All politics is local - even in Iran
The West assumes the supreme leader makes every decision himself, and since he's guided by ideology and religion, internal politics is of little relevance. That assumption is wrong.
The last year of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's term is turning out to be the most critical year for both him and all Iran. His political sparring with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei began several months ago; on some days it seemed Khamenei intended to deviate from tradition and push Ahmadinejad out of the presidency before his term had ended.
