By Tomer Zarchin Tags: Israel newsThe mayor of Bat Yam paid his wife a salary of NIS 430,000 for running her husband's election campaign during last year's municipal poll, state comptroller Micah Lindenstrauss wrote in a report which was released on Wednesday.
The comptroller found numerous instances of financial irregularities and mismanagement during the municipal elections.
Lindenstrauss cited a memorandum which stated that Dorit Lahiani, the wife of Bat Yam mayor Shlomi Lahiani, would receive a monthly salary of NIS 150,000 from the ruling party in the city council.
She would also be eligible for a "success bonus" of NIS 280,000 if her husband's party would do well in the elections, according to the memo.
"This expense, aside from the problematic nature inherent in offering incentive bonuses based on election results, is significantly high and deviates from the customary expense for services provided during an election campaign for municipal authorities," the comptroller wrote.
