Gaza rocket hits Israel, despite Hamas moratorium on Qassams
Hamas declared Sat. that militants agreed to halt cross-border rocket fire; no casualties in attack.
By Haaretz Service Tags: Israel newsMilitants in the Gaza Strip fired a Qassam rocket into southern Israel on Monday, despite a recent declaration by Hamas that militant groups in the coastal territory had reached an agreement to halt cross-border rocket fire.
The rocket exploded close to a community in the Sha'ar Hanegev region, causing neither causalities nor property damage.
On Saturday evening, Hamas' interior minister said the militant groups in Gaza had agreed to cease firing rockets into Israel so as to prevent retaliatory attacks.
"We have agreed with the factions that nobody carries out any action involving rockets for now," Fathi Hammad was quoted as saying by the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
But if Israel sent troops to the Hamas-controlled territory, then the militants would have "an open space to respond," Hammad added during a meeting with Gaza journalists, according to the news agency.

"Time to hunker down for the long haul with the Palestinians" I'm sure the Palestinians feel that the last sixty years have been a very long haul indeed....
obviously. How could they keep their words not to fire rockets to prevent Israel attacks if Israel is attacking them for firing rockets a day earlier? Hahahahaha
Israel has broken every treaty it ever signed with regard to the Palestinians.
It appears that the Palestinians are not totally cowed by Cast Lead. It also appears that the attempt by Hamas to use the situation to consolidate control in Gaza has been defeated by Israel's attacks the last four days. It also seems the government's push for another war, often reported by Haaretz authors and contributors, is underway and succeeding. Netanyahu will not pay the casualties necessary to crush Hamas or even Islamic Jihad. The propaganda line is that Cast Lead worked and it is clear that another such massive firepower against civilian targets war will be fought to punish Palestinians and avoid contact with Hamas as Cast Lead did. The problem is that it will leave terrorists in a position to retaliate, if not when Israel savages Lebanon for a second time, when it crowns it's 'victories' by going after Iran. The United States indulged lunatic leaders who started and lost two wars. The cost has been very high. Can Israel afford to incur the same kind of failures?
They claim to honor an agreement and usually violate it on the same day.
Time for Israel to draw up the target list. And, if Israel should bomb a few targets in Gaza, you can bet Goldstone will be on his way.
Time to hunker down for the long haul with the Palestinians. There should be swift retaliation for any attack and no prisoner exchanges except in the context of a full and final settlement.
OK so why is anyone suprised that the word of a terrorist organization is meaningless. They broke every single truce ever called, and then seem to convince the Jihadist supporters that it was Israel who cannot be trusted.
