Gaza militants fire 3 Qassam rockets into southern Israel
Rockets fired continuously throughout week; Israelis warned to prepare for round of fighting.
By Haaretz Service Tags: Gaza rockets Israel newsThree Qassam rockets were fired from the Gaza strip into southern Israel over the weekend.
Two missiles hit open fields in the Sha'ar Hanegev region on Friday evening, while the third exploded in the Eshkol Regional Council territory early Saturday morning.
Israeli media sources report that there was no injuries or damage caused by the rockets.
The Israel Defense Forces launched a series of air strikes overnight Thursday against targets in the Gaza Strip, hours after a Qassam rocket fired from the Strip hit southern Israel.
Three Palestinians were reportedly killed in the strike, including a 15 year-old boy, with two wounded and several others feared trapped inside the ruins, medics said.
On Thursday, a Qassam launched at Israel exploded just south of Ashkelon, causing no casualties or damage. The rocket fire came at the heels of a barrage of mortar shells earlier in the day, with Gaza militants firing at least 10 shells into Israel, and an anti-tank missile being fired at IDF troops patrolling the border with Gaza.
On Wednesday, GOC Southern Command Yoav Galant warned Negev residents that the quiet Israel has recently experienced along the Gaza border may only be temporary, adding that the IDF was prepared to face tensions should they arise.
Galant also urged civilians in the Negev to "prepare themselves for another round of fighting."
Hamas had said it was cracking down on militant groups firing at Israel from the Gaza Strip, but communities in the Negev have been hit with rockets numerous times in the year since the IDF embarked on Operation Cast Lead.
Just last week, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed responsibility for firing two Russian-made Grad missiles from Gaza at southern Israel.
The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) also claimed responsibility for firing four mortar shells at Israeli army vehicles near the border the week before.

"Some Palestinian militants are doing everything they can to help Bibi launch Cast Lead II." Some morons will try to blame Israel even though the decision to fire the rockets lies with the Palestinians. Why isn't Hamas arresting and imprisoning anyone caught firing rockets?
"Noone is saying that the firing of Qassams are right but they certainly do not warrant the excessive use of force by the israeli army that cause horrfic deaths and destruction." Imagine that there won't be ANY horrific death and destruction if they didn't fire rockets. If it's not worth the price, why keep ordering the product? You don't think f15s are warranted? Easy. Don't call them out by firing rockets. There's a direct correlation between rockets and f15s.
I live in Sederot for many years. I was against Cast Lead. Last night I heard the screams of the Sederot children when we heard the rocket warning and then when we heard them fall. I don't know the solutions & the bleeding hearts certainly don't. But to all those who don't live here in Sederot don't you dare say we don't suffer. Children have nightmares, scream, can't study. Palestinian plight is terrible I agree,in a different way. So get all the leaders to sit & talk, not just demand one side but both sides. For all I care lock them in a room witout food until a final solution is signed.
of the Delta airliner either. I would propose that we send the Nigerian back to his parents and tell him to be a good boy next time. What do you think, am I on the right track as you. I so want to be!
Some Palestinian militants are doing everything they can to help Bibi launch Cast Lead II. The government of Israel has been trying to provoke a war for some months. And some fools in Gaza are trying their hardest to help it.
So you think Israel should not strike back if attacked by Palestinian militants? Or are the IDF supposed to wait until Israelis are killed or injured by Palestinian rockets, before they get your kind permission to defend themselves from aggressive military actions?
Your argument makes as much sense as Giuliani made when he argued that 9-11 didn't happen when Bush was President. What would have happened if bug-eyed monsters landed in Poland in 1942, with 2120 technology?
a rusty home made rocket that causes no injury or damage is valued at 3 Palestinian lives. blame Hamas, blame Israel, the price is still the same, human life, innocent children. there is no one to blame, but the only one's to feel the blame are the Gaza civilians.
Noone is saying that the firing of Qassams are right but they certainly do not warrant the excessive use of force by the israeli army that cause horrfic deaths and destruction. What people are saying for sure is that the Blockade is a lot to blame for the current conflict and that all Israel has to do is lift it, stop interfering in Gaza and to learn to differentiate between Hamas militants and innocent people. Whats also worrying is that ordinary Israelis dont have any feelings for ordinary palestinians. They should be using their democratic power to influence their govt on being humane. Thrwing leaflets and telling people to leave their homes before they destroy it to bits isnt really convincing. The silence of the israeli people is why the Israeli govt gets away with such crimes.Their silence is also the most disturbing factor in the conflict.
To be reading some of these negative post that blame you for defending against rocket fire. But on the otherhand they just cannot stand up to the responses that stand up for truth and justice, and thats the rest of us we will always be beside your side because we would not want someome to be shooting rockets into our neighborhoods each day either.
What would you tell in case USA were in ISRAELI shoes umder the rockets from MEXICA?
Did you not read the headline? you cretin! "Gaza militants fire 2 Qassam rockets into southern Israel" If you dont want more dead palestinians, then dont fire rockets into Israel. Is that clear enough for you?
....and you're going to get bitten, which is obviously what they want. Hamas must feel they're not getting enough headlines lately,so they're going to provoke Israel into killing a bunch so they can cry victim to the naive of the world. So predictable....
If you're really concerned for your Gaza friends then convince them to build a life for themselves rather than try to destroy Israelis'. That lofty horse does not become you.
Either they are incredibly bad at aiming missiles at civillians or they are aiming them at....
The sequel could easily be canceled if the savages did not fire missiles/mortars at Israel. Perhaps the savages will get the point after Cast Lead Vl?
any country has to stop at any means acts of agression on its population from a lawless zone as it is obvious the case in gazza. please stop quoting how little israelis are injured, israeli are good in airport security, water manegment and protecting its citizens as well, what would you like to hear 1400 israeli dead against 1400 palestinians dead,no way jose, life in israel and the west is way too precious to contemplate such a casuelty rate in israel.
Oh how I wish someone would save the Palestinian people from their idiotic leaders. My heart aches at the thought of having a repeat performance of Israel's aggression towards people who are being held prisoners on their own land. I wish these militant fanatics would take their qassam rockets and shove them where the sun does not shine! Enough of this madness already for the love of God. Didn't enough children die last year? How many more Palestinian children need to die before the Palestinian leaders wake up to their stinking, rotting reality? What a depressing life this is! They are born into abject poverty and misery only to die a violent death. You both- Fatah, Hamas- pull your heads out of your rear ends and get off your high horses. Stop giving Israel excuses to attack and stop blaming Israel for defending their people. It's about time you stood up and defended the Palestinians and MEAN IT!
And the rockets will end too
gaza militants are playing with fire. They know this, they want Israel to retaliate. The next time (hopefully) there will be nothing left of gaza.
The bastards keep firing missles. Israel hit 'em again and again and again. And I'm a pacifist.
Where I come from (earth), attempted murder carries the exact same penalty as murder. Why? Because it is only fortuitous that the rockets did not harm anyone. The intent to harm is the same. And it is that intent that must be punished. It is quite disingenuous to argue that because no one was harmed, that no crime was committed. To the contrary, even one rocket is enough to justify finishing this off once and for all. The crazies in Gaza must be brought to their knees without any confusion that they lost, they will lose again if they play any more games and they have no hope for a better life unless they agree to complete and unconditional surrender. No country in the world would react to these threats in any other way. Ironic, isn't it? If those nuts just surrender, they will have a better life. But I guess that explains why there is a problem in the first place. The Gazans are nuts !
... so it wants to prove it is still in control, especially before Iron Dome rolls out and makes the Gaza Strip insignificant to the process.
and in the role of neighbor whose unequivocal charter confirms their goal of Israel's destruction.....Hamas. Of course, Hamas and their "leadership" have no role in causing the misery of its citizens who are pretty much being held hostage. Geez, I would love to see the reception, ole peace-loving Hamas leaders would provide for an "activists" march protesting their policies. Now that's real freedom....And Fantasy...since freedom like that just plain ain't allowed!
If that lies in store for the Gaza as you predict it makes you wonder why they fire those missiles at Israel. I wonder what the average Gazan family thinks every time they hear a Qassam being launched at Israel from the paddock neighbouring their house? Maybe you would be standing on the balcony clapping but I'd be gathering up the family and heading for the basement because I would know the response would be coming soon. And I would be cursing Hamas the whole time.
Mark Of course you know everything. While prophespying what it's going to be, why don't you tell us what Israel must do. If you were the PM of Israel what have you done in this situation? The sound of drums are pleasent from a distance. Aby
Its the terrorists who wreak havoc in civilian populations that bring death to Gazans. Stop blaming victims & lay blame where it belongs, the violent groups in Gaza that seek to terrorize Israelies. Israel, in each and every case, has RESPONDED to dangerous artillery and rockets and has not attacked or terrorized Pals in any way that can be considered offensive. Your complaint is with Hamas and the other terror groups in Gaza. Israel is doing absolutely the right thing, though it really should be much tougher. No country & no persons should have to tolerate rockets being shot in areas where they live or travel, irrespective of whether rockets kill or maime them or destroy property (which they have). The rockets are instruments of terror and Nation States have to protect their citizens from those who seek to terrorize them. The homeless children of Gaza have no one to blame but their demented parents and persons like yourself that encourage & support terror.
The intent of the Arabs was to hurt Israel and just because they failed to kill anybody doesn't mean that a sovereign nation can not protect itself. The intent of the Gazans is to kill Jews. You need to grow up and burn those white bedsheets you have in your closet.
Nobody in Israel has been hurt, but 3 Palestinians in Gaza are dead from Israeli missile attacks in the last 3 days. This is the preview of Cast Lead II, the Sequel, Starring Avigdor Lieberman in the role of Tsipsi Livni and Benjamin Netanyahu in the role of Ehud Olmert. Stay tuned for exciting scenes from Cast Lead II, the Sequel with whole new neighborhoods to destroy and an entirely new cast of children to render homeless. Hosni Mubarak will reprise his role as Pharaoh and Ehud Barak will reprise his role, too.
palestinians have only themselves to blame for a cosequences of their aggressive murderous actions.
as opposed to the "settlers" in the Negev ? Only shelling o the Shenkin Str. would cause these eternal cringers to use the word "terrorists"
'Galant also urged civilians in the Negev to "prepare themselves for another round of fighting." ' I'm sure all the armchair warriors want to get set up with beer and pretzels... You really don't fool anyone, you know. Do you even fool yourselves?
