Israel's Air Force shot down an unmanned aircraft from Lebanon over the sea opposite the northern Israeli coastal city of Haifa on Thursday afternoon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was flying in an IAF helicopter at the time of the incident, and was forced to land.

The State Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday released previously embargoed materials from the investigation into the death of alleged Mossad agent Ben Zygier, also known as Prisoner X. The new details reveal that Zygier was suicidal prior to his arrest and that he was paid an upsetting visit by his wife and child the day he died. It also showed he wasn't sufficiently monitored by prison guards. Nevertheless, prison staff won't be indicted, the Prosecutor's Office said.

The Jerusalem District Court ruled Thursday that women praying at the Western Wall with prayer shawls and tefillin does not constitute a violation of “local custom” or a provocation, and therefore, no justification exists for detaining and interrogating women who engage in these practices.

Former ambassador Ze’ev Ben-Aryeh turned against the prosecution on Thursday at the trial of former Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, and denied in his testimony that he had ever asked Lieberman to give him a job. Lieberman has been charged with fraud and breach of trust .

The U.S. Administration plans to convene a four way Middle East peace summit in which U.S. President Barack Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan’s King Abdullah will participate. The summit, which seeks to restart the peace talks and herald economic assistance to the Palestinian Authority, is slated to convene in Washington during the month of June, sources said.

The Finance Ministry intends to slash NIS 1.5 billion off the education budget in 2013-2014, a cut that may lead to teachers being fired. The decision, made in the last few days by Finance Minister Yair Lapid and senior treasury officials, will likely be seen as a serious blow to the middle- and lower-income classes.

Shin Bet Security Service personnel can proceed to access emails of tourists landing at Ben-Gurion Airport, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein said Wednesday, choosing not to interfere with the procedure. He noted that such searches “are performed only in exceptional instances, after other relevant incriminating indications are found.”

U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel indicated on Wednesday that he was caught by surprise when Israeli officials publicly revealed their assessment that Syria has used chemical weapons in its civil war. Hagel told reporters that his Israeli counterpart, Moshe Yaalon, did not alert him to the assessment when they met in Tel Aviv on Monday.
