Haifa Court Extends Remand for Guard Suspected of Killing Friend

Ilya Erdenyev told police he accidentally shot his friend after the two got drunk and played with his gun.

A Haifa court on Saturday extended the remand by six days for a 23-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his friend on Friday in Kiryat Haim, near Haifa.

Police said the suspect, Ilya Erdenyev, who works as a security guard, told them he accidentally shot his friend after the two got drunk and began playing a game with his gun.

Police received a phone call around 5:30 P.M., with the caller saying, "I shot my friend, send an ambulance urgently."

Police arrived on the scene and found the body of a young man in the apartment and the alleged shooter close by.

The victim, also 23 and from Kiryat Bialik, leaves behind a pregnant wife and two young daughters.
