The Israel Defense Forces struck a number of sites in the Gaza Strip on Monday in response to roughly 50 mortar shells and rockets fired toward the western Negev by Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Twelve suspected members of a French Islamist cell linked to a grenade attack on a Jewish shop in Paris and suspected of planning further attacks were still in custody Monday, two days after their arrest.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Monday that the escalating conflict on the Syrian-Turkish border is "extremely dangerous," and made a strong appeal to stop the flow of arms into the region, as the exchange of artillery fire on Sunday marked the fifth consecutive day of attacks between the two nations.

A Hungarian nationalist online radio station called the recent assault on a Jewish community leader in Budapest a “response to general Jewish terrorism.” The radio startion reported the arrest of two men, 20 and 21, last Friday on suspicion that they physically and verbally assaulted the 62-year-old president of the Jewish congregation of the Hungarian capital's South Pest district.

A group of pro-Palestinian activists, also including some Israelis, interrupted a performance of the iconic Israeli group Givatron in Berlin on Thursday, part of an event to raise funds for the Jewish National Fund.  

A troop carrier overturned on a mountain road in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula early Monday, killing at least 19 members of the security forces stationed on the border with Israel, officials said.
