IAF kills senior militant in air strike in Gaza Strip
Identified as Mubarak al-Hasanat, 37, of Popular Resistance Committees, a senior official of Hamas-led gov't.
By Avi Issacharoff, News Agencies and Amos Harel Tags: Hamas Palestinians IDFMissile-firing Israel Air Force aircraft attacked a car carrying gunmen in the central Gaza refugee camp of Nuseirat on Tuesday, and Palestinian sources said a senior member of the militant Popular Resistance Committees, who is also an official of the Hamas-led government, was killed in the attack.
The IDF Spokesman's Office said the men in the car were members of a crew which launched rockets into Israel. Several hours after the air strike, a Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip - the third fired on Tuesday - hit a residential building in Sderot. Several people were treated for shock, and damage was caused to the building.
The Palestinian sources identified the dead man as Mubarak al-Hasanat, 37, who they said was a senior official in the Hamas administration's Interior Ministry and the deputy commander of the Popular Resistance Committees, a loose alliance of militants from various factions involved in rocket attacks.
Witnesses said a missile destroyed the car in the attack, which took place on a coastal road in Hamas-run Gaza.
The two rockets fired earlier on Tuesday struck near open areas adjacent to western Negev kibbutzim, causing no damage or injuries. Eight mortars were also fired from inside Gaza, and struck near the Israel-Gaza border fence. The IDF said Tuesday morning that 15 Qassam rockets had been fired at Israel in the previous 24 hours.
The Tuesday air strike attack occurred a few hours after Hamas warned that abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit may suffer in retaliation for the death of a Palestinian prisoner Monday in a Ketziot Prison riot. The group's military wing said in a statement it would "not stand idle before the attacks on the prisoners and has painful options for the enemy regarding the case of Shalit and other issues." It did not elaborate.
About 1,000 prisoners rioted before dawn Monday at Ketziot Prison in the south, in response to a massive search for concealed weapons that wardens were conducting at the time. One prisoner was mortally injured by the wardens' crowd dispersal equipment.
Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in June after street battles with its rival Fatah. Hamas heads the government in Gaza, while Fatah's Palestinian Authority leads a parallel government in the West Bank.
Also on Tuesday, two Islamic Jihad militants were killed by Israel Defense Forces fire during a raid in the West Bank city of Jenin. Israel Radio reported that an IDF officer was lightly wounded in the fighting. The two were killed in a Jenin gun battle that erupted when they attempted to escape from a house that had been surrounded by troops from the elite Duvdevan undercover unit in the Sabah el-Kheir neighborhood.
One of the two killed was 43-year-old Khaled Reik, a senior leader in the military wing of Islamic Jihad in the northern West Bank. He was believed to have taken part in the planning of several terrorist attacks, including a failed shooting attack outside Tul Karm in July. The second person was named as Mahmoud Jawabreh, Reik's assistant.

about Lakshmi not supplying any sources or links. At least when I don't have any sources or links, I don't make them up! I just say I don't have them... That "religionofpeace" website is a horror...
Just wanted to make certain--What you gave was the Ha'Aretz page Lakshmi put his post on--I had already seen it--It never had any links to where he got his fictional details to support his allegations--I TOLD YOU, he wouldn't supply his sources, they're inside his cranium, he makes up numbers to suit any particular post--- This is the post, which I read and responded to: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/913409.html
I am talking about the website called "religionofpeace" which you sent me twice and which I responded to in this thread: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/913409.html I remember you asking Lakshmi to back up his claims, but I wasn't involved in that, it was Lakshmi himself...we were talking about the religionofpeace (!) website, and I replied in the above thread...!!
You're driving me nutty---Are you talking about the link I promised to send you, which I did twice, or the link you were supposed to send me, substantiating what lakshmi was claiming and which I never received---If you sent the latter, send it again, I still haven't found it and don't expect to---Lakshmi NEVER backs up his so-called "Statistics"--Either way, let's clear this up, like NOW!!!
...from where you posted it in another thread...what an awful website that is...I replied to you there about it...
The Palestinian's had attempted to assassinate Olmert when he visited Jericho in August---The assassin's were were to be from the PA guard that was to secure his safety---
Just in case you missed it the other times it was sent--- http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/
Although Paul and I both support the Palestinians, I have to agree with your post quoted below... "Did their stories include the fact that those in the Ghetto weren`t attacking those on the outside"
"Israel really brings hope to the region. Israel is the only country in the Middle East that allows religious freedom. Even though it is the tiniest country in the region, it is not afraid to allow Muslims to have mosques to pray in; it is not afraid to allow Christians all these freedoms. It is really a credit to Judaism that it doesn't have the possessiveness Islam has. You know, it's amazing, with all the land the Muslims have, and all the wealth from oil, and all the armies, that no Arab country is secure in its existence. Why else would 1.2 billion Muslims feel threatened by five million Jews? It says a lot. And I've learned that the fear and hate are by design - of Islam's religious educators, its political leadership and its intellectuals. Hatred for Israel is part of how the Arab world operates. They need an enemy. Because there is so much turmoil inside the Muslim world and no one can really name the reason. Why do we have so much turmoil? Why do we have so much anger?
Both camps have an overwhelming majority of the narrowminded p-gs. Why can we not work on positive ideas for the two societies supposed to live in peace next to each other? Especially, the people, who live far from the ME, should feed the hope and aspiration of the suffering Israelis and Palestinians. The non residents should refrain from inciting these two bleeding societies. Where is the human empathy and dignity?
Or am I missing the point, and Israel HAS located where Shalit is kept, but can't rescue him without risking his life? Is the Israeli government sure targetting this terrorist won't endanger Gilad Shalit's life? Is Hamas so convinced he is a valuable bargaining chip?
Israelis are use to fighting under equipped fighters anyways
Why is the question, why would Israel do that?
Build a few prisons for Hamas prisoners on the outskirts of a few of the Israeli border towns.
For Iran and Syria
"The IDF Spokesman's Office said the men in the car were members of a crew which launched rockets into Israel" Always the same old story...the IDF puts out the usual statement...they were terrorists, they'd fired Kassams, they wore suicide belts, they threw rocks, they looked like terrorists...
As far as you are concerned, no terrorist should be killed because they are civilians. What's your interest in keeping those thugs alive? It is plain you are not their target. There must be a reason for this.
It will constitute a cruel and unusual punishment for Paul who would have needed to scream his butt off typing another 8 posts. Besides, there will be no space left to post for the rest of us (thanks to Haaretz generousity and humanism).
I would have preferred that both were left without life and transported in a hearse to their final destination---Candy vendors will make out just fine--People will be passing sweets around in celebration of the terror acts and demise---Better luck next time---
Did their stories include the fact that those in the Ghetto weren't attacking those on the outside..?--If they didn't include that fact, they were remiss in their story telling and you should get a refund---Or, could it be they were outside the walls, contributing to the misery of those inside---
U.S.A. General Ralph Peter wrote in the "Wall Street Journal". 25 July 2002 this article "Civilian Casualties..." "... if they (palestinians) use their neighbors as shields or to hide their military it is the terrorists who are to blame should civilins die under international laws. ... The civilian deaths may be lamentable, but they were also justifable. ...When civilians allow terrorists to use them, the civilians become a legitimate military target."
It is unacceptable that a Senior Terrorist be allowed to reach such a ripe old age of 37.
The Hague Convention of 1907 states; Article 1; "the laws ,rights and duties of war apply not only to armies, but also to militias..." they must .."have fixed distinctive emblems recognizable at a distance" .. must "carry arms openly" and "conduct their operations in accordence with the laws and customs of war." THE GENEVA CONVENTION OF 1947 states: "the presence or movement of the civilian population ... shall not be used to render certain ...areas immune from military operations.. in order to shield, favor or impede military operations" (if they do like Palestinians do its a war crime)... therefore This not an Isreali war crime but a Palestinian war crime since they try to sheild military objectives from attack. Another war crime by Palestinians is wearing and Isreal uniform to name one of many... read "World War II" at http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Camp/7624/wwII.htm. Paul your full of Crap boy from a former US Military officer.
How times have changed! Not only do jews have an airforce to incinerate those who would kill them, but every time they do so, I also get to hear the furious gnashing of powerless anti-Semites' teeth!!
I predicted such events will happen days or weeks before the conference. You just know Zionists are itching to have images of dead Jews as the conference begins to muddle things. Nothing like psy-operations before the conference begins Mossad style. It never fails, a sick and twisted bunch rule Zion. They simply couldn't deal with the quiet in recent months - and had to provoke the Palestinians with mafioso style hits. Now when residents in Sderot, who have enjoyed quiet in recent months, wake up to qassams on their rooftops, they only have their IDF to blame.
The master liar Olmert and the Gov't must be getting desperate about the prospect of having to make real concessions at the Bush peace conference.
Someone please explain to me: 1) If Gaza is in a total blockade (or should be), why are terrorists driving around in gas-guzzling SUVs? There should be no gas in Gaza, except for running ambulances and hospital power generators. All unmarked vehicles (and all vehicles close to the border) should be fired upon by the IDF. 2) If quassams are such poorly-designed weapons with virtually no aiming capabilities, why haven't even one of them hit Ketziot Prison? I suggest restricting Hamas to an area where if they shoot a quassam, it will land right on the heads of their brothers. Although, maybe the prison is too far from Gaza. In that case, it should be moved closer!
Why would your parents tell you stories of the Warsaw Ghetto and what relevance does it have to a terrorist war criminal being eliminated? Your kind of bs contributes nothing except demonstrating your ignorance.
By your logic, in WWII the nazis and the resistance were equal.
you would avoid riots like this one.
I wish the wounded officer a speedy and complete recovery.
They have been left without the car. They will now have to walk loaded with the rockets to the launching sites.:)
Good strike. Keep up the good work.
Killing a terrorist who has murdered so many civilians (which for some reason u arent concerned about...why is that exactly?!?! hmmm) is not a violation of any convention...its protecting your own people from the terrorists u support
later
A Radical Extremist Religious state [Israel] has murdered more civilians today.
When my parents tell me stories about the Warsaw Ghetto, I am reminded of how Israel treats Arabs, and more specifically; How Israel treats those they occupy.
You act like a fascist state, Israel.
Same Same, no?
Attacking a civilian area with a military force is a War Crime according to the Geneva Conventions, to which Israel is signatory too. Kudos iAF for another successful War Crime against civilians
Good job IAF. Get rid of all Hamas Militants as Haaretz calls them. Even tho they are really Terrorist.
Missle-firing Israeli aircraft attacked a car === of course should read "missile-firing.." The rockets struck near in open areas == should be "near" or "in" both not both outside Tul Karm in July. he second killed was named === again should be "..The second killed.. Is somebody at Haaretz munching on letteras and spitting them out again?
Israel has no choice but to chip away at the terrorist infrastructure (which is their human capital). It's amazing how Israel can eliminate these threats without usually harming civilians. No other armed force can do this quite as well as the IAF. Congratulations!
I down and out, the second survived---Better luck next time--
