The Israeli military struck an Islamic Jihad militant in the Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian reports, the militant is in a state of clinical death and two others were wounded.

The United States has proposed absolving Israel of any responsibility for the fate of the Palestinian refugees in the forthcoming framework peace agreement, Palestinian officials told Haaretz.

Syrian state media dismissed as "not accurate" a report by news agency Interfax that President Bashar Assad told visiting Russian parliamentarians he has no intention of giving up power and the issue is not up for discussion.

The Justice Ministry's police investigations unit recommends that a criminal investigation be opened into Maj. Gen. Menashe Ariv, head of the force's main investigative command who is suspected of receiving bribes from Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto and associates.

Bank of Israel Governor Karnit Flug has nominated Canadian-born economist Nadine Baudot-Trajtenberg as the central bank's deputy governor. This would be the first time that both the governor and deputy governor of the Bank of Israel are women.

The Israeli postal system could be insolvent by the third quarter of this year, according to a report that was presented to the state-owned postal company's board of directors last week. The company's CEO said they will meet their payment obligations by selling assets.

The ongoing strike by workers from the UN relief agency for refugees is hitting the weakest sector of Palestinian society hard. An UNRWA source warned that "poverty causes radicalism," adding that he wants to "avert a disaster similar to the one in Syria."

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon joined congregants at a New York City synagogue to honor those who perished in the Holocaust, pay tribute to the survivors, and call for collective action to prevent such horror from happening again.
