Lack of shade makes Western Wall visit unbearable for tourists

so.. the western wall is the holiest site to Judaism? not Temple Mount. ? And, as per usual, these "mistakes" are only for export, not in the Hebrew original.

i laughed at the article on the sweaty heat engulfing tourists and worshippers at all times of the year. i laughed because the report did not mention faintings due to heat stroke and the like. over the centuries people have been in that environment as we can discern from the holy bible and nobody had died of heat stroke. God is a master designer.

Living in TLV, the joke is that the most exciting thing that goes on in Jerusalem is talking to a wall.

Why is it only complaints? one comes to the kotel to pray. Was there shade in the time of the Beit Hamikdash? Give thanks that one is able to go to the kotel? Lets hear the Thank Yous!!!!!

I mean the king used for hiding from aircraft in the army - all over the country they are used for shade in children play yards and other places (and there is no halakha problems such as planting trees in a holy place) It is very low-cost but need to be replace once a year - but there are also metal shades, also used in play yards and bus stops

The Plaza has been around for over 40 years now so why has shade suddenly become an issue, whats wrong didn't anybody feel the effects of the sun until now. Whilst its true it would be nice if there was more shade in the plaza itself because its such a small area and its busy anyway there is just nowhere to put any kind of shade most people though I think can live with it. The average person doesn't spend more than about half an hour at the Kotel before they go off to explore the Old City or leave its just the haredi who spend the day there in heavy clothes but they are not the ones complaining about a lack of shade. I wonder what Daphne Leef would consider this a social justice issue?

The whole country suffers from a dearth of shade in public spaces. Anyone been to any of the squares or parks in Tel-Aviv in the summer? Nowhere to even sit and read a book.

Here is my favourite suggestion: restore the Wailing Wall area as it was prior to the Six Days War. Turn it back from a megalomaniac decadent football-yard to its historic dimensions: into a humble, decent, poetic, “romantic” and sacred site which provides privacy, modesty, contemplation and possibility to pray in peace and silence. Turn it swiftly back to the Wailing Wall of our national collective memories, beginning with Yehuda HaLevi and ending with Amos Oz. There is no reason whatsoever to leave it as a barren, ugly mega-touristic site, seldom filled with public or tourists which suggests more decadent taste of the 1967 euphoric (justified) victory than appropriate respect and dignity of the place. Furthermore, visiting people will be provide by shade (if they don’t bring their sombrellos and sun-cream along).

there is a tunnel there, so you can duck inside like the rest of us. Curious that he missed that, eh?

Lack of shade at the kotel is not the only problem. The panhandlers who disturb people while they are praying are just as annoying and make it difficult to enjoy a visit there. When I once reached my hand into my pocket for some change to give someone who waved his fist in front of me, he insisted on getting "paper money."

you poor delicate plants. You are not forced to visit the Kotel, but if you do, respect the religious ceremonies such as Barmitzvahs being celebrated there . Do not push in and displace actual family members around the prayer table in order to take photographs, which was the case at my grandson's Barmitzvah a week ago. In summer the entire country is hotter than what you are accustomed to, so come equipped with sunhat and sunglasses, and remember that you are visitors.

And its holiness is entirely because of its location, the last remaining piece of the Temple, and it is only one small corner of what is the holiest site for Jews, the Temple Mount, Which the Jews only have limited access to. Not only in the Kotel area but with existing and new public benches placed recently throughout the ciity by the City of Jerusalem there is no shade. It is very unpleasant for adultsto sit there and prohibitive for children not to mention the danger of contracting skin cancer over a period of time.

The Scandanavians with fair-skin, who never miss an opportunity to denigrate, defame, debase, or vilify Jews can offer their desultory remarks about the KOTEL..SORRY WE CANT PROVIDE THEM WITH SHADE OR OUTDOOR AIR CONDITIONING The wandering Jews did not complain of the summer heat and I am not surprised that Haaretz would print gratuitous complains of a few malcontents who claim to be Jewish

Give people some shade. It's hot out.

Getting through to these anti-shade rabbis is like talking to a brick wall.
