IDF arrests Palestinian youth with 3 bombs, thwarting T.A. attack

IDF arrests Palestinian youth carrying three bombs at W. Bank checkpoint; bombs intended for T.A. attack.

By The Associated Press and Mijal Grinberg, Yuval Azoulay Haaretz Service Tags: Gaza rockets Gaza Palestinians

The Israel Defense Forces thwarted a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv on Sunday, arresting a Palestinian youth who was carrying three explosive devices at the Beit Iba checkpoint on the outskirts of Nablus.

The youth was supposed to transfer the bombs to individuals inside Israel, whose job it was to assemble them so they could be used for a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv.

Border Police sappers carried out a controlled detonation of the bombs, which were connected to one another with electric wires.

Earlier Sunday, a Qassam rocket struck an open area near a kibbutz in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council on Sunday morning.

There was no damage or injuries in the attack. There was no immediate claim of responsibility from Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip.

Also Sunday, Palestinian militants fired four mortar shells at Kibbutz Kerem Shalom near southern Gaza. The mortars, which struck near the kibbutz, caused no damage or injuries.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told the cabinet that Israel would not relent in its pursuit of Palestinian militants. "This ongoing, relentless activity will continue and will be carried out without hesitation," said Olmert. "All those who are involved in terror activities and all those who send terrorists and all those who command terrorists, will be hit. We will reach them in every place."

Over the weekend Gaza militants fired 15 mortar shells at Israeli targets along the border with Gaza. 10 of them struck on Saturday near Kerem Shalom. A mortar shell hit the kibbutz on Friday, causing very light damage and bursting a water pipe.

IDF troops killed a 16-year-old Palestinian near the Gaza-Israel border on Saturday, according to a Palestinian health official. The IDF said soldiers spotted several Palestinians approaching the border in a suspicious manner, fired shots in the air and then toward the group.

On Thursday, the IDF killed 10 Palestinian militants in a series of clashes in the Gaza Strip, including six who died in what the IDF said was an attempt to kidnap an Israeli soldier.

Not only does the Israel Defense Force defend the citizens of Israel from a constant onslaught of vicious acts of terror, it also allows for Palestinian children to be righted of their wrongs and live a childhood where they're not forced or brainwashed to detonate themselves for a cause that will not take them very far! Silvienne, Please remember the IDF often creates facts on the ground to force the Israelis into accepting a war enviroment or as a cover for their govern-ment's expansionist policies. Be mindful of this. I believe it accounts for many of their clashes with Palestinian militants.( Shameful isn't it?) But Palestinian blood is not water & people will not accept their violence and place in the Middle East anymore. Hence it will come back to haunt them in one way or another. Dutch

He was fortunate he wasn't shot, he could well have been, justifiably so...When he carried the bombs his sole intent was to kill and injure as many innocent people as possible...Maybe not by his own hand, however, he would have been an accomplice, before during and after the terroristic acts...Now, he's a guest of the Israeli Prison Services...Jail are crowded in Pennsylvania, they do manage to squeeze in a few more...So it will be with him, space will be found. You say that almost everyone here is attacking you for your valid opinion. I should have said, all the zionist posters here. This will always happen. In other threads I've had the same thing, so have all the pro-Palestinian posters. You may have noticed that Hannah and Johnboy (two pro-Pal posters) have left for a while...sometimes it is very hurtful. One truly awful person said yesterday in another thread that I was "handing out candy during 9/11" Now, I can see that as just a stupid comment, but at the time, I was very upset. I live forty miles from New York, and lost two friends in 9/11. Two young people I knew through work, who didn't deserve to die, anymore than the rest of the 3,000 dead. And because I support Palestinian rights and am critical of Israeli occupation, that person actually wrote such a poisonous comment. I would not say something like that to my worst enemy. Anyway, as Hannah and Lakshmi say - keep posting! Your posts are good and sensible. Regards

No, if he was caught with a bomb, he should join the other Palestinians in an Israeli jail (which you say are full to capacity). I have no problem with that course of action. What I do have a problem with would be shooting him dead. Let him go to jail now he's been caught.

"A 15-year-old Palestinian stood by the inspection station and then tried to pass through without being noticed," Faraj, who has been manning the checkpoint for the past two months, told Ynet. "A friend who was securing me spotted him and asked that he place his belongings on the table so that we could check them. The teen placed a black bag on the table and I asked him in Arabic to open it. In response he pushed the bag in my direction, so that I would open it. Another example of the unbearable restrictions on free movement imposed on the legitimate population by the zionist authorities. They had no right to hinder this youth, right next to Nablus, far from what even the zionists consider their own territory. The youth was engaged in the most noble of revolutionary activities, to liberate his people and his territory - in this case, greater Jaffo. Thanks to Amira Hass and other Haaretz journalists for speaking up courageosly against such acts of arbitrary and savage interference into the freedom of Palestinians to travel on their roads, to school, hospital, jobs, loved ones, or in this case, in their quest for freedom.
