Say it out loud: Erdogan's infamy
The trial soon resumes of a journalist accused of belonging to a group trying to overthrow Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government. When it comes to maintaining freedom of speech, Turkey is among Europe's worst.
The trial of journalist Ahmet Sik is scheduled to resume next week in Istanbul. The 16-month-long ordeal has nothing to do with anything Sik has written; he is being tried for "membership in a secret terrorist organization," Ergenekon, which is suspected of attempting to overthrow the government.
