France, Spain condemn Ahmadinejad remarks on Israel's destruction

Spain summons Iranian ambassador to protest comments; French FM says remarks are 'unacceptable.'

By News Agencies and Haaretz Service

France and Spain on Monday issued condemnations of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's latest verbal attack on Israel, in which he said that the world would soon witness the destruction of Israel.

Speaking at a ceremony Sunday to mark the 18th anniversary of the death of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ahmadinejad said that saying a "countdown" has begun that will end with Lebanese and Palestinian militants destroying Israel.

Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos called Ahmadinejad's comments unacceptable. Spain last week hosted talks between Iran and the European Union over Tehran's nuclear program.

"These words need a strong response," Moratinos told Spanish national radio.

"I've asked our [Foreign Ministry] political director to receive the ambassador to express to him our absolute, total rejection of those remarks," Moratinos said.

In France, Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said the president's comments were "unacceptable" and "incompatible" with Tehran's wish to play a major role in the region.

"If these comments were actually made, they are unacceptable. I condemn them with utmost severity," Kouchner said in a statement.

"Such statements are incompatible with the dialogue between cultures and civilizations to which we are attached and with Iran's aspiration to play a role of major importance in the region."

Ahmadinejad's remarks were reminiscent of his comment two years ago that Israel should be "wiped off the map," which triggered outrage in the West.

The Iranian president also said that last summer's war between Israel and Hezbollah showed for the first time that the "hegemony of the occupier regime [Israel]" had collapsed, and the Lebanese nation pushed the button to begin counting the days until the destruction of the Zionist regime, IRNA quoted him as saying.

Israel responded Sunday by asking the international community to condemn Ahmadinejad's comments.

Khamenei defiant on Iran's right to nuclear program

Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Monday that Iran would not beg world powers for its right to develop nuclear technology and has shown it will not retreat from the "field of danger" to protect such rights.

The defiant remarks by the Islamic Republic's highest authority come two days ahead of a summit of the Group of Eight top industrialised nations that is expected to include discussions about the row over Iran's nuclear program.

World powers have demanded Iran halt uranium enrichment, a process Western nations say Tehran is mastering so it can build atomic bombs. Tehran insists its plans have purely civilian goals and has refused to halt the work.

"Do you think the Iranian nation will beg for reaching its nuclear rights so that bullying powers will accept this? ... No, this is not the spirit of a free and independent nation," Khamenei said in a televised speech.

Iran insists it has the right to enrich uranium to make fuel for nuclear power plants under international treaty. Western nations say it needs to convince the world of its peaceful goals before it can enjoy that right.

The United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency says Iran still needs to answer questions about its plans before Tehran's atomic program can be given a clean bill of health.

"The world has learnt from experience that an Iranian will never step back from the field of danger when defending his rights," Khamenei said in remarks to mark the anniversary of the death of Republic founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

The UN Security Council has slapped two rounds of sanctions on Iran since December for failing to halt enrichment. G8 foreign ministers said last week Iran faced further sanctions for failing to stop the sensitive atomic work.

The Thursday talks between Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, who has been representing world powers, failed to break a deadlock in the dispute but they agreed to meet again later this month.

Khamenei accused Iran's "enemy" - 1usually used to refer to the United States - of waging a "psychological war" and seeking to divide Iranians ahead of parliamentary elections in March.

"This next parliamentary election will be another way [to show] the nation's dignity and growth," he said. He also accused "the enemy" of seeking to divide the Islamic world, to which the crowd chanted "Death to America."

...Are you saying the USA agreed to the destruction of Israel? ... Exactly the opposite, the USA don't believe that the real intention of Iran is the destruction of Israel. Only propaganda, and they know exactly that this kind of propaganda won't work. That's why they talk to the Iranians.

"...Iran`s willingness to share nuclear technology with Al Quada..." Both of them are the sworn enemies of each other. If Al Qaeda wants nuclear weapons, most probably they will get that from Pakistan, their traditional allies. Why didn't you mention Pakistan, was that because she is one of your closest allies?. Well, not anymore, after Musharraf signed an aggreement with one of the Taleban tribes in there recently.

in a variety of ways, don't you think that the president of a country should come out and explain what it is that he said. If he did not mean the destruction of Israel as all of us take it, then why does he not come out and repudiate it, explain it, say it was taken out of context, anything to allevaite the fear of Israel. His threats are ongoing, vague or not (anyway you want to take it) at the same time Iran is pursuing an atomic bomb. I did not see Israel worry when India became a nuclear power, or Pakistan. They did not threaten anyone, in any "vague" way. Although I do worry about a coup in Pakistan, something unlikely to happen in India. I don't know how one can look at the Iranian threats as anything but menacing.

Hey,clickfool, let me tell you what some of us Jews know about England and Windsor. In November Pope Benedict sealed the re-unification deal(they plan on telling christians in about 20 years) with the Anglican Church and the Patriarch of the eastern orthodox. Along with some German Jews and liberal Israelis they plan to keep J'lem an international city complete with gay-pride parades. We knew it was coming because Daniel7 tells us that the little horn is of the first horn. The first horn is you,the U.K.(leagueof nations) Your house of Windsor comes from Germany. All the hype about Queen Victoria being descended from Mary and Joseph of Arimethea don't mean squat because the coming leader of Israel is descended from Mary and Joseph(Yeshuas' adoptive father from Judah, Mary is from AAron) Russia is going to ride herd over you and you can probably expect the house of Windsor to follow King louie of France and the Romanovs in the not too distant future.pick a side.

Ahmadinejab made these threatening comments so Bush would have an excuse to place those additional nuclear deterrants in Europe. Do we forget that Pres. Bush one used Amadinejab to make carter look inept and Regan look like more than an actor. As of November Benedict pulls the strings on America and Iran. They will not get away with this dance as far as Vladimer Putin and Russia are concerned.

Well, here he is again, suggesting that the annihilation of Israel began last summer (by his front troops of Hizballah) and it is just a matter of time before the job is done.

SPYGUY.Intel core duo was DESIGNED in Israel.

    • 17:58

"These are the best microprocessors we've ever designed, the best microprocessors we've ever built," Intel's Chief Executive Paul Otellini said. "This is not just incremental change; it's a revolutionary leap." He was talking about Core 2 Duo processor, created in Israel. The Israelis' new chip, named Banias after a river in Galilee, got a break with Intel's push into notebook computers. It hit the market in March 2003 as part of a package called Centrino. Banias anchored three years of 13 percent annual sales growth at Intel from 2003-05. In one 100-day period last year, Intel unveiled more than 40 processors, most based on the Israeli design. Are you saying there will be no more Israeli DESIGNED chips in the future used in the mass market??

    • 17:51

It's not so much a threat by nuclear weapons but AhMADinejad is forcasting a war between Syria and Israel. Last year he was screaming about the destruction of Israel and fire from the sky and Hezbollah was shooting missles. Iranian AhMADinejad doesn't want Iran to be touched so he plays the diplomatic game while sending in other countries that are nothing more then lackys to him. What is needed is the Iranian Nuclear Facilities to be flattened and the Iranian Air Force destroyed. Once this happens their navy can be destroyed at will. If you all remember Saddam was big with his mouth and in the end he never knew what hit him. War is not what I prescribe to but if the choice is take on Iran w/o nuukes or taking them on with nukes the answer is very clear. Enough from this Idiot AhMADinejad.

Iran would leave Israel with no choice but to act in reaction to the Iranian threat. Hillary Clinton had just declared that Iran should be prevented from having nuclear capacity at all costs but diplomacy first? just to remind us that all diplomatic efforts have been going on for about three years now and are actually availing Iran of a perfect veil under which it progresses with its nuclear plans as usual? The reluctance of the world and especially European leaders to act are clearly not motivated by the desire for world peace. Both Iran and Syria are shaking the world with the encouragement of the likes of Russia and China. The free world hides its fears of those two out of control countries and would not barge. The Europeans will stay on the sidelines like they did when Hitler took power and wait for the rescue...

As for AMD CPUs, they are designed in the US and manufactured in Asia. so there is a minuscule chance that Israel had anything to do with the CPU chip in the over 500 million personal systems in the world, most of which are manufactured in China. Note, Intel is in the process of bringing their largest fab on-line in China right now, so Israel will have even less to do with Intel chip design. Another false boast about Israel.

Iran is not a nation that participated in any of the Arab Israeli Wars. Even the hawks in the US are not talking of war against Iran. The more warmongers among them are only talking of limited action. Isarel too is a deep mess and not in a mood to mess with Iran... If it was humiliated by Hizbullah, then can it really face up to the consequences of messing with Iran? Bottom line is that Iran will be nuclear in about 24 months... it has already reached a stage when it cannot be stopped. So, the best advice to Olmert and Co. is to get a genuine peace deal with the Palestinians and accept the genuine offer from the Arab states... after all, it could be ironic that it will the Arabs who will ultimately protect Isarel from Iran. This does not take into account Iran's willingness to share nuclear technology with Al Quada or any other radicals who will help them achieve their warped goals. Iran is also at the root of most Islamic-sponsored terrorism - either directly or through its proxies. Don't make the mistake of underestimating the U.S. and/or Israel's resolve on this issue.

Ahmadinejad continues to bait Israel and America in particular. It is hard to tell if he is really trying to inspire an attack upon Iran or if he is simply enjoying the impotence of his opponents. Either way, he seems to be having a great time and is unlikely to stop anytime soon. I suspect that he wants an attack from Israel. This would have a multiple good outcome for him: (1) Ahmadinejad does not have the support that he would like to have from his countrymen. An Israeli attack would unite the country against Israel. (2) An Israeli attack would give Iran an opportunity to attack Israel in return that could not be criticized by the world community. A well executed return attack would make him extremely popular in the mideast. He would have instant "street cred". (3) An Israeli first strike upon Iran would paint Israel as an aggressor and a warmonger with no interest in negotiations. This would have no effect upon the Israels supporters or haters, but could effect others.

Just one nuclear bomb on Teheran will imediately stop Iran from developing it's own. The Geneva convention doesn't work in all cases. It might work against guerrila attacks, but when such a big and dangerous power promisses to wipe Israel off the map, the threat should be considered and taken much more seriously.

Iranians do not care much about the Palestinian issue, or even the destruction of Israel, they are peace loving people they have respect for all faiths.

    #2's hypocritical "parity" argument

I have never heard the anti-semitic or islamist apologists on talk back use the "parity" argument (what's good for Israel is good for Iran) to promote women's rights, Jewish rights, Gay rights, right to equality of religions. In other words, all these things exist in Israel so of course Iran must have them too. It is only in the instruments of death that you seek "equality." This exposes your hypocritical position. NO one believes you in the West and we will have to fight Iran very soon.

The world should just accept that there's nothing that can be done about Iran's march to nuclear power status without bringing the house down on everyone. Bush can't do a thing about it, and without American clearance (which won't be forthcoming), neither can Israel. That leaves only Israel's other supporters in the UN, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands, and I'm not sure what their plans are right now.

Iran has just as much right to nuclear power as any other country in the world, israel did not seek international approval for their nuclear progroms (WMD) why should iran need approval from anyone to seek the (SAME)right to nuclear power??? With the superpowers being as they are and their constant threats of calling other peoples of the world "axis of evil" it would make any country feel as if they too need the WEAPON to protect their people as well. BUT if nuclear weapons is such a big concern for these super powers then so should they ALL distroy all of them around the world and go back to being peace loving countries and stop trying to BULLY all nations to bow/tow to their whims!!!! But life being as it is the super powers continuely want to be BULLIES. BAN ALL WMD fight the fight as men not whimps from some button pushing computer. OR sit down and talk like a REAL MAN/WOMAN and try to seek PEACE for once!

..The defiant remarks by the Islamic Republic's highest authority... After the meeting between Iranian and American, that kind of statement should no longer being called "the defiant remarks," but a CONFIRMATION remark from Iran. The Iranians are in the upper hands, baby.
