Hamas rejects Red Cross request to see abducted soldier Gilad Shalit
Group says visit could lead Israel to soldier; Hamas denies Haaretz report of new Israeli offer on Shalit deal.
By Avi Issacharoff, Jack Khoury and Amos Harel Tags: Gilad Shalit Hamas IDFA senior Hamas official in the Gaza Strip, Osama Al-Mazini, on Thursday turned down a request by the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit, who captured in a cross-border raid in June 2006.
Al-Mazini said that allowing a visit might lead Israel to Shalit. The request was made Wednesday by the director-general of the Red Cross, Angelo Gnaedinger, during a visit to Gaza.
Gnaedinger said Wednesday that Red Cross representatives might soon be allowed to visit Shalit - something Hamas has hitherto not allowed. He made the announcement following a meeting with Hamas' Gaza leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Also Thursday, Hamas denied that it had received a new Israeli offer aimed at securing Shalit's release.
Al-Mazini, who is in charge of prisoners' affairs for Hamas, was responding to a Haaretz report published earlier in the day, according to which Israel recently sent Hamas a new proposal Shalit's release.
However, no details of the proposal are known. In addition, European officials from more than one country recently began mediating between Israel and Hamas over Shalit, a senior Hamas official said Wednesday. He declined to specify which countries, but said that he was not referring to Norway, which recently announced that it was involved in the issue.
The official added that the chief European mediator, whom he declined to name, is working according to the same guidelines that a German intelligence official is using, in his efforts to mediate between Israel and Hezbollah over the two soldiers that Hezbollah kidnapped last summer.
Egypt, the official added, is also still playing an important role in the negotiations, since it is well-versed in all the details of the talks to date. However, the one-time chief mediator has recently lowered its profile.

You like to pump people for answers, however, when we query you, it's like pulling teeth.... I can't deny or affirm that there are 400 children in Israeli jail, neither can you..Those that are there are for valid legal reasons...Trying to smuggle in and detonate homicide bombs on their persons, (I've got links to the photos & videos), common thieves, various terror acts...
I'm not sure that the study makes it clear whether or not young American Jews are alienated from the governmental policies of the State of Israel as opposed to being alienated from loving the Land of Israel
400 plus minors in israeli prisons?Did you check the citation I gave the other day?Free Marwan Barghouti.org,has the first entry as Campaign to Free Marwan Barghouti.Click on it & you'll come to the page with his picture and an index.Click on Prisoners. That page will give you the details.Reports from Amnesty International,B'Tselem,Defense for Children International. 20.Margie of Tel A. your ad hominem attacks make no sense. In any case,is this some explanation, justification or apology for your post the other day?
Lakshmi You are always surprised that I ascribe less than optimum motives to you. It is clear from your wholesale condemnation of Israel and your unquestioning acceptance of the far from proven fact that our army is always immoral and our citizens have less than moral motives, such as is expressed in your posting here in #5 that you yourself have no high moral standards. Apart from this I find no compassion or warmth in your character. You also clearly have no academic integrity, but that's a different issue, borne out by the way you use quotations incorrectly and plagiarise without blushing. All this might explain my surprise when you quoted from the marvellous Gerard Manley Hopkins the other day, from a poem dedicated, bizarrely for you one must admit, 'to Christ our Lord'.
Children?..You must be referring to the "Child Soldiers" and terrorists that are being held... You have a penchant for calling anyone under the age of 80 a "child"...The buggers carried bomb material, wore homicide bomb belts, stole and any other misdeed they could come up with... Hardly children, terrorists, thieves is a far better description... In the U.S., they're put in facilities according to their age group and the type of crime... Those "children" were put where they can't do any more crimes...Safely under lock and key... The other prisoners, terrorists, thieves and rapists...Barghouti has five murder convictions...They were all either charged & tried or awaiting trial...Shalit is being held without trial or access to legal counsell or a visit by a neutral authority, such as the IRC
and writing like you're nuts. Are you Hamas? IJ? AAMB? You expect Israel to treat terrorists humanely. Then Hamas should treat Israelis humanely. That soldier was not harming Palestinians.
Hamas is a totalitarian terror group. Unfortunately, it is also possible that Gilad is no longer alive.
shot down by paranoid killers. The same killers who refused to let Red Cross symbol be used ....except....when they could use the ambulances to shuttle weapons.
what isolation means, especially the 400 plus children.I have quote already on other threads(which you would already have seen)about the physical, psychological and sexual abuse they undergo at the hands of their captors, the reason for their incarceration being throwing stones at israeli military vehicles. One only 5 years old,the others about 12(From a Report published by Defense for Children International(Palestine section).
power in the way you tried it in Lebanon! That will be the beginning of the end of israel. So stop talking like a lunatic and ask your government to release the 11,000 Palestinians in israeli jails. The militant groups have threatened to attack the power generators in Ashkelon if water and electricity are cut off!Your idf heroes are no longer any match for any of the resistance fighters, since they spend too much time shooting unarmed teenagers & setting attack dogs on old women, bull dozing their homes etc.And don't forget that a muslim country has nukes also.Given israel's size, one half of one half will do !So forget your crazy ideas and negotiate with your neighbours. They might forget and forgive you for your crimes.Try it.And also try improving your style of writing &speaking. It seems that you zionists become abusive when you have lost an argument.
Let's see. The International Red Cross refuses to allow Magen David Adom full membership - with its symbol, while, of course, recognizing both the Red Cross (Christian) and the Red Crescent (Muslim). And that august organization somehow fails to gain access to Israeli soldiers in captivity for OVER A YEAR! And Hamas refuses to let them see Gilad Shalit. Who is surprised?
Israel & his parents are kept in the dark about Shalit's condition... Turn of the utilities in Gaza, let them sit in the dark without water & fuel... Give them the reality of what it is to be kept isolated.
My heart goes out to his parents, but there is a GOOD chance he's dead. You cannot take these animals word for it he is alive. (they even give animals a bad name).
TO ALLOW THE RED CROSS TO SEE THEM REQUIRES FIRST that the people are human beings. These people are NOT. These are people that put their OWN children in the line of fire, shoot behind their women, throw their own off buildings, and rocket towns and schools. They are barbarians, and you can't expect them to ACT as real PEOPLE do. Even other MAMMALS protect their young. If there is one, they surely are from the devil.
The militants are worried (I guess) that Israel will attempt a raid or a siege if they figure out where Shalit is. Obviously I do think the Red Cross should be allowed to see him - it's something well overdue. In this day and age with technology, why can't they do a web conference at least as a proof of life and condition? It would be better for a rep to see Shalit though obviously
Mazal Tov - the Red Cross finally did something it should have done a year and a half ago! Somehow when other countries' soldiers or civilians are kidnapped, the Red Cross is quick to respond, but not with Israel. I suppose we should be jumping for joy that they at least recognized Magen David Adom!
Enough you sorry little bigot.
And why would they expect us to have respect and concern for the humanitarian concern of their people if they dont care about ours at all?
trators in the Red Cross. Not good for shalit, but then he is at least alive & well and not in Taliban hands. If Hamas says he is alive and well then that is the case. And hopefully next time he won't be playing tag near the border.Unlike the unfortunate Palestinian children who were shot down by the idf thugs!
Hamas is a little more then paranoid and fearful it seems. I honestly thought they called themselves men.
for 20 min. How will that help Israel know where he is permanently?
... of the spirit of generosity, kindness, brotherly love, respect for humanity, love of family and strong principles thta pervade the Qu'ran according to Hamas.
To visit Shalit. "If Israel knows where he is located, they might blow the place up in order to bring about his death and end the whole affair," said a senior official of the terrorist organization. (Source: JPost) Just a few days ago, some contributors to these talkbacks gave the same argument. Are there hamas people here?
