IAF strikes Gaza tunnels after two Qassams hit Negev
No casualties in rocket attack on west Negev; Palestinians shoot at IDF troops along Gaza security fence.
By Haaretz Service Tags: Israel news Gaza Palestinians IDFThe Israel Air Force struck smuggling tunnels along the Gaza-Egypt border early Wednesday, a few hours after Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired two Qassam rockets into the western Negev.
The strike was in response to the rocket fire and shots fired by Gaza militants at Israel Defense Forces soldiers along the border fence, Israel Radio reported.
The rocket attacks caused neither caused casualties nor property damage, according to Army Radio. The first reportedly struck in the Eshkol region, and the second hit an open field north of Gaza.
Earlier in the day, Palestinians opened fire on IDF soldiers along the security fence near central Gaza, Army Radio said. In this incident too, no one was reportedly wounded.
Tuesday's cross-border attacks came as the total number of security incidents along Israel's border with Gaza increased in September, especially the number of attempted infiltrations into Israel and light-weapons fire at IDF soldiers and at workers on the security fence.
Sources in the army say that the increase is small and does not reflect a change in the policy of Hamas, which still wants continued quiet following the blow it received last January in Israel's 3-week offensive, Operation Cast Lead.
The incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday were the latest breaches of a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas that ended the hostilities.

instead of selecting a few every time a rocket falls in Israel? These are the same limp tactics Barak was using under Olmert. Nothing has really changed ! It's still retreat and defeat in measured increments.
How unGodly to hear how the IDF hit " a deadly blow to Hamas" in its criminal assault on their besieged civilian population and civil society earlier this year. And what a spectacle still to see and hear how the Israelis cheered on their mass murder & mass destruction of Gaza. Well, it that doesn't contain elements from Nero's insanity during the burning of Rome I am not sure what does. Hence my advise to the UN Human Rights Commission don't waste your time and the world's by suggesting Israel set up a probe and hold their officials and soldiers accountable when we all know most Israelis drink from the same glass & gloat at the spilling of Palestinian blood. What a sinful army representing a sinful people. I can't imagine how God's ever sealed their slates clean during the atonement. Unless , the Devil himself took his place. Dutch
And why is a militant a terrorist? You would not speak of terrorists in Beirut in Gaza is not much different.
It took us 7-8 years before we really 'responded' to the Palestinians' indiscriminate rocket-fire on our southern towns and settlements. If our Intelligence knows for sure about the existence of tunnels between Sinai and Gaza - then why on earth do we need to wait for Hamas to fire rockets at us, before we destroy them?? Those tunnels, used primarily for illegally smuggling in means of warfare, are legitimate military targets! If it was 'legal' for Hamas to bring weapons into Gaza, then they would not need recourse to underground tunnels?? The absolute same applies to truck convoys of weapons being smuggled all the time from Syria to Hizbollah. Or is Israel engaged in some 'fair cricket' game - allowing the terrorists to arm to the teeth, so that in the next confrontation (possibly sparked by a conflict with Iran) - they will be able to wreak the maximum possible harm to Israel's civilian population???
Maybe Goldstone is too preoccupied with his current investigation into Australian genocide of the Aboriginals......
Don't blame Israel if your people get killed. Don't kill, don't try to kill if you don't want to be killed.
Firing rockets like the Kassam to non-militay position gives them the status of militants?
Sign a letter with known pro Israel activists then offer to investigate.? Or are you too busy investigating the murders of Iranian demonstrators by the Basij.?
