Why is this big news ? everyone knows this is very common in the Israeli military and especially amongst government officials.

When I was in the Israeli army in the early seventies nearly every senior officer had an eighteen year old soldier girl in his jeep. Moshe Dayan was a legendary predator of his soldier's wives and General Yitzik Mordecai turned it into an art form. In fact Tel Nof was known as "The Brothel". Now the President is up for indictment and the Justice Minister is in the dock. Such is life.

Stop being paranoid. Your sense of second class citizenship is entirely self fulfilling. The article does not indicate the colonel is not jewish, to any outsider reading it the assumption would be made that he was in fact jewish.

when is israel and the west going to learn that putting superiors and subordinates in the position of supervising or being subordinate to others of the same sex in military situations only creates fertile ground for these types of abuses? in no way is this a defense for the colonel - if he is guilty, even 6 years is not enough. but at the same time we must acknowledge the human condition and create fences for ourselves - particularly in military environments

Let he who hasn't wished he was in a position of authority cast the first stone. Kennedy, Johnson & many others have attained prominence in this field. Poor Katsav seems to have gotten caught, or else the plaintiff's were looking for either revenge or compensation of services performed. If convicted, Sharia law should be applied to the offending part. No sword necessary, a Mohel's knife will suffice. All others who have done likewise, take a number and stand in line, you're next.

Rape is the most cowardly crime a man can commit against a women. In Italy rape is no longer punishable with a jail sentence,you mereley get a police record,as you can immagine rapes have increased. For most rape victims,it is worse than death,they have to live with it for the rest of their lives.

This Colonel's behavior is a blemish on the IDF. His ethnicity would not be valid if Israel's enemy did not use it to slander Jews. However his name his Arabic and he is a Druse. Regardless of Ethnicity his behavior is vile na and he should be punished severely. There is no room for this ANYWHERE in any Army or in any circumstance. Violence against women must end world wide or humanity will never advance. I hope they throw the book at him.

Okay, six years (could be longer but it will have to do), busted down to private, to be expected. If he is not to be thrown out the army then what they should also do is once he has finished his six years make him continue to serve out his time in the army as a private. Under female corporals and sergeants!

You're insulting me, Yonatan. I think rape, by anyone of any religion, is one of the filthiest crimes on the planet. Rape is about the abuse of power, and it destroys lives.

Finally, justice has taken its course. The officer's ethnic background is irrelevant, and all responses referring to it detract from the crime committed. I sincerely hope that this ruling will encourage other women to step forward and not be trampled on as this young was. I find it disturbing that many of the other charges were dropped and that the rapist does not start serving his sentence for another month, leaving the victim "jailed" in her home with fear.
