Hezbollah drone brought down over Galilee held 30 kg of explosives

IDF: Travel restrictions south of Litani still in place; Israel to maintain air and sea blockade on south Lebanon.

By Amos Harel, Eli Ashkenazi, Yoav Stern and Agencies

An unmanned drone launched by Hezbollah and shot down over northern Israel was carrying more than 30 kilograms of explosives, police said Monday.

The drone, which was brought down by an Israel Air Force jet in the Western Galilee on Monday morning, was located after long searches of the area.

This is the third time since the conflict began that Hezbollah has attempted to use drones inside Israeli airspace. The IDF shot down another Hezbollah drone a week ago off the coast of Haifa.

On Sunday, the IDF said it had thwarted a major attack when it shot down two Iranian-made drones it suspects were laden with explosives heading toward Israel. One of the drones was shot down over Kibbutz Cabri, in the Western Galilee. The other drone was downed over the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said Monday restrictions on the movement of traffic in south Lebanon remain in place "for now," despite a United Nations-brokered cease-fire.

The army said traffic restrictions south of the Litani River had not been lifted, even though thousands of Lebanese refugees reportedly were jamming bombed-out roads to return to their homes. Imposing the restrictions last week, Israel warned it would consider any movement on the roads to be a legitimate Hezbollah target.

The IDF will maintain their air and sea blockade on Lebanon despite the cease-fire, military sources were quoted as saying Monday.

Army Radio, quoting IDF officials, said the blockade will continue until "Beirut formulates an effective mechanism, which will block transfer of weaponry to south Lebanon.

"The air and sea closure will continue until a mechanism is in place to oversee and stop weapons smuggling," another source told Reuters.

Dear Hassan, it is obvious that you have been waiting for decadces to call anything a "victory for Arabs". Unless looking at this situation from arabic stand point, the Hezbollah and the Arabs have lost many of their own, and have lost a huge portion of their country, and u call it "victory" ? As late Menachem Begin told Arafat once "if u call this victory, I wish Arabs such a victory every day of your lives".

So what if they are? Hezbollah still has not agreed with the Lebanonese Government to disarm, which in my opinion is the whole reason the Israelis have called off the onslaught of the terrorists in the first place. When Hezbollah disarms, then the UN cease fire will be officially started, not before.

It is hardly logic to say that Israel kills civillians and it is disgusting, yet to counter claim that the disgustingness of it makes people want to be disgusting .. Only Arab logic can do that! BTW .. It is only Arab logic that can claim that Jews want to conquer the world, yet they are of a religion that actively prevents people from joining .. I take pleasure in the fact that the only way that Arabs can hate me is by making up lies about me .. I must be THAT nice, that you have no choice .. I will sleep well in that knowledge x

I am certainly not an explosive expert, but doesn't 30 kilograms of explosives sound like a pretty low concentration? A gram, I thought, was equal in mass weight to a cubic centimeter of water. A thousand grams is not exactly a mindboggling amount. Take that time 30 is not exactly a threat to western civilization. What can a 30 kilogram blow up? The answer to that question would give us a better picture.

You are totally correct .. This is not a victory for us .. We do not claim it to be either .. In fairness, we are exactly where we should have been 6 years ago .. and in a nember of years I imagine we will be excatly where we were 4 weeks ago .. A cowardly and immoral choice .. both are a matter of your opinion .. but an opinion that I hope will get you off your high horse and do something to prevent .. because if it comes to the same point again .. IT WILL AGAIN BE YOUR FAULT FOR STANDING BY AND ALLOWING TERRORISTS TO BUILD UP ARMS ON OUR BORDER .. We will continue to defend ourslelves in the same way we have for 6 thousand years .. It works for us .. As you so rightly say, it is far from ideal, but understand it well .. becasue only you can prevent it .. I can only react to it.

    • 20:42

Ali should look out of his window in Beirut and conratulate himself on his fine victory. If he still has a window. The Heroes of the Islamic Resistance have descended to such a level that their idea of victory is the ability to kill some Israelis; any Israelis. By this token, Hamas have scored many victories, but, guess what, Israel is still there, 58 years old and intact, with the highest lving standards, educational achievements, healthcare etc., in the middle east, which even its Arab citizens enjoy. Mr Nasrallah is a fine leader, one in a long line of Arab heroes who have destroyed Israel...like Nasser, Saddam Hussein, Arafat. Except that, none of them did and Israel is still there. One day, if they give up their pipe dream, they may be able to live in peace. Meantime, enjoy your victory.

If you stand behind your children and try to kill my children, than it is you, hizbollah, who is responsible for the death of these children. It was more important for hizbollah to inflict any damage they could on israeli's than care for the well-being of thier own people. Despite the numerous rockets launched into israel, lebanon in turn was set back 30 years and their own people sufferred miserably. When will you people realize...WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE! live in cooperation with us, benefit through trade and together we can even help eachother out politically and economically. The arab world is just to bitter about continually loosing to just let it go AND LOOK TOWARDS WHATS REALLY IMPORTANT...THE FUTURE!You want to try again? go for it, i say bring it. Well, my friends, the more you fool yourself, the harder it will be to fall from the height of your dreams back down to Earth. The Arabs will probably decide again soon that _this_, finally, is the time to "resolve the problem of Israel." Because they simply don't learn... I say, bring it on!

Which is why Israel should have no qualms in keeping the territories won in 1967 and pushing out all the Palestinians. Which is why Palestinians in "refugee camps" should be taken in and cared for by their Arab brothers who refuse to let them live decently, even after these same Arab brothers forced a losing war on them. Which is why the Arab world should stop complaining about Israel's legitimate actions against terror. Because the losers should not decide, right? Don't you agree?

Israel cant claim victory either.. it has achieved none of its declared objectives: disarming hizbollah, unconditional release of abducted soldiers, and the protection of the security of the Israeli towns In addition the image of Israel and specially the IDF has been ruined, they proved that killing children and destructing infrastructure is the only solution they can adopt (a coward and immoral choice). On the ground, the IDF have lost its most important asset: The invincibility.. If you consider that a victory for israel than you have my congrats..

Does the IDF really believe that it can destroy Hezbollah under the cover of a ceasefire, claiming that such actions are defensive? And does it really think that Hezbollah will just let the IDF destroy them? Olmert should read the Analysis by Zvi Bar'el, which is immensely insightful and the best advice he can get. Nor can Israel go on blockading ports and air. This is a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and offensive. Increasing the abuse to pretend that Israel is in control, does not make a non-sensical war victorious. Nor can Israel go on landgrab. Instead, it has to leave, as fast as it can, or it risks to isolate itself permanently in the world. One cannot accuse people who stand up against war crime of terrorism or anti-semitism. The shameful facts that Israel's war was long planned and offensive are leaking out.

Blockade is a very aggresive measure which does not allow fishermen to get food, that is not cesation of hostilities. Are the IDF going to shoot small boats if they try to go out and fish. OK, that is pretty ofensive
