews started kicking their butts in 1948. I'm waiting for the next light to go off in your head about Arabs initiating the violence since 1920.

The rockets stopped because Hamas did not want them fired, not because Cast Lead reduced their ability to fire them. This means that the Cast Lead strategy is, as Arafat once said in a different context, caduc! The prisoner exchange is stuck, Egypt's iron wall will make life for ordinary Gazans even more difficult. Time for a political diversion. A courageous leader would offer to lift the siege and lay down a set of conditions. But Israel attaches more importance to not to be seen talking to Hamas. The easiest way to diffuse anger is not to bomb but to talk.
