As the former prime minister's health deteriorates, Israel’s media are dusting off their roses of Sharon.

“I am a havatzelet of Sharon, a lily of the valleys,” reads Songs of Songs 2:1. The flower referred to as havatzelet hasharon is generally rendered in English as the “rose of Sharon,” referring to Israel’s Sharon plain, but is considered by some to refer to the fragrant, white sea daffodil that graces Mediterranean shores in late summer.
