Hamas provides limited proof for sweeping allegation against PA gov't
Hamas procured documents following Gaza takeover in June; Group vows to provide stronger proof later.

Documents presented by Hamas Tuesday failed to prove the Islamic movement's allegations that the Palestinian Authority spied for Western governments and collected sexual photos of Palestinian leaders to be used for blackmail.
Instead, the documents - seized following Hamas' violent takeover of the Gaza Strip in mid-June - indicated no more than minor financial improprieties. But Hamas promised more at a later date.
"Today is light weapons against corruption," said Mahmoud Zahar, Hamas leader and former Palestinian foreign minister. "But the heavy arsenal will be used soon."
Hamas overran Gaza last month in a violent five-day battle against rival Fatah forces. In response, Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah dismissed the Hamas-led unity government and installed one with moderates and Fatah backers, gaining world support and leaving Hamas isolated in Gaza.
Among the documents shown to reporters during a news conference in Gaza City Tuesday were a note to Yasser Arafat warning of a plot to strip the late Palestinian leader of power, as well as papers from Arafat authorizing payments to politicians and private citizens. Neither revelation is considered groundbreaking.
Zahar said Hamas had intercepted a large number of documents, which would be read, filed and eventually brought before Hamas' yet-to-be constructed judicial system.
Some documents would be presented to the media, he said, but those bearing individuals' names or dealing with the moral side of people's lives would not be made public.
Fatah's West Bank spokesman Fahmi al-Zaarer did not deny corruption in the Palestinian government, but doubted the legitimacy of the documents.
"Anyone with a scanner and photocopier can do whatever they want," he said.
Also Tuesday, Hamas gunmen stormed a hospital affiliated with Fatah in Gaza, the hospital's director said.
The hospital is the latest in a series of Fatah institutions to be taken over by Hamas.
Suleiman Jubala, director of the Fatah Medical Center for Rehabilitation, said gunmen ordered him at gunpoint to leave the building and hand over medical documents. "They have officially taken over the hospital," Jubala said.
The hospital was founded by the wife of Fatah strongman Mohammed Dahlan, a bitter enemy of Hamas.

hamas' popularity has not waned at all.Even the recent poll in An Najan university is misleading. The exact result were published by Maan News. The population polled:42% were fatah supporters. The remainder supported dialogue between Hamas & fatah, called for Hamas to be included in the PLO institutions etc.All visitors to Gaza have given Hamas a clean bill of health. The latest was the Spanish delegation.Since realpolitik is also important, note that a Hamas delegation has been invited to Moscow(Maan News,Aug.1,2007)And after his Moscow visit abbas himself has been saying that international mediation between fatah & Hamas is acceptable.Clickfool can speak for himself but I personally support Hamas because I see it as a genuine Resistance Movement, the first since the corrupt heady days of the PLO.
documentation soon after the takeover,as I recall, from Preventive Security Building. There must be some good reason they did not publish it all immediately. As I said in my post above they are classifying the material carefully.
that the "hard evidence" exists? seems to me that so far they've got none! especially, in regards to their accusations of intelligence gathering and blackmail; which is the crux of their claims. corruption? fatah officials have already said that there was some. and hate to be the one to bust your little "hamas bubble", but if you think it doesn't exist on their end, you're more gullible than you think. but the real reason for this post of mine is to ask you if you really "think" that hamas is the best thing for the palestinians; who themselves tend to be more secular and definitely not prone to "sharia"? hamas bought a popularity which has since waned considerably. do you really think that a government that will enforce the law of sharia upon the palestinians and lead them in an endless conflict that they have no chance of winning will actually "benefit" them? they were elected while riding the waves of sharon's agressive and devastating incursions into the territories; but gaining a majority in the legislature, which was due more to political shrewdness than popularity, their popularity has waned more than just a little. this leads to one final curiousity and a need to satisfy it in my mind; are you a muslim fundamentalist, or are you indeed anti-semitic? just wondering... have a nice day.
May be Hamas is not corrupt as Fatah but it is as incompetent as Fatah. It was elected on a platform of cleaning the corruption of Fatah, yet it never tackled the problem and never opened and published any findings. It lost credibility with people like me because it did not address the issues of mismanamgent of Fatah. Moreover, Hamas simply failed to make a good case for its take over of the PA corrupt security organizations and should have immediatly after taking over made its case public and with documents. Sami Zuhri is another Saahaf. It did a lousy job after taking over. Yes it did bring law and order but it failed to make a good case. If I was Hamas I will publish everthing on the internet so that the entire world can see the corruption of Arafat, Fatah and the PLO. They robbed the country blind and they failed to liberate.
Does anyone doubt that the only real reason that Hamas won the 2006 elections was Fatah's history of corruption? Hamas is trying to keep riding this wave any way it knows how. Without this wave behind them they're a clear dead-end group that represents a minority of the Palestinians. Their campaign to keep smearing Fatah is their lifeblood; and their futile efforts to convince the world that nothing is their fault is their own Achilles' heel. Myth-making to prove one's infallibility may itself be a form of corruption. Raiding hospitals in pathetic attempts to incriminate their rivals, Hamas is both showing its true colors and its true weakness.
aparently not.
definitely going to emerge.Shortly after the takeover they showed foreign journalists videos of young Hamas men being beaten to death by fatah security.
"...it`s not Mossad..." I wouldn't be so sure of that ;)
Clickfool is yet again using any kind of excuse to chastise the USA and Israel. Somehow, his liberal line of reasoning can't fathom that people make decisions for themselves. For the 539th time: it's not Mossad, it's not Israel, it's not America! Get a life.
Former US intelligence officials confirmed that the U.S. gave Fatah-controlled services sophisticated intelligence-gathering equipment, including eavesdropping technology. This kind of technology, along with the knowledge it yields, is broadly known in intelligence circles as 'Sigint,' which is shorthand for 'signals intelligence.' It can include eavesdropping equipment, devices used for intercepting radio, microwave and telephone communications and telemetry technology that allows the user to pinpoint the location of someone holding a communication device, such as a cellphone. Tenet gave it to fatah under Dahlan. Now Hamas has it and can share it with Syria & Hezbollah. This is evidence of the absurdity of giving any Arab terrorist group such confidential and classified equipment.Either they use it against Israel and the US or a Hamas type group obtains it and uses it. Tenet was a disaster for the US Apparently he was causing problems everywhere in addition to being asleep on 9/11.
""Today is light weapons against corruption," said Mahmoud Zahar, Hamas leader and former Palestinian foreign minister. "But the heavy arsenal will be used soon."" Rampant corruption is the Achilles Heel of Fatah. Oh dear...America and Israel seem to have forgotten this. We'll see how the Palestinian people react when hard evidence of the bentness Of Israel's Uncle Tom (and there's a lot of it) comes out.
