Jews stay boxed in on British TV

I tried to read the article about British TV....I though "Jewish mother of the year" was a bad programme...I am surprised anyone joined in.

Samuel Pepys diaries from the 1660's contain disdain for Jewish davening at a prayer service. Black Adder from the 1990's contains the same disdain as it mocked the "Jumping Jews of Jerusalem". Same British smugness about their superiority to the "other".

Maybe Israelis should take a lesson from that, rather than advertising their inferiority complex by outing every Jew they feel has some prominence in the world. That's not helpful to a Jewish individual who might want to keep their religion out of public view, given Israel's track record on occupation and land theft.

In the UK, religion plays a very small role in society. Most people have no interest in other people's religion, or lack of it. It doesn't define them. We just don't care. Socially, Jews are assimilated and therefore nobody would notice if a TV character is Jewish, Catholic, Presbyterian or whatever.
