Hezbollah chief: Armed struggle is best way to end occupation
Nasrallah's comments come amid criticism in Lebanon of Hezbollah's refusal to disarm.
By Jack Khoury and Agencies Tags: Israel newsHezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah asserted on Monday that the use of violence was the most effective way to end Israel's occupation of Arab lands, amid criticism in Lebanon of his militant organization's refusal to disarm.
"The history of the Arab-Israeli conflict proves that armed struggle and military resistance is the best way of ending the occupation," he told journalists in south Beirut via a video feed.
The Hezbollah leader presented Hezbollah's political manifesto during the press conference, which the Iran-backed group held after a series of discussions on key issues by its leadership over recent weeks.
Nasrallah added: "The method of negotiations has proven that the Zionist entity becomes more boastful and more belligerent, and that it has no intention of reaching an accord."
He also claimed that the influence of the United States in the Middle East was diminishing, and thus weakening its ally Israel.
"We are amid historical transformations that signal the retreat of the U.S. role and the demise of the Hebrew State," Nasrallah said.
"The most dangerous aspect of the U.S. logic is that they think they own the world and are entitled to dominate it, based on superiority in several domains."
The new manifesto drops reference to an Islamic republic in Lebanon, which has a substantial Christian population, confirming changes to Hezbollah thinking about the need to respect Lebanon's diversity.
Nasrallah said at the news conference that it was time the group introduced pragmatic changes without dropping its commitment to an Islamist ideology tied to the clerical establishment in Iran.
"People evolve. The whole world changed over the past 24 years. Lebanon changed. The world order changed," he said via a video link.
His comments came after Lebanese news outlets reported that the commanders of Hezbollah's military wing have leveled blistering criticism at the group's civilian leadership, amid fears of Israel launching a fresh offensive in Lebanon.

Re: "so come on, let`s get it on!" It is always revolting to hear people cheer for war while they sit safely parked on the other side of the world. Very unevolved.
nasrallah, one among the Buffoons of the muslim world, allah's reject, is all in favor for another round; as long as others do his bidding. Meanwhile, all he can do, is enlarge his rat-hole, and harangue the masses with his embonpoint splashed on his brand new xtra large TV screen
Mordern "Arab" societies are not integrated by any means. Anyone not like themselves is completely prevented from any expression. Only mosques are allowed, churches and synagogues are not. Women have no vote. No opposition parties except Islamic. In Israel, Arabs and women vote, Arabs have mosques, Christians have churches. Arab societies integrated? How?
Absolutely dead on: armed struggle has brought nothing but disaster to the Palestinians and the Lebanese. The brilliant victory of Hamas in Operation Cast Lead was just fantastic - not a single Hezbollah fighter crossed the border into Israel. Standing atop their destroyed buildings and burying over 1000 dead, Hamas cried "victory". Good for them. Hezbollah too, had a total victory over Israel in the last war. They successfully managed to lure 25,000 Israeli troops into Lebanon with not a single Hezbollah fighter crossing into Israel - except for the initia illegal cross border attack to kill and kidnap Israeli soldiers. The more than 1000 Lebanese dead and the billions of dollars of damage to Lebanon were simply collateral damage in the brilliant victory of getting to kick thousands of Israeli troops out of Lebanon. Again.
First, the pan-Arab rallying cry is mute, the great Arab enemy Iran promoting an Arab movement against Israel is purely fictional propaganda. Second, the Arab nationalist renaissance movement has long since failed to inspire unity amongst the diverse people of the middle east. Largely because modern Middle Easterners and Near Asians have reclaimed their lost cultural identities that was stricken from their history during Islamic conquest and Arabization of indigenous Turkic, Phoenician, Syrian, Persian, and Judean cultures to name a few. Even in its most unified the so-called Arab nations were always fractioned and in-fighting, causing more harm to themselves in the long term than their collective enemies. It is a false banner and belligerent sentimental manipulation of modern society, offensive to the new generations of Arab speaking people who are integrated and have since shed their cultural identities to a mythological age that never existed.
This term "occupation" is a pile of B.S. It's been made up by the PLO and it is a false accusation against Israel. Do we really have to go back to the days of Christ to remind the Palestinians and the Muslim nations that the land of Israel belonged to the Jewish people long long before they were ever there. Nevermind the borderlines of the 6 day war. If they want to backdate things then lets keep going. If we go back far enough they will see the Jews were there first. Someone else occupied the Jews land for some 2500 years and God gave it back to them. And man thinhs he is going to take it away? Fools! Barak Obama needs a wake up kick in the behind for using that term "occupation" in one of his speeches. Whose side is he on anyway? These fools are messing with Almighty God and they ought to be very careful. Time is running out! Prophecy is being fullfilled.
is best way to deal with Hezbollah. This is how the British ended the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857 -- real fast.
Lebanon. I remember when Lebanon was the best Arab country in the Middle East, and then the Christians began to leave. Lebanon's loss has been Montreal's gain!
No wonder the Sunnis call you snakes and perverted heretics. No Israeli has spent the last 5 years of his life underground in Israel for fear. Why does Nasrallah not want to go the heaven ? He knows that every one of 72 Shiite virgins have gonorreah ? Yeah man ! Israel lost every time. They got their nieghbour hoods bombed out of existence in Lebanon too. Even the Mahdi says so. Only he says it from a hole deeper than the one Nasrallah lives in.
What can we say of the Shiites, a people who celebrate the murderer of sleeping 5 year old girl as a Mujahid Hero ? Will you accept that Hezbollahs victories have always been against unarmed unsuspecting civilians and never against armed and prepared men ? Shiite values of heroism. No wonder the Sunnis call you snakes and heretics. In the face of armed men your heroic Mujahid hide under the skirts of old women and among children. The 72 virgins are for the idiots eh ? Will your Mahdis values be any better than Kuntars ? Just curious.
Yes, the occupation of Lebanon by Hezbolah and Iran.
The Sheikh speaks the truth. Only absolute violence will end the evil occupation. Keeping in mind that : 1. Any "victory" of any jihadi on earth till date is against unarmed unsuspecting civilians and sleeping 5 year old girls. 2. Cast Lead indicates that Israel has remembered how to win wars. 3. Hopefully the next round will be lead by Generals like Ashkenazi. We can accurately that : to end the occupation, Hezbollah or Hamas must hit Tel Aviv with at leat 100 Grads. Israel will hit back and hard. The UN perverts will not matter. Only Israel will matter. That will be the end of the Shiite snakes and their illegitimate children in Gaza. Sum Total = End of the occupation in the Middle East.
israel should never underestimates nassralla,he is a man who keeps his words, majority of arabs and muslims respets him,and israel needs a leader like him
Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, has always kept his word. The israeli aggression against lebanon only ended with the persistant hizballah attacks. Hizballah is not going anywhere. For those who dream of disarming Hizballah they have another thing coming. Until there is a viable Palestinian state according to the 67 boarders and Israel ceases to threaten the region with it's annoying threats. Hizballah will a pin in the eye.
If same filthy language you're using, which violates haaretz.com's as well as all others' publishing rules, were used in a comment by another to insult a Jew or an Israeli leader, haaretz.com would never publish that comment, and I know that for sure, coz my comment wasn't posted once due to an even milder word describing an Israeli leader. The thing itself speaks of unethical and double standards journalism, which Haaretz conducts!
There is no part of Lebanon that is "occupied" by Israel. According to the UN , Sheba Farms is a piece of land in dispute between Lebanon and Syria. Therefore Nasrallah is the leader of the march against Israel in the name of Syria and the Palestinians. Yet when he makes his move on Israel , the counter assault will be on Lebanon. The Lebanese will suffer again for their leader and their Arab kin... or rather their Arab pawns.
The arabs have used terrorism since israels creation and conditions have only worsened for the Palestinians. Funny that Israel can remain peaceful with Egypt and Jordan? Terrorism is a business! Hezbollah and Nasrallah need to prevent peace at all costs to keep their wallets and bellies Phat. With peace they're out of business, of course they proclaim that terror is the answer. Nasrallah wants to keep his job!
RE:Lebanon won : really??? Then why was Siniora crying in front of western media????
"The method of negotiations has proven that the Zionist entity becomes more boastful and more belligerent, and that it has no intention of reaching an accord" This is indeed a classic description of "Bibi"...
that 70% of all statistics are made up? Also, Hezbollah is a LEBANESE group. Not syrian, or palestinian. Therefore, they do not resist israeli occupation of syria or palestine with force.
"...Nasrallah asserted...that the use of violence was the most effective way to end Israel's occupation of Arab lands, amid criticism in Lebanon of his militant organization's refusal to disarm." Criticism in Lebanon? That's hardly surprising because the majority of Lebanese do not want another destructive war resulting in nothing gained except horrible suffering like they experienced in 2006. The Lebanese people for the most part do not war - Iran does. That speaks loudly as to where Nasrallah's allegiance lies.
"We are amid historical transformations that signal the retreat of the U.S. role and the demise of the Hebrew State." Just because Obowma is an apologist for terrorists doesn't change the Big Lie. Nasrallah's rhetoric is predictable in light of the leftist president and his limited influence. Obama does not represent the majority, moreover he underestimates the power, resolve and ability of the West, of which the USA is only a part.
Hezbollah would do anything to push the Israelis into an allout war with the palistinians. They want to use them as a political pawn in their game against the Israelis caring less how many Pal's are killed. The problem is, the Palistinians can't understand how they are being used.
"Last time Israel fought Hezbollah, Israel spent so little on the war " May be you should check you info israel used in lebanon war more weapons and Bombs then in all of her combined historical wars and you lost and Lebanon won :)good luck in your next war you need it even though we southe lebanese dont believe in luck :0
The aggression against Israel in 48 and 67 is the reason for their occupation today.
As Israel doesn't occupy Lebanon, Lebanon is linking its fate to what amounts to Hezbollah's declaration of war against Israel--not a war of "resistance" but voluntary violence against a neighboring state. Lebanon has a very short memory.
They are highly educated people who relaizes their rights and do understand the civilized and peaceful language of communication. Only through mutual understanding and a similar way of comunication may goals be achieved PEACFULLY.
What has armed struggle yielded the Arab nations in the middle east? only more lost territory. Fact is the only Arab state that gained was Egypt, which made peace, not war with Israel.
armed struggle has been behind every successful and failed attempts of liberation and independence, including that of Israel.
I don't think Lebanon would get their occupied land if it chose to negotiation Israelis, while Nasrallah did. Its an imposed reality by consecutive Israeli governments!
Last time Israel fought Hezbollah, Israel spent so little on the war that the boys in the front were complaining that they didn't even have enough water. If Nazrallah was so stupid as to start another war, Israel would no doubt unload everything they had on them, the second time. So basically, that would be the end of Hezbollah, but a probably a lot of civilians as well. Nasrallah is a dick.
is nasrallah out to lunch or what! ha! history in FACT proves that armed struggle has achieved nothing. All it's done is prove to enlightened normal people what an evil menace militant islam is and to anti semites it's given them joy to see jews killed...but overall, it's done nothing for the palestinians nor for the lebanese. I say, bring it on nassy boy...we're ready and waiting..next time, it's all of lebanon who will pay the price and a much higher one at that..so come on, let's get it on!
Israel is willing to exchange 1000 for 1 and you think they are not willing to reach an agreement ? Have I read you right ?
If we take all the land Israel gained beyond the 67 border (even though we know Hezbollah wants all of Israel destroyed, not just 67 border) the fact is this: Lebanon - Israel control of parts of S.Lebanon Gaza/West bank Golan Sinai Between the Israeli withdrawal from Sinai and parts of the West bank (under Oslo and Hebron agreements), Israeli withdrawals from over 95% of the land it has gained since 67 has been a result of peace deals. The Golan it still has and parts of the west bank it still has. So Hezbollahs gains of "forcing" Israel to withdraw has been about 1% of the land. So all those deaths amounted to a 1% Israeli withdrawal, and peace deals to 95%+ leaving a few % left. I think the facts speak for themselves. Anyone who listens to Nasrallah will have better luck learning about peace and the truth from a piece of plastic.
"The method of negotiations has proven that the Zionist entity becomes more boastful and more belligerent, and that it has no intention of reaching an accord." Find anything Netanyahu has said that is a fraction this truthful.
