Word of the Day / Kolnoa: Where movie magic happens
It took a while for the Hebrew language to coin just the right word for the cinema.
The Hebrew word for movie theater or cinema is kolnoa (kol-no-A). It is a portmanteau of two Hebrew words kol - meaning sound - and noa - meaning movement. But it hasn’t always been the word for that magical place where you can escape for a few hours by entering a fantasy world on screen; it took a while.
