Grig Davidovitz appointed new editor of Haaretz Web sites

Davidovitz replaces Peter Hirschberg, who has left the Haaretz Group to join the private business sector.

By Haaretz Service

The Haaretz Group on Thursday named Grig Davidovitz as the new editor of the Haaretz Internet department, comprising Haaretz.com and Haaretz.co.il.

He will replace Peter Hirschberg, who has left to join the private business sector.

Davidovitz, 32, has been working at Haaretz since 1999. He has held a number of senior positions, including editor of the features section and, most recently, deputy editor of the news desk.

In the framework of his new position, he will work alongside Gadi Lahav, the editor of the Haaretz Group Web sites.

Davidovitz has a law degree from Tel Aviv University and is a lecturer in the Communications Department at Sapir College.

He will be replaced at the news desk by Nir Hasson, who has until now been the Haaretz legal affairs correspondent.

Haaretz Editor-in-Chief David Landau said Thursday that, "the entire staff is sorry to see Peter Hirschberg go.

"He is credited with many significant achievements in both his current position as Web site editor and in his previous position as editor of the English print edition.

"Grig Davidovitz was the loyal partner of Ronen Zaretzky, head of the news staff, and both pushed the newspaper forward in unprecedented and successful directions. In his new position, Grig will serve as an important bridge between the newspaper and the new media outlets that the Haaretz Group is looking to advance."

Some little improvements the website could use: The cartoon is nearly always missing on the opinion page. Why not put it there? It's there in the PDF version, but two things go wrong there. One is that the sections move around (e.g. opinion not on page 5, but somewhere else) but the titles on the PDF index page aren't changed to reflect it. The other is that once in a while the PDF pages are from a paper other than today's. Pages that refresh themselves automatically. If my internet connection goes down, and I am reading an article, it attempts to refresh itself every so often, and I'm looking at an error message instead of the article that was on my screen before I got up to get a cup of coffee.

Congratulations to Mr Davidovitz I hope that you will keep the website more updated than your predecessor. Often there are items that are many days old, and the weather forecast only seems to update after long periods of time, in spite my sending e-mails to the site

it's true i never had an anti-israel comment not be published, the one time i was censored was for defending israel! (in contrast to jpost, where reverse is true!) my advice is: censor only for obscenities. your paper rules, and talkbacks are a big part of the fun for me. also, being part-german, i like that the paper is obsessed w germany and europe.

Your censors are great and they give me special priveledges to write all the nonsense I write and disturb the natives though I try to do it with humour and good ideas. You really have a great paper no matter what the right wingers say and even though I am not really left,I really try to see each issue the best I can. Haaretz plays a serious part for Israel IS a democracy albeit under duress and Haaretz offer an alternate view and is much more relevant in the Global market than any other publication. I think we all have to come together once the Palestinians decide Israel is a legitimate state and thats why I put the onus on them (I am Amira Hass's nemesis but only up to the half way line!) ANyway good luck Grig...hmmmmm you are gonna need it :-)

Clickfool and his group of haters seem to be on the board all the time, Jews that support historic revisionism also seem to make the board. Jews that say how Oslo was the greatest thing since sliced bread is fine too. A Jew that follows the torah and states the ideas of Religious zionism, is not welcome. Grig, I hope you believe in dialogue and not left wing propaganda. So far your newspaper has little use for facts and a great love for their left wing ideas and propaganda. I hope you change it, although I doubt you will. Tell me can't I get feedback why 50% of my posts are banned even if I follow the guidelines?

I ask for a more lenient policy in free speech on the forums. If you will display palestinian historical revisionism b/c your paper advocates a two state solution then in the same breath can't allow those that deny authenticity of Jewish history and jewish character of the state. There needs to be a reassessment in terms of haaretz moderating talkback with a fair and balanced approach and the interests of free exchange of idea's. I recommend that Haaretz accept the nature of the dialogue but at the same time broeden the spectrum of debate.

I congratulate you on your new appointment and hope that you will help to keep up the high standard of this newspaper. I ahve one small complaint and this appears to be an ongoing problem. The weather information is updated perhaps once a week which in my humble opinion is less than useless!!!
